Did Nintendo just confirm GameCube games on Switch Virtual Console?

We've been hoping and praying for many years that Nintendo would eventually bring GameCube games to the Virtual Console. And they might be working on just that. That's according to Nintendo's Yoshiaki Koizumi.

I need those Gamecube Joycon in my life asap!

Why didn't Nintendo just put analog triggers on all Switch controllers

_-EDMIX-_2994d ago

Because clearly they want to sell plastic

_-EDMIX-_2994d ago

That would be most good because Nintendo has to rely deeply on their first party I believe this should be a no-brainer for them going into any generation for trying to have some connectivity with their Virtual Console store with some of these games.

I'm mad because I thought we would at least get GameCube games on 3DS.

RosweeSon2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

They haven't even done GBA games let alone N64 games apart from Ocarina Remake and Majoras but VC N64 games. Nope. But yeah let's just jump straight to Gamecube games. I'm gutted 3ds doesn't play Wii U games 🙄😉😂✌&# 127995;🤓🕹
Ok I've got some GBA games for my 3DS but they haven't released any on the store that's a no brainer really I didn't want them on Wii U Home console I wanted them on my 3ds Portable like they were intended.

Segata2994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

There is GBA and N64 games on Wii U. I was just playing Son N Punishment/Konami Krazy Racers today

DarXyde2994d ago

Segata is correct.

I own Wario Ware GBA for Wii U.

"I'm mad because I thought we'd at least get Gamecube games on 3ds"
I'm more than aware those GBA/N64 games are on Wii U. He was mentioning 3ds tho.

yomfweeee2994d ago

So Nintendo says we cannot give concrete answers and we have nothing to announce... that is confirmation? Morons.

DivineAssault 2994d ago

I sure hope so.. I grabbed a 64GB micro for $20.. Gamecube games dont take much space at all either. Unless they polish them up for HDTVs

RosweeSon2994d ago

Yeah I'm sure Gamecube file sizes will be minimal wind Waker HD is less than 2GB and that's a HD remaster.

MetroidFREAK212994d ago

I won an eBay auction for a Samsung 256GB Micro SD card. Retails on their site for $249.99... Won it for $49 with free shipping :D

What GC games would you like to see? I would love Metroid Prime 1, 2, and Paper Mario TTYD

luckytrouble2994d ago

I would be really, really hesitant about that, but maybe that's just the skeptic in me that refuses to believe someone would be stupid enough to post a legitimate $200 item in a way that it would barely reach $50 by auction conclusion.

MetroidFREAK212994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

@luckytrouble, I of course did my research on the memory card after being lied to about the previous one I bought. I searched Samsung's official website, and sure enough the card I was bidding on was $249.99 for the card on their site. There was another auction I almost decided to bid on, but that one finished at over $100 for the same type of card. The reason the price was so low, is because there were only 2 bidders. Myself and the other person. This time it is a genuine card, so don't worry :) http://www.samsung.com/us/c...

jagermaster6192994d ago (Edited 2994d ago )

Be careful because buying SD cards online can be a bad idea, mainly because it's not always the product they say it is and send you a generic piece of crap! You should always buy it at a store in a sealed package that way you never get fooled.

nitus102993d ago

The GameCube disk can only store 1.5GB so you could easily fit well over 45 GameCube games on a 64GB micro. The problem is you will have to buy the GameCube games either on cartridges or by digital download. I somehow can't see Nintendo allowing you to get the game for free or minimal cost if you have the original GameCube game.

Of course, if Nintendo only sells remastered and enhanced GameCube games then they will most likely be bigger than 1.5GB. Still, you can get quite good (subjective) HD games (up to 1080p) that are under 2GB in size.

Farewell to the Virtual Console, the boldest part of Nintendo's mid-00s revolution

Nintendo's mid-noughties revolution feels so distant now, even if its impact hasn't really dimmed. The touch sensation of the DS led in its own way to the iOS revolution, the motion controls of the Wii helped reestablish video games in the living room and push them towards the mainstream, and the reverberations of both are felt to this day. There's another facet of its revolution that sadly never had the same impact, and now is set to finally fizzle away.

The Virtual Console vs. Nintendo Switch Online

Streaming services have become really popular in the last decade. Are subscription and streaming services right for Videogames?

Nintendo Switch Online has replaced the Virtual Console but is the service up to the standard of previous Nintendo offerings? Furthermore, do subscription services like Xbox’s Game Pass and NSO really suit video games? This article explores these issues and looks back at the Virtual Console.

I see no reason Nintendo can’t just offer both

FinalFantasyFanatic807d ago

I really miss the VC, I don't want more subscriptions that I have to, I try to keep as few as possible.

silkylove807d ago

VC is better imo. I got games like Super Metroid for like 30 cents. If NSO allowed you to play online with anybody then I would give it the edge.

Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

While that's valid, though, that old social media meme 'why not both?' springs to mind. Why not have subscription options and a Virtual Console eShop? With NSO being multi-faceted in its offering, it seems unlikely that everyone would drop that subscription in a heartbeat in order to buy Super Mario Bros. for $5.

Because a yearly flow of money is better than people buying specifically what they want. If online was also not behind a paywall you'd be surprised just how many people would drop the sub. When you're only given one option there's not much of a choice.

FallenAngel1984845d ago

No reason not to have both. Consumers would have the option of buying separately like PS+ and Game Pass owners can or have access to it all with a sub

Inverno845d ago

Of course there's no reason, and Nintendo fans have been very vocal about virtual console being brought back. I think however that those who really have an issue with how Nintendo has handled classic games have stayed with emulation. I know the appeal of being able to buy instead of the free alternative. As I see it, it sends a message that there's still an audience for these games, but for whatever reason it may be it's not been made easy to the consumer.

CrimsonWing69845d ago

I miss the Virtual Console. I really want HAM with it on the Wii.

Chocoburger844d ago

Just another reason why modding your Switch can fix almost all of the flaws Nintendo purposefully created on their platform. Save file back ups being another reason. Nintendo is the only company that forces you to pay money in order to back up your save files, and it doesn't even work for all games. Talk about anti-consumer B.S.!

ZeekQuattro844d ago

Because it was only successful on the Wii. Both the Wii U and 3DS VC offerings were no where as successful. It was time to move on from that service. More and more 3rd parties devs started supplying older games in other ways on the Switch so there's no need. Look at all the Capcom collections for instance. Even Konami got in on it. Same with Neo Geo or Atari collections. I could go on and on.
