So hopefully we can run faster and the maps are better designed so people can be on even grounds. I hate maps that have multiple ways, it's annoying when someone comes behind you every second.

I think they should open up a map editor for consoles and let the maps flow. Add in a rating system so you can play the top played and rated. And slow down on releasing a new cod every single year, instead skip a year and let the player made maps fill the gap. Hell add a zombie mode map editor too.

The futuristic mechanics are an illusion when it makes you think combat is quicker. Back in CoD4 (the most simplistic modern CoD) games would end quicker than in any other game after it. Moving around faster does not equate to faster gameplay/combat.

When has Cod ever had balanced weapons? MW2 was my favourite yet some of the weapons were very unbalanced. I'd actually say they're more balanced in today's Cod's.

Aside from the LMG 'sniping' in CoD 4, those were pretty balanced iirc. No idea about the remake, but back in 2007 I don't remember it being all that bad with MW1.

The perks were more hit and miss though. Not so much that one was so much better than others, but more that only 2 or 3 combinations were consistently competitive, the rest were worthless.

Weapon wise, though. A huge part of the balance came from the limited attachment options. Each attachment had a specific advantage, but came with a major sacrifice. There were advantages for people that took the time to get accurate with iron sights, because you then could use the slots for other things. Compare that to something like BF4's weapon balance, and it hurts how far out of touch developers have become with options they put in their game.

Just saying, CoD 4 landed before developers (or, probably more specifically, publishers) decided that a game has to be bloated with ideas and mechanics that really only look good on paper. That bloat is how shooters 'innovated' over the original Modern Warfare. If this is what Activision is referring to about going back to its roots, then that is a great thing...but easier said than done.

This phrase has always killed many franchises in the past. This line was uttered for Tomb Raider 2013 too and it didn't take it back to its roots, instead it just copied what was popular and turned it into an action shooter with platforming like Uncharted. It did the polar opposite.
