Digital Foundry has released a video comparing the graphical fidelity and frame-rate of NieR: Automata on the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Some of the differences are quite shocking!

Weird how the Pro version has lower fps than the PS4 version in some segments. That should not be the case at all especially if it's 1080p on the Pro.

Definitely should be optimised better by Platinum.

gangsta_red2996d ago

Maybe it is because it's 1080p on the Pro. This and a few other examples is just another reason an upgrade isn't necessary at this point in time.

Horizon, Resident Evil 7, Nioh, Gravity Rush 2, The Last Guardian, For Honor, Resogun, Diablo III, Battleborn, Xcom 2, Dirt Rally (PSVR), Fallout 4 all recently added quality PSVR support.

Boost mode is on the verge of releasing and it will improve many games that did not receive a Pro patch, like Bloodborne and The Witcher 3.

Upcoming games like Horizon, Days Gone, Spiderman, and God of War are being developed with Pro in mind and should yield even more impressive results. Horizon is said to be the best utilization of the PS4 Pro to date. It's said to look majestic on Pro, and it should only get better from here on. It's also great to be able to stream at a higher quality and have PSVR games run and look better on Pro. PS4 Pro is absolutely worth the upgrade, especially if you plan on playing the newest, best Sony exclusives. If you own PSVR or a 4K tv you really should have a PS4 Pro, but even on a 1080p tv you get the benefits of boost mode, higher framerates, better load times, downsampling, and higher quality streaming.

I find it hilarious how ppl like you downplay and tell others it's not necessary to upgrade to Pro, but then you run a hype train on the Xbox Scorpio.

@iamtylerdurden

You know, I wasn't interested in a PSPro before but after that damn good sales pitch im thinking it's time i get at least 5 for every room in my house.

I had no idea all of those games added PSVR support. For honour in VR must be crazy

Damn, you almost had a sale but then you went and added that bit.

Tyler, could you please show where I'm running this hype train for Scorpio? I'm curious exactly what hype I'm providing for Scorpio.

@Kribwalker

"I had no idea all of those games added PSVR support."

Correction my good man, they added "QUALITY" PSVR support according to Tyler.

I'm so dang pumped to go and scoop up my copy of Horizon Zero Dawn at 9 this evening. It's going to be majestic on my Pro and LG OLED tv.

Indeed, sounds like it's badly optimised overall.

They might want to add an option on the Pro to turn off some graphical features too, or, better, just optimise the crap out of it!

Gazondaily2996d ago

Yeah you can't fault the hardware. The devs need to code for this shit better. No excuse for it to run like that.

super_bruno2996d ago

I don't see any reason to upgrade to the Pro so far.

_-EDMIX-_2996d ago

If you don't have a 4K TV honestly I don't see a reason to

If you're not a person that actually cares about the graphical enhancements there really isn't reason to waste the money on such a thing if you're content with a 1080p resolution.

This is only for the audio and videophiles

starchild2996d ago

I'm generally very happy with the performance of my PS4 Pro, but it's disappointing that some games still have framerate drops or screen tearing. That shouldn't be happening and it's completely on the devs.

If a game is running at 30fps (with occasional drops and screen tears) and 1080p on the standard PS4 there's no reason the PS4 Pro shouldn't be running that same game at a solid 30fps without screen tearing and still achieving a higher resolution.

DevilishSix2995d ago

Yes they were a few segments where the base PS4 had more frames than the Pro and DF was unsure why, but the majority of the gameplay was Pro at 60 frames and the base PS4 hovering between at 40 to 50 frames and that is with the Pro at higher resolution and with anti-aliasing and object motion blur animation not found in the base PS4. So except for a few instances its a clear improvement for the Pro version, regardless of poor coding. Who knows the boost mode may even clear some of this up.

This is going to be a great game. It already has a 9.3 and a 9 for reviews. It has been an unbelievable beginning of the year for PS4 exclusives. One of the best run of games I can recall on any platform. Yakuza, Nioh, RE7 VR, Horizon, Gravity Rush 2, and Nier in just a few months. Can Sony keep up this momentum is the question I would like to know. Guess that won't be answered until E3.

im not sure if they "saved" it, but Taro definitely shook things up with the story telling that hes so infamous for.

especially in times when free to play model was at its peak in gaming.

I never really felt that way, but I really enjoyed NieR: Automata, I made sure to get all the endings.

I’m not sure about that but it was good to have and hope we get more games from Yoko Taro that aren’t mobile
