Please, I'm a Nintendo fan but I'm well aware of their flaws. I upgraded from XB1 to Xb1s recently and it was just a matter of resetting the old console and signing in on the new one. Nintendo has no excuse...

ninsigma3079d ago

You're "aware" if a lot Reggie but nothing seems to have been done about it. If all those consumer desires you're aware of are on the way then great, but the full reveal of the switch should have been the time to prove that. Instead we got a great concept for a console that incorporates some very strange decisions. I'm pretty sure no one in those boards you've been looking at have said they want to use their phone to communicate on their console. That just isn't "compelling", as you say.

Quicksand3079d ago

So you sync a Bluetooth headset up to your phone instead of plugging a headset into your controller... big deal. I'll give it a shot. Who knows. Might be better. Can set up games with buddies on my way home from work and be ready as soon as I get in the door.

Goldby3079d ago

We can already do that, a friend and i chat all day through psn messenger, and if we need to use our voice. We move over to doscord. A free app

wonderfulmonkeyman3079d ago

Should we be mad that they did it, or overly critical because of how long it took?
FFS, if no one appreciated it when I did what they wanted, I wouldn't want to cater to them either...

Goldby3079d ago

definitly overly critical.

if they claim to listen to the gamers, abnd want to bring more people under the nintendo umbrella, they need to cater to all gamers, not just the nintendo fans, who were completely fine have the weirdest and restrictive system.

Nintendo fans might not care, but that is one reason that some people chose not to game on nintendo.

guess what, i made water into ice today, should i be applauded for it even tho 100s of millions of people have done it before me? absolutely not. they (nintendo) are the ones who chose to stay behind the times not the gamers,

wonderfulmonkeyman3079d ago (Edited 3079d ago )

@goldby
That's the kind of attitude taken by people who are only looking for reasons to complain.

The bottom line is that this is a good thing; being critical of AN IMPROVEMENT is just asinine.
People need to let the damned past go and be glad they've taken this step at all; it's a far sight better than having never taken it because a vocal minority of ungrateful assholes kept whining no matter what was done.

_-EDMIX-_3079d ago

I'm sorry but people need to take into perspective how slow and incompetent this company is.

You would have to question any Burger restaurant chain in regards to fast food for not having drive-thrus despite building new restaurants every year.

The technology industry moves extremely fast! If Nintendo were to do something like this in the fast-food industry they would most likely be bankrupt because of loss of competition simply because their Rivals would have been catering to their consumers needs over time you're just going to continue to lose market share.

So it is very clear that they've probably lost an Untold amount of market share because of the pure stupidity of their decisions over the last 12 years or so.

Somebody needed to tell them they needed an account system?

That's extremely alarming that they had several platforms that released after the wii that did not include these.

So I guess we're going to wait another 10 years for them to start including third parties into the development of their Hardware so that way all the third party is on board?

Doesn't that make you question all the other mistakes that they're currently making that could have been changed or been amended 10 years ago?

You might be jumping for joy but I have to worry about any fast food restaurant finally adding a drive-thru.

OK

So let's wait another 10 to 15 years to add a dollar menu?

Have you not considered that maybe it might be too late? Some consumers may have already moved on and could care less about adding an account system they might have already permanently left the market.

Ie I'm already addicted to Burger King and McDonald's and checkers and those are my favorites I don't have room for a fourth favorite.

That is what they need to fear because they might have made way too many mistakes to even recruit those consumers.

_-EDMIX-_3079d ago

"That's the kind of attitude taken by people who are only looking for reasons to complain"

???

So do you believe that's the response that Nintendo should give to their consumers?

fenome3079d ago

@wonderfulmonkeyman

Yes, I am choosing to be overly critical about it because back when I had a Wii I spent hundreds of dollars on games for the virtual console and my ex's kids broke it when they pulled the microphone chord too far and it fell off the entertainment system.

I went out and bought a new one and all my games were gone so I called them and they said that there was nothing they could do about it because they were tied to the hardware and not my account. Never bought another one of their products since and haven't regretted it one bit.

conanlifts3079d ago

So just to ask a question. I owned a wii u, it broke and i threw it in the bin. On the wii u i had purchased wii u games and a handful of virtual console games. Is there any way any of these ( virtual console) will work on switch?

