Shadows of Adam, at its heart, is exactly what the promotional material states: a love letter to the JRPGs of yore. Chock full of 16-bit goodness, this is a game that evokes nostalgia for those who opt to partake in the story. Young adults setting off on a quest to solve a mystery? Check. Vague, if someone ambiguous definitions of good and evil? Yup. An antagonist who is not clearly defined until later in the game? Right-O. So, how does all of it stack up compared to the greats to whom Shadows of Adam is paying homage?

I find it hard to take 'homages to 16-bit JRPGs' too seriously considering how many of them there are out there and how easy they are to make in today's age considering the tools available.

A valid concern. This one happens to nail the "love letter" that they promised in their Kickstarter, so I do recommend it with aplomb. They also were very responsive when I had some issues with the performance, and fixed them within a day. Maybe give it a try (or not), but this one did a great job.
