Final Fantasy XV has crushed every sales record previous set by the franchise. Which just means that the big experiment passed with flying colors.

I can't put this game down, I've got over 70+ hours in it already and I work 12 hour shifts and married with 2 kids. For me that's a lot of time in a game. I didn't get it day 1 I got it a few weeks later.

Kurisu3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

I've just started a new game+ so I can go back and complete the content that I missed on the first play through. Completed it in around 35 hours. In regards to my thoughts on the game: I enjoyed it, but it could have been so much more. The story let it down. Kingsglaive shouldn't have existed and should have been put in the game to bulk it up and add some more characters, and it was frustrating how the backstory of our four protagonists was left out completely and shoved in Brotherhood.

EDIT: To people below, I never said that I got through everything. That's why I've started a new game+. Also Sean, yes, hopefully the DLC will flush it out more with the character episodes. I'm looking forward to them, but it would have been nice if it was all just part of the game.

SeanScythe3068d ago

Well the DLC coming is supposed to flush that out more isn't it?

SoulMikeY3068d ago

If you did it in 35 hours, you rushed. Still tying up loose ends at 110 hours...

How was the adamantoise fight?

johndoe112113068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

@SoulMikeY

I agree with that. It's virtually impossible to experience all this game has to offer in 35 hours. There's literally nothing left for me to do in this game, I'm just sitting and waiting on dlc now. I've leveled up every character, completed every hunt, fought every boss, completed all the secret caves, got all the special weapons and got the platinum trophy and I had to invest 132 hours to do it. Granted there may be people who would do it in less time but I think generally it would take over 100 hours to fully complete this game.

Omnislashver363068d ago

Other big omissions were the empire. Usually they go into depth with the enemy characters, like Scarlet or Rufus in the Shinra Corporation. Ravus, Aranea, the Emporer, Ardyn, we could have seen more of their interactions. Secondly Luna should have gotten more than half a chapter. She had all the makings of a good main character, but was a supporting role instead.

bouzebbal3068d ago

Great great game. I'm very surprised. I'm only chapter 9 but the game is getting more and more interesting for some time now.

I keep leaving the story parts to go do side quests and fish. Game is pretty addictive.

Much more fun to play on the PS4P since I got that this week, because the loading for fast travel is much faster.:)

_-EDMIX-_3068d ago

I love doing all the hunts in a game, it reminds me of grinding in Final Fantasy 12.

lipton1013068d ago

I'm about 35 hours in and I'm really not digging it to be honest. The first 10 hours I hated the game. Then it grew on me and I went crazy with it. What turned me off is the limited main story. It doesn't feel like a proper final fantasy (12 and back) to me. The main storyline is WAY too short. I remember final fantasy 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 as having an epic storyline first with side quests second whereas this one is like they prioritized side quests to give the story a cheapened length to account for the short main story.

At one point I did so many side quests that I had no idea what was going on once I dove back into the main storyline.

It might provide hours of entertainment but when compared with its classic predecessors this one comes up way short in my opinion. I'm terrified they're going to muck up FF7 because of this

_-EDMIX-_3068d ago

Lol agreed.

You have more going on than me. I'm around 66 or 67 hours in.

I just wish they didn't cut a lot of content out.

fenome3068d ago

I still haven't picked it up due to backlog and the onslaught of new games coming. I figure it's probably best if I wait until around summer to pick it up anyways, they'll probably have a bunch of stuff patched in by then.

The 10th Rider3068d ago

The PS1 was at 50 Million shipped a month after Final Fantasy VIII's release, as far as I could find. PS4 sales now (3 months after FFXV's release) are at about 55 million. Xbox One sales are over 25 million. So 75 million consoles sold VS 50 million consoles shipped at the time of each respective game's release. With that in mind a 19% increase in physical sales isn't all that the article makes it out to be.

Concertoine3068d ago

This game has probably sold like >300k on xbone though.

The 10th Rider3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

That's about where VGChartz has it at, 370k. I know they're not the most reliable, but as far as I know it's about all we have to go on for that.

I'd be more interested to see how it does in the long run. Day one sales aren't a very good indicator of a game's success anymore.

_-EDMIX-_3068d ago

? But this is not the PlayStation one and this isn't 1999 lol

I'm sorry but Success is Not inevitable.

There have been lots of series that have failed over the generations that used to be huge popular series.

Clearly Final Fantasy 15 had to do something correct to meet those numbers this is a greater feat today then that it might have been in 1999.

You have to factor that they have much more competition in regards to game sales than we did in 1999.

The 10th Rider3068d ago (Edited 3068d ago )

Meh, I did try to look at various software sale numbers from that era, but it's hard to find data from 1999.

