Remembering the Wii U: 5 Best RPGs

At one point in time, all of the best RPGs were coming out on a Nintendo system. That changed pretty quickly when the Playstation came along, leaving the N64 with the bare minimum for RPG fans. Since then RPGs have evolved a lot, and while the Gamecube and Wii still received their fair share of RPGs, the Big N has not really gotten the same amount of love from a genre that defined itself on the Super Nintendo. Things look to be changing on the Switch, with games like Skyrim and Dragon Quest coming to Nintendo’s newest system, but before then let’s take a look at some of the best offered on the Wii U.

Nintendo really tried with the Wii U. A Monster Hunter 3 HD title, Xenoblade Chronicles X (a massive jrpg on a grand scale), and a new jrpg IP titled; Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.

Loved the Wii U (still do), though it's kind of a blessing the console failed because it would've left Nintendo adapting to their old ways. After hearing developers praising the Switch for its ease of development (Nicalis can attest to that!), its the wake up call Nintendo needed to make the Switch was it is today.

Lots of devs saying they won't make games for it though. If only it were more powerful with onboard chat and matchmaking

I do love the wiiu despite having one of switches shortcomings

I recently just bought Child of Light during a flash sale on PSN and I'm loving it so far. Great thing that this RPG is available across a wide range of platforms

Featuring_Dante3019d ago

Best Two JRPG in the past 4 years on consoles. Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

If yall can't list anything better then I am correct.

"Best Two JRPG in the past 4 years on consoles. Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE"

Only in the minds of the most diehard Nintendo fans.

You sure do love sidestepping. If you can't counter my claim then don't bother.

Final Fantasy XV and I Am Setsuna.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3019d ago

FFXV is terrible. It has too many problems. I beat the game at the end of 2016.
The way the magic and summon mechanics work is terrible, the AI is really bad for the party members and the story is truly incomplete.

Never played I am Setusna but will pick it up on Switch. Was gonna get it on PS4 but I spent my money on 3DS games and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II which I would say it's in Top 7 JRPG.

conanlifts3019d ago

I am setsuna is supposed to be good. But it would not be in the same league as xenoblade.

Featuring_Dante3018d ago (Edited 3018d ago )

ofcourse you'd say its terrible, since its not on, oh the grace of nintendo's consoles'
Your statement is as subjective as it gets.
xenoblade chronicles is supposed to only get 'fun' after 20 to 25 hours, other than that, it suffers from the western open world syndrome.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3018d ago (Edited 3018d ago )

Uh no.
I have you know that I beaten FFVII-X. Owned them on PS1/PS2. XIII on PS3.
I even have the Vita version of FFX.
With FFVIII being my favorite and second favorite JRPG of all time. I beaten FFIV-X and XIII.

I know it too much for you console slave to handle.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is a overall much better game. It's WAY WAY WAY more open and freedom. Does everything better. And I know this because I put over 150 hours into it.

Featuring_Dante3017d ago

it does everything better in your opinion. The general consensus is that its awful

Why Dark Souls 2 Deserves a Second Chance in 2025

As difficult and frustrating as it is, people should consider reliving the Dark Souls 2 experience, especially because of what's coming to the game.

Many of those who hate Dark Souls II hate it because it's not Dark Souls. The same people love Dark Souls III because it isn't Dark Souls II.

And so many of the issues at the centre of common complaints about DS2 are present in DS3 and sometimes even DS1. The hatred and bile spewed over this perfectly decent game is ludicrous.

CrimsonWing698d ago

I don’t think it’s a terrible game, but like a movie sequel by a different director, for me, it does NOT capture any of the “magic” felt from the Miyazaki entries. Boss battles don’t feel epic, environments don’t have the same sense of awe, the enemy variety isn’t particularly interesting, the art direction just feels bland, about the only thing I can give it praise for is some of the music.

Now, again, this is only how I feel about it, so I’m not trying to invalidate his you feel about the game, but it is the worst entry in the series due to those factors and it’s the least re-visited entry, for me.

Is it decent as a game on its own? Sure. But in comparison to the Miyazaki entries, it does not stack up and I believe that’s where many were disappointed with it.

PrimeVinister8d ago

Completely fair. I cannot disagree either, mate.

MrWood8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

You can also play it in VR flawlessly on PC & controller with the LukeRoss mod so… another reason to jump back in with extra immersion.

jznrpg8d ago

It’s not a bad game it’s just not as good as the others

Shadow Man7d ago

The controls felt very clunky to me, I tried playing it after beating Darksouls 3 and it didn’t feel fluid, obviously the hit detection is less superior for been an older game.

Six Times When Games Turned Into A Horror Game

Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!

Immediately thought of the El Dorado zombie dudes in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

raWfodog11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.

Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.

NettosGameRoom11d ago

That scene where you first see them attack is pretty crazy!

Relientk7711d ago

I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.
