I don't necessarily agree with the article. If the PS3 / 360 could run GTA V, no reason the Switch couldn't. Sure it may not be as nice as the PS4/XB1 versions, but it's definitely still doable.

ocelot073045d ago

It's not that it's notdoable. It's will it sell on the Switch? What is the point of Rockstar spending millions on bringing it to the switch to not only make that money back? Sure people will buy it but will enough people buy it. It's why I just don't see Skyrim being a massive hit on the switch. I hope die hard Nintendo fans who have still yet to play it buy it.

But it's been 5 years since it released. 6 years by the time the switch version releases. Are people really going to spend £40/£60 on a 6 year old game?

Neonridr3044d ago

absolutely. Have you seen the game? It still sells today.. plus Nintendo is an untapped audience for Rockstar. I have to imagine a port would be quite cheap. And they could easily make their money back.

ChickeyCantor3044d ago (Edited 3044d ago )

> What is the point of Rockstar spending millions on bringing it to the switch to not only make that money back?

But it won't cost millions.

Ports are done by far smaller teams.
And with Switches features porting shouldn't take that long.

Also GTA5 on the way? why not?

ocelot073044d ago

I am not game developer. I don't know how much it costs to port one game to another. I know how big GTA is I love GTA my self. My question is if Nintendo is an untapped audience for Nintendo. Why did they skip the Wii U?

For example 2 years ago. The Wii U had what about 9-10 million consoles sold at that point. So there was a decent size audience there. We know the Wii U was slightly more powerful than the Xbox 360. GTA 5 was released on the 360. It worked fine on the 360. Why didn't they simply port the 360 version to the Wii U if it was cheap to port over?

Why all of a sudden release it on the Switch? Sure it's more powerful than the PS3/360/Wii U. Sure it would run the PS3/360 version of GTA fine. But at this moment in time the Switch simply does not have the install base.

If they release GTA5 in say 2 years time once the switch has a decent install base. What would be the point in it? GTA5 would be 5 years old at that point. Anyone who wanted to play it would have by that point. It's like Skyrim by the time the switch version comes out it will be 6 years old. I just don't think it's going to sell all that well on the switch due to the high RRP price.

Even the thought of GTA5 on a portable tablet. Again this is just my opinion but I don't think it will get a lot of appeal. Sure it would be nice to play GTA5 while taking a dump. Or while am on the train. But I can do that now with my Vita.

PhoenixUp3045d ago

Cuz GTAV wouldn't sell well on Switch

sullynathan3045d ago

The 4th best selling game of all time can sell well anywhere

PhoenixUp3045d ago

Many high selling third party franchises didn't sell well on Wii U. It won't be different here

sullynathan3045d ago

Doubt those high selling third party games were GTA. GTA, has sold well on every platform its been on, whether it be the PSP or Cell phones.

PhoenixUp3045d ago

Yet GTA released on DS, the second most successful platform ever, and it still performed abysmally on it

https://www.google.com/amp/...

Same thing would happen if another GTA game were to be released on another Nintendo platform

sullynathan3044d ago

Nintendo had a response to that. Chinatown wars isn't even a 3D gta either

GameBoyColor3045d ago

didnt stop it from being on ps3/360

MyDietEqualsGames3045d ago

I honestly do NOT think GTAV is possible on the switch. Not without severe consequences.

porkChop3045d ago

It was on the PS3 and 360, so explain how it wouldn't be possible to run GTA V on a more powerful system? Like where is the logic in that?

PhoenixUp3045d ago

Make no mistake GTAV is very can run well on Switch, as the PS3 and 360 versions can attest to that fact. It just wouldn't make much feasible sense to port it to that platform.

stuna13045d ago

No it's because the fanbase wouldn't buy it because it's not the best version on consoles! Any game that released on the WII U was talked about to no end as long as it was considered the definative version of said game! But let that same game release on another console where it looked slightly better and you could guarantee that the game was going to be sent to its death. It happened throughout the WII U's life cycle. That is why developers stopped putting major games on the WII U unless they were exclusive to the console, and even in some cases they still flopped

One thing that stands out about the more die-hard Nintendo supporters is they are very self entitled, but in the same sense, they like to project their own self center attitude onto the other fanbase supporters of other consoles . Like their somehow superior, yet they're no different.

MecheSlays3044d ago

Portable gta 5. i'd buy in a heartbeat

PhoenixUp3044d ago

objdadon3044d ago

Probably the same reason it wasn't on Wii U.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3045d ago

and that was? I dont recall Rockstar saying anything.

SkippyPaccino3045d ago

Rockstar needs a reassurance that they'll make their money back 10 folds before investing in a switch port. It would definitely be cool and could happen, but before it even has a chance to land a port, the switch needs to sell well over 10 millions units.... (it probably also needs a little greasing of pockets courtesy of Nintendo)

Pamela-Ibis3045d ago

Im sure alot of people wants to play gta 5 on the go. Yeah it may not look the prettiest but it is basically a tabket after all

MecheSlays3044d ago

it'll look a little bit better than 360

kinda feels like it just makes the image have less contrast, removing shadows somewhat.
Even if it's "more realistic" I think the standard looks better. Not in every situation but the standard likely runs better so I'll side with that more than likely.

Milk...get your milk...and so much more. Really when you release the same games in three editions over 15 years it's amazing how much money, and the amount of sales you earn. It's amazing how no one can compete.

Mr_cheese39d ago

To be fair, no many companies could release the same game over and over. They've earned that whether we agree or not

DarXyde39d ago

I mean Resident Evil 4 has had longer legs and still hasn't done anything like this.

Profchaos39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

GTA v isn't the only game that's released three consoles generations running but nothing has sold those numbers including GTA San Andreas which is now 4 console generations deep.

anast39d ago

Looks like a 2040 release for GTA6

gold_drake38d ago

thats insane right?
absolutely insane

rlow138d ago

No surprising considering that it’s been on every major platform and store.

I decided to look up the longest and most sold games list. To my surprise Tetris has takes the top spot.

I mean, considering the amount of time between the two. It better be a massive upgrade. Especially with the amount of money Rockstar raked in from GTA Online.

MDTunkown46d ago

Most of scenes are pre rendered

andy8546d ago

Literally none are. If you know anything about rockstar they don't do that. Confirmed by themselves that this is all in-game

MDTunkown46d ago

Is that why first gta5 trailer looked better than the final product? Or is that why same happened with rdr2 ?
Rockstar told 50% are cutscenes and rockstars always used better models during cutscenes than in game.
You legit seems to know rockstar very well.

andy8546d ago (Edited 46d ago )

It didn't though? And neither did RDR2. In fact it was actually the opposite. What's with the hate boner? If you don't like it just avoid the topic

InUrFoxHole45d ago

Why don't either of you provide proof. This is just a he said, she said argument at this point

generic-user-name46d ago

You're either lying or just don't know what pre rendered means. Pre rendered means that if you change the character's appearance (clothes, accessories etc) they wouldn't show up in the cutscenes because they were already made and aren't being rendered in real time. This is something that doesn't happen in Rockstar games.

"Is that why first gta5 trailer looked better than the final product? Or is that why same happened with rdr2 ?"

In fact some of the scenes in RDR2 looked better in the retail version than at launched.

anast45d ago

The OP is taking the shot-gun approach: say a bunch of random tripe and see if something sticks.

repsahj46d ago

Damn! GTAV graphics are still awesome! But, I am so excited to play GTA6!!!
