50% of Retailers Holding PS3 Stock

Over 50% of U.S retailers have PlayStation 3's in stock, while Wii is still almost impossible to find, according to a new report from American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy.

His research read, "Our channel checks of 52 retail stores, from boutiques to big-box retailers, showed that 28 of the 52 stores had PS3 consoles in stock, while none had Wii consoles in stock." One retailer had more than 60 units in stock, while most had only a few.

Sony denied that the availability of PS3 means demand for the machine is softening. Spokesman Dave Karraker told Reuters, "It isn't because demand has weakened, it is because we have kept the supply pipeline moving." The company is airlifting 100,000 machines into the country every week.

Sony has ramped up production,Nintendo has'nt.Once all stockpiled Wii's had sold they would make more.Which is probably what Nintendo is doing now.PS3's are still selling out just getting restocked faster.While Wii is also selling out,but restocks are slower.

Thats very simple. Ramped up production? If the last promised targets were met (from 6 to 4 to 2 million promised) there would be even more PS3's sitting on the shelve.

They even didn't met 2 million, but only 1 million shipped @ the end of 2006 in NA. And still not all sold.

What would have happened if they managed to get out 6 million? DAMN imagine all those millions sitting on the shelves... You couldn't enter the shops anymore because the entrance would have been blocked, even giving them away wouldn't even have helped...

Sony's cranking out tons of PS3 yet half of the retailers in North America have no PS3 stock.

I'd say it's selling pretty well considering production is now in full swing and there isn't a reason that 100% of stores can't have PS3's in stock.

...this is a glass half enpty, half full thing.

2 million and counting, bring on Europe and "bang" 3-4 million PS3's sold in just a few months.

my store recieved 16 ps3s about 3 weeks ago. To date we have only sold half of those units. interest is dying down. The only systems my store has had in stock readily are gamecubes, PS3s and Core 360s. We cannot keep any other system in stock due to demand.

Certain areas won't have stock. New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc. Big cities that have enough fanboys living in them to keep it sold out for a while. Everyplace else, though, where the fanboys are fewer and already have theirs, it is sitting. Once the fanboys in the densely populated areas have theirs, they will begin to build up there, too.

maybe where you are but here the gamestop by my house has had the same ps3s in stock for 2 weeks. they said they have sold 2 since christmas but still sell out of wiis and hd-dvd drive for the 360 the day they come in.

The families that i know that their kids own a PS2, and they want a PS3 but it is just too expensive for them to spend for a "toy". These are just comments i have heard from other parents. Even my own wife asked what blu-ray was after seeing a commercial. And she didn't seem to care after i told her.

How many people are willing to spend tons of money on a format that might becaome the next betamax. If your smart you will wait.

I am talking about the average working family, most of which own a PS2. and the majority do not own HDTVs. And are not Fanboys of any system

and R1000, even tho the the world does not revolvearound that user and his friends, it is only one case of millions like this.
Personally, my barber was the biggest PS supporter I knew, and now even he has bought a 360 saying that the PS3 is way overpriced and the graphics are better on the 360. It may be one case, but this case is playing itself all out all over the world making for a HUGE change.

Not only is it more than available online, but just within pretty much walking distance of my house (in Canada) I have found 9 systems as of yesterday. One 20gig and 8 60 gigs. I played the devils advocate and said, "WOW, the PS3 ... I waited in line over night for mine , did you just put them out ??"

Both places replied with "NOPE", they have been sitting here for at about a week and the place with the 60gigs said about two and a half weeks.

So if you REALLY REALLY want one, and have the funds ... I see NO REASON why you would not have one.

I am glad my bro-in-law used it as a profit E-Bay machine and until Sony gets it together this round (if they ever do) I have no interest in owning one.

everyday! It seems as though every PS3 hater comes to the conclusion that because they can find a PS3 that it simply isn't selling! How can anyone automatically come to that conclusion is simple biased and/or hatered,nothing more. I am in no way saying that in each and every case this is untrue, but I will say that to generalize something that has so many different possible answers is ignorant!

Any gamer can come here and make the blanket statement of "I went into ....... store and found ....# of PS3's" who is to say your lying or over exaggerating the facts?

How can we take your word for it? its not like you have taken the time to write down serial numbers and track each and every individual console. Basically what I'm saying is that the statement being used is a generalized opinion, based on unbiased views from fanboys nothing more nothing less. IT'S NOT FACTS if it was you would be able to easily presents us with proof, but you cant!

Fact is: Its not even a month after christmas, people are still catching up on bills after the christmas spending. Seriously it would be hard to sell a glass of ice water in the mojave dessert.

Fact is: No one,not even these big chain stores like Best Buy or EBgames figured Sony could get the production up this fast after all the production problems prior to launch.

Fact is: Not one member on this site has done any research to prove that the PS3 is not selling. Just because that has become the popular opinion does not make it The Truth!

I think a spoiled little brat would be a child who gets something this expensive for christmas. People have the money but can't justify spending that much when Blu-Ray isn't a draw to them and for the same price another system could be bought with multiple games.

what the article says is that 28 out of 52 stores have PS3 in stock.

That statement alone is enough to dispel the "rumors" that the PS3 is not selling!

is that the PS3 isn't selling half as well as anyone expected if it is shipping 100,00 a week they should be selling out or close to out which they are not I mean look at the WII the WII has had way more units shipped and you cannot find it , this should be the same case with PS3 but its not.

Most families can afford the the $250 Wii. That is why they are hard to find. PS3 on the other hand will be available cause you are not going to find people ready to blow $700 on a PS3(After you buy everything you need). I make good money and I want one, but I can't spend that much money right now. I will hahve to save for it. I think this is why the system is not moving as fast. It is not that the system is bad,, it is just that it cost a lot and I understan cause I am getting a Blue-ray player. This is the PS3's format and they are going to stick with it. This console was designed to last 10 years. Look at Microsoft, they have to come out with another system to compete only 2 years after their launch becasue they did not plan for the future. And they make Sony look bad cause they said that HDMI was not needed, but yet they are making the new ones with it cause more t.v.s are coming out with it. Tell me, who is really getting screwed?