I think today's world of gaming leans much more heavily towards early sales than things did back then. Keep in mind that the internet wasn't widely used back in 1999 and many people weren't aware of what games were coming out or when outside of word of mouth, in store adverts, and magazine articles. Most people didn't rush out to get a game the moment it came out. In contrast, look at all the pre-order incentives and everything they push today. Most games are forgotten six months down the line and after that most of the sales they get is from sales and price drops. Also, as a AAA JRPG, Final Fantasy XV faced almost no comparable competition around the time it came out. Yes, there was Battlefield, Call of Duty and the lot . . . But those are totally different genres.

Now I'm not saying Final Fantasy didn't sell well or is a flop by any means, but comparing it to FFVIII's sales is comparing apples to oranges. It's still one of the better selling Final Fantasy games out there, but I'm just saying that compared to Final Fantasy VIII it didn't do quite as well as the article implies (based purely off of numbers and number of consoles out there.)

AnnaDea3068d ago

I played around 60+ hours the first 5 days. Now I'm waiting for the cut content and dlc to continue. Hopefully the 60 fps patch is on its way for the Pro too.

AnnaDea3068d ago

3 down votes for something I consider really positive? ?_?

Six Times When Games Turned Into A Horror Game

Ever play a game a game only to discover at some point it transforms into a horror game? No? Well Netto's Game Room shares six games that do just that!

Immediately thought of the El Dorado zombie dudes in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

raWfodog41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.

Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.

NettosGameRoom40d ago

That scene where you first see them attack is pretty crazy!

Relientk7740d ago

I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.

always liked 15, but the development was shch a shitshow. it could have been so much more.

but Tabata did a good job with what he had regardless

DivineHand125175d ago

Ff15 was a missed opportunity from square as they transitioned from turn based to real time.

One of the issues is that it was 30 fps. The combat mechanics required precision dodges to activate Noctis teleport ability and it was difficult to do at 30 fps. I am glad they rectified that in FF16. The story and flow also felt like it went through a chopshop similar to how some live service games end up when they are trying to meet a deadline. Those extra episodes they sold as dlc should have been in the maingame.

FF15 is one of the weaker entries in the series.

Z501174d ago

Dodges don't activate the teleport ability. Teleport was R1 + O. Dodge was just the O button. Explain the Black Hood (the item that automatically Dodges for you)

TheNamelessOne175d ago

Ah yes; FF XV.
The beginning of me coming to the realization the series was no longer for me.

Michiel1989175d ago

16 was a lot better, I think 15 was just a big mess with how development went and all. The music though, one of the best in the series, probably the only reason I finished the game.

Cacabunga175d ago

At least FF15 had RPG elements . 16 was just an action game from beginning to end.

Michiel1989175d ago

I rather have a good action game than a bad rpg with 2 button combat

Cacabunga174d ago (Edited 174d ago )

Then call it something else then FF. I got scammed with FF16. Nothing of what i expected it to be.
Even the action is bad in it, especially after the demo section where absolutely nothing happens until the very end.

FF15 isnt a great game but it has some variety at least.

CrimsonWing69175d ago

That initial trailer with the Leviathan fight was the game I wish we got. The actual retail release was watchdogged to all Hell and while there’s enjoyment to be had in the game, it’s such an incomplete product and so many elements feel so slapped together without any cohesion.

Like, don’t get me wrong, I loved fishing, cooking, and the first third of the game, but I much rather they made a story that didn’t feel barely there and the the last third of the game didn’t feel so rushed and unfinished.

Becuzisaid174d ago

Every time a party member left for a period of time screamed future paid dlc. It was horrible.

Imagine Dagger and Steiner making the party go to sleep in Lindblum in FF9 disc 1 and then taking off to Alexandria by foot themselves, but then never playing their side of the adventure in disc 2 when they smuggle her through the South Gate in pickles, take the cable car and fight the Waltz, head to Treno and start the quest to find Supersoft. They just eventually reunite with the main party in the future without explanation of what went on in their adventure.

Or Sephiroth's backstory in the famous Kalm flashback being added as a dlc pack. Same goes for Vincent, Cid, or Yuffie for that matter.

Oh and anything to do with Jenova, the Ancients, Aerith, her mom and Gast, shoved into a 2 hour CG movie or 5 hour anime ministries that's considered required viewing for anything in the main game to make sense or have characters actually be interesting.

I enjoyed FF15 at the time, and finished it, but it's bright spots are marred by a bad development cycle and a worse marketing scheme.

CrimsonWing69174d ago

What’s sad is when I watched a vid on the entire story (that wasn’t properly told in the actual game)!it was really solid and could’ve been one of the most epic stories in any FF. I think a lot of the compilation and cross-media stuff really f*cked it all up.

gurp175d ago

FFXV was underrated in my opinion
I have played all of the final fantasy games, and I loved this game
turn based to me takes too long, I like active battle
the extra dlc and chapters should have been included in the original release, but it is nice that they fixed the game later

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion427d ago (Edited 427d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled427d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?
