I'm curious to see the sales numbers for this game, I really hope it will do well in the west.

Xieldos3062d ago

I have a feeling Sega have vastly understocked it

Why o why3061d ago

Got my copy. . . I'm good

_-EDMIX-_3061d ago

Or they underestimated how many people wanted the game, you still have to consider that this is a very Niche series in the West.

Thatguy-3103061d ago (Edited 3061d ago )

I'm sure it's going to do well. That's why reviews and word of mouth are important. Crazy how these Japanese games have been hitting it out of the park. This year is off to a strong start.

DigitalRaptor3061d ago

I doubt Sega anticipated it to be this popular, so their first shipment will have been constrained.

isarai3062d ago

I'm really glad this is finally catching on in the west, always felt it would with enough exposure

_-EDMIX-_3061d ago

Agreed.

I always felt that a reboot or prequel might have been in order to get everyone on board I believe because of how story oriented the series is they should continue with bringing the rest of the series over to the west and on PlayStation 4 and I believe they should make a remake of Yakuza 2 using the same team that made Yakuza 01 remake.

rocketpanda3061d ago

Agreed, the series hasn't sold too well in the past outside Japan. So it is good news to know the latest in the series is in demand. It is vastly underrated but this time around it looks like it is getting positive acknowledgement.

kevnb3061d ago

Imagine if they marketed it and gave it English voice over?

SaveFerris3061d ago

With the voice actors strike going on, could gamers have ended up with a subpar dub?

kevnb3061d ago

I dont know, but for mainstream appeal you simply must have english vo.

tyasia03061d ago

I could care less if it has mainstream appeal, the games are better off with out it.

As long as it sells enough to keep Sega translating them for the fans I am happy.

kevnb3061d ago

Why are people so opposed to an English dub for those that would appreciate it? It would obviously have to be optional.

Yi-Long3061d ago

Multiple reasons why people might be opposed:
1: It's not like dub-fans have ever shown solidarity and/or respect towards those who were asking for the original voices to be included (optional), calling them 'weeaboos' and such insults.
2: The game is very Japanese, set in Japan (obviously), and all about Japanese folks. A dub would most likely kill that authenticity.
3: Not to mention the facts many dubs these days are done unprofessionally, with localisation studios taking liberties with translations, throwing in immature memes and jokes and whatever, for their own amusement. Treehouse for example have managed to ruin quite a few releases...
4: It would take even longer to release them in west.
5: It would heavily increase the cost, which is a risk with niche titles like these, so there's a risk that will hold Sega back on releasing these titles and their spin-offs

Etc etc.

Let's make a deal, if 'Yankeeboos' show solidarity with 'Weeaboos', when it comes to the collective appeal of dual-audio being included in releases like Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, etc etc, then we'll return that solidarity by asking Sega and other Japanese studios to consider including English dubs. So everybody might actually get to play these great games in the way they wish they can...

TheColbertinator3061d ago

Gotta agree with YiLong on this one.

This series is meant to be Japanese voiced

DragonDDark3061d ago

They did it before, it did not go well...

Nyxus3061d ago

It's a game that takes place in Japan, with Japanese characters.

Pozzle3061d ago (Edited 3061d ago )

I don't think it would have made a huge difference for a game like this, tbh. It's already a niche title with very Japanese style, themes, and humor. People who aren't interested in that sort of thing still wouldn't play it even if it had English voices. It was never going to have mainstream appeal because it simply isn't a game aimed at mainstream Western audiences.

JCW20053061d ago

sadly no dub, sega been hella lazy on this part of the game's localization, at least shenmue 3 is getting english voices.

3061d ago
tyasia03061d ago (Edited 3061d ago )

The Japanese voice actors are iconic and have done the voices for these characters in at least 10 games.

I don't want a dub that's probably the only thing that would cause me to stop investing in the series.

power of Black3061d ago

Hah, an English speaking Yakuza? I sure don't want to listen to a pussified Yakuza.

_-EDMIX-_3061d ago

Except they tried that a long time ago and it did not work out too well for them.

The reality is this is a very Japanese game and Sega understands this and they're using this to their strong suit to Market it this way

I honestly believe the best way to release this game to the West is by keeping the original Japanese voice overs simply because the game is about Japan the people from the West could care less if these people are speaking English because they're playing it because of the concept of Japanese gangsters.

Would you want to play a game that was set in the 2000 BC era and everyone just magically spoke English?

I actually believe adding English voice overs ruins some of the authenticity of the game in may be the best way to release it in the west is to maintain the Japanese Concept in the first place.

Sega is one of these companies that very much understands they are very Japanese and they're going to use that towards their advantage

rocketpanda3061d ago

The option would bring some appeal. But the Japanese voice acting is great in the Yakuza franchise, it doesn't need it at this point.

IIFloodyII3061d ago

As long as the let me choose what language I want I wouldn't mind, make a second playthrough more fun at least, but there's no way the English dub would come close, the Japanese dub has some incredibly good VAs and losing that would be a huge disappointment.

"“Sus” is short for suspicious. It was first used in Among Us where players discuss whether a player is responsible for murders in the spaceship." Nope. In use for a century. Simple googling would have done the trick. Funny article, but come on, do some research before you post something as truth.

Good article on "sus"
