Nintendo Switch Hands-on: Compelling concept with few games to back it up

In an industry wash with video game consoles that perform and look nearly identically, Nintendo's Switch is a compelling proposition that's easy to get excited about. Unfortunately, the console's launch lineup is abysmal.

Seriously, the Switch may have the worst launch lineup in video game history.

Erik73573058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

Compared to other launches it looks pretty good. Feel free to disagree and continue hating on this fun system though.

tastas213058d ago

Exactly! This launch is so much better than the Xbox One and PS4. asdf!

conanlifts3058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

Yet at the same time it might also have the best launch game in history. If it does then how can it be the worst launch line up?

pat_11_53058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

Other then Zelda, what at the marquee, system selling titles the Switch has? There are none. I'm sure games are coming, but at launch the Switch's lineup is abysmal.

You missed the point of my comment. At launch games are limited, I agree. There are a few games that get good reviews like i am setsuna and disgaea 5, but they are not in any way system sellers.
My point was that if zelda turns out to be one of the best games in history then i would argue its launch game selection can not be even close to the worst.

As for a list of marquee games..mk8 is being ported from a system with minimal sales. It has new modes and new courses for the battle mode. This is a game every gamer should play.
ARMS....who knows, could be good, could be terrible but it is at least a new ip so let's not judge just yet.
Splatoon 2... a sequel to a great game.
Fire emblem Warriors..no idea if this will be good. But it is a popular brand.

Xenoblade 2...follow up to a near perfect game.

Mario...a true marquee game.

Is this every game exclusive game this year.. no just some of the nintendo 1st party games available only on this system ( except mk8 which has exclusive content).
But as for launch...do you need anything more if this does turn out as anticipated...i would say not.

The Switch is seriously a great machine and anyone who doesn't think that hasn't used it. I bet this guy didn't even actually try the thing. He seems like an Apple fanboy.

pat_11_53059d ago

I've played it, believe me. I love the concept of the system (I even state that in the story). Beyond Zelda, there really aren't any good launch titles though.

The 10th Rider3058d ago

I actually agree about the actual launch. I mean, Bomberman and a few others might be fun, but Zelda is the only one that really grabs me. I do think the first year line-up is pretty solid, it's just that without Zelda it doesn't have much at all on actual launch day.

CocoaBrother3059d ago (Edited 3059d ago )

"I longed to be able to play my favourite Nintendo 64 titles on the go"

As great as Super Mario 64 is, you do realize the 64 had a horrible launch line up right? You had that game and Pilotwings followed by Mortal Kombat over a month later.

Switch has Zelda, Bomberman, 1-2 Switch, I am Setsuna, Binding of Isaac, and RedOut as launch titles with other indies helping boast its lineup.

There's been way worse lineups(Master System and Virtual Boy come to mind as well) so give it time; more games will come.

pat_11_53059d ago

I get the point you're trying to make, but in the end the 64 had a great library.

CocoaBrother3059d ago

Yes, a library that took time to evolve. I still play mine with my friends(Conker multiplayer is lots of fun even to this day).

What I'm saying is give it time. The 64 had a horrible launch but proved itself within its lifecycle. The Switch can too.

conanlifts3058d ago

The biggest issue with switch is not the launch linep up, console, controllers or price. These are all acceptable to me. I believe the biggest issue is Nintendo and their lack of information and communication. You mention N64, nintendo have not. They have made no mention of virtual console or when it may arrive. Even if it is a few months after launch the info would be good. They have not followed up with any information since the reveal. To me this is the biggest issue. Nintendo themselves are ignoring negativity and not giving out information to rectify things. This is the biggest issue with switch in my opinion.

pat_11_53059d ago

@cocoabroher fair enough, but I think we're always saying "give it time" with Nintendo's systems. We need to expect better.

Servbot413058d ago

A bunch of indie games available years ago with numerous discounts, but now at full price! Man the Switch sure has a great lineup!

tastas213058d ago

Why don't you just go hug your Xbox One if you like it so much. The Switch is going to be amazing and anyone who says otherwise doesn't understand gamez.

PhoenixUp3059d ago

That's the issue with some of Nintendo's latest systems. They come up with a slew of ideas that get implemented into the console that sounds great at first, but then it ultimately doesn't get used to its full potential later on in its lifecycle

pat_11_53059d ago

That's so true. I think this is true of almost everything Nintendo has released console wise recently.

tastas213058d ago

The issue is Sony ponies and Xbots can't admit how great Nintendo really is. The Switch is going to outsell everyhtigb,.

Allsystemgamer3058d ago

😂😂😂 28514;😂😂

Erik73573058d ago

Compared to other launches, it looks pretty good.

pat_11_53058d ago (Edited 3058d ago )

Really? What other console has had a worse launch? All I can think of is the Virtual Boy and perhaps the PS2.

tastas213058d ago

Finally! Someone who knows what they're talking about.

tastas213058d ago

The Switch is literally perfect and has one of the best launch lineups ever. I am Setsuna is incredible.

What was the main problem with the Wii U??????.....Anybody?????....o yeah that's right.....lack of FUCKING GAMES!!! There's only 1 game worth buying at launch, that's Zelda. Games like 1 2 switch and arms are gonna get old after 10 mins, a rehashed Mario kart

shockwave4life3058d ago

A rehashed Mario kart 8 which has 5 new characters....battle mode which should of came with the game in first place, and no new courses, splatoon 2 in the summertime which who really gives a shit about! And mario at Christmas

pat_11_53058d ago

I wouldn't go that far. People are pretty excited about Splatoon. The issue here is that these games aren't ready at launch and are all coming later in the year.

tastas213058d ago

Ha, shows what you know. Mario Kart 8 is aweosme. your prolly jus tbad it.

tastas213058d ago

The Wii U has the best library. Splatoon, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker Wind Waker Hd, so many games. You're just ont looking at them.

Tempting... but I have to say I am more of an arcade deluxe cab fan. I loved the ones for Galaxy Force, Thunder Blade and After Burner.
