Rockstar: GTA on Wii "Didn't Feel Natural"

Grand Theft Auto is a series that has spanned many consoles and the new DS GTA title, Chinatown Wars, looks to continue that tradition. However, questions have come up about why Rockstar still hasn't developed a Wii GTA. Even though the console is stereotyped as the "family console", the game would still sell millions.

In the most recent Nintendo Power, there was an interview of Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser and this question came up. The full question and answer:

Question: It seems like a more natural progression for the series to move to Wii rather than the DS. Is there any reason why you didn't take it there first?

Answer: It didn't feel natural to us, I guess. It really was that the DS felt like it had a lot of interesting challenges that would be totally different from what we'd done in the past. The stylus and the chance to use minigames in that way was really interesting and exciting to us, and we thought we could integrate seamlessly between those two modes. And it would be the chance to make something really good on a handheld with our handheld-focused team. That was really why we went that way. We haven't really done any concrete, major thinking about the Wii, one way or another. They're sort of separate issues.

do some major thinking for the ps3 and 360 first please Mr Dan

i didnt hate on GTA4 which seems to be in fashion at the moment, but i do realise it had a plethora of issues, mostly the 'fun factor. '
i hope the next iteration changes.

Yeah but thats kinda harsh on them they where trying to fit a HD game on old ps2 DVD's

So they where taking the same size of disc for San Andreas and fitting all of GTA4 on it so the 2 versions would be even the fun factor would still be alive if they used the whole blu ray for side missions and more ramdom items, people, events, etc

yeh i totally agree with what you're saying. i never really think of it that way, i dont want to be labelled a fanboy, but i guess saying the 360 hindered the game has some truth. the music was lacking, the content was lacking, quite a few things were lacking. i truly hope they take advantage of the ps3 next time round, although i doubt they will.

back to the wii, i guess they could start from scratch, using a simple engine, and making it more of a mayhem game than a serious, gritty game

Graphically, the game would look exactly the same as the 360 version.

"That was really why we went that way. We haven't really done any concrete, major thinking about the Wii, one way or another. "

Then how can you render it "unnatural".
If you actually did some concrete thinking you could get things out of it.

I think Gta4 didn't feel natural. It is a totally different game to what i was used to with san andreas, which is why i sold gta4 and now just play san andreas for my gta fix.
