Beautiful Desolation is a new isometric adventure game that takes an apocalyptic setting to new heights thanks to a striking premise and art design.
Spooky season is here again at last and time of the horror game has arrived alongside it. This year has seen the return of some the genre's greatest entires, but both tended to focus more on thrills than they did chills. So, those wanting a bit more of the latter this month would do well to check out at least one of these before Halloween rolls around.
GOG is giving away Beautiful Desolation as part of their Summer Sale. The game giveaway ends in 72 hours, so you should claim it now if you are interested in getting it for free.
Two dimensional (2D) isometric titles have become incredibly common in recent years. Titles like Diablo, Gears Tactics, Bastion, Hades, and various Super Mario Role-playing Games, have proliferated the market and created certain expectations for the genre. Beautiful Desolation meets and exceeds what to expect from these kinds of games, and subsequently elevates the genre to new heights. It does so with a story imbued with alien technologies and time travelling elements, and further raises the bar for what should be expected from South African developed titles. The game is exceptional in many ways, and is a must play title.
That art design is so interesting, and the concept itself seems unique.
Wow, cool art style
Really glad to see South African developers and African developers in general taking advantage of their unique cultural traditions. There's so much potential there for great storytelling
Isometric adventure titles are really good at giving players a sense of scale. While I'm not too well-versed in the genre, I can certainly appreciate the visual direction and the environments established through what I have seen with Beautiful Desolation.