GuruStarr783079d ago

If what he's saying is true, then yes. I wouldn't hold my breath, though. Reggie always seems to give "political" answers or statements.

He seems to say what people want to hear, but spins it so it can go either way, in case Nintendo ends up going the other way. Don't get me wrong, I like Reggie. He's a real Nintendo fan at heart. I want this to be true as much as you do, since I owned a launch Wii U and downloaded games to and I'd love to be able to download them on Switch.

Heck, there's a lot of stuff left to be desired from what we know about the Switch. The Online, for one, is laughable from what we know so far. Being paid, and not getting to keep the one NES or Snes game they let you download is crazy. Also, the seemingly dumb idea to have to use a smartphone app to connect with friends for chat is really getting to me too.

Only time will tell..

conanlifts3079d ago (Edited 3079d ago )

Thanks, hopefully that is true. I remember on wii u games were tied to the console when i had it. Hopefully that doesnt affect it, i wouldnt mind access to my digital games again.
The online needs to be very low cost unless they have something great planned. The smart device idea is ridiculous. Nintendo are supposedly family focused, i don't see parents handing over their mobiles etc so their kids can voice chat. The idea is ridiculous. I wonder if it is because when docked switch doesnt support headphones, wirelessly or otherwise.

superchiller3079d ago

Not likely. You can call Nintendo and beg them to restore your games, but without the old console in hand, there are no guarantees that Nintendo will do it. And VC games may not work on the Switch anyway, Nintendo is very slow to port them over.

conanlifts3079d ago (Edited 3079d ago )

That's my concern. The console died after 2 years. I sold the gamepad and threw the console away. The ridiculous thing is they surely still have my purchase history. But yes i remember them being a pain and it not being straight forward even if i had bought a new wii u.

At the time they offered to look at my wii u if i sent it to them. It was $50au just to check it out without doing in any repairs.

_-EDMIX-_3079d ago

@sd- damn that really sucks.

Yeah I'm almost positive they're not going to give you those games back. That's one of the reasons why I never understood them not having a proper account system.

Sony is all-in on PlayStation Plus, says its most expensive tier is thriving

Glad, I’m about to downgrade when they raise the price. For me, I don’t really access much or care about the games they have in the library and if I do, it’d be cheaper to just buy them over time rather than stick to some expensive subscription model.

Alos886m ago

Extra is probably the best value for money right now, Premium doesn't have anything special enough to justify paying the additional imo.

True, they have pretty different audiences..and some People just have both at home or a PS and a PC that emulates more or less everything from Nintendo.

Knightofelemia6d ago

Xbox hasn't been a competitor since the XB360. Last generation and this generation Sony has been running circles around Xbox. As for Sony vs Nintendo Sony runs circles yes but I don't really see Nintendo as competition. Nintendo does their own thing and it works.

Details are important. Console sales yes. Overall games Xbox seems to be doing fairly well in that department.

LoveSpuds5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

MS were doing so well that they had to start selling their games on their main competitors system which in turn results in around 30% of each sale going to Sony as the platform holder.

I do think tjat MS' fortunes will improve now that they are actually selling games rather than giving them away for pennies on the dollar.

Something that occurs to me is that the more success MS published games have elsewhere, the more stark it will become that selling games is much more profitable than renting them. If that becomes highly noticable, I wonder what the shareholders (who ultimately run the show) will make of a service which has stagnated for years?

crazyCoconuts5d ago

PlayStation doesn't compete with third party games, they compete on consoles. They profit from third party games. If you're not comparing consoles there's no point in comparing.

drivxr5d ago

Console wars are over.

Eventually, everyone else will catch up to this fact.

attilayavuzer5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

I think it's all PS fans have left at this point. Console wars were always a competition for fourth place behind Nintendo, PC and mobile. If Xbox evaporates into a hybrid virtual platform, then PS will be perennially left in last place.

Christopher5d ago

Strange, I recall all those FCC documents and witness testimonies saying the exact opposite... Guess Microsoft doesn't know what it's talking about?

PanicMechanic5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Great analysis. Just joking.

Pretending like companies give a f about where they “rank” against each other is just super retarded. This isn’t the World Cup.

Tell me, how does “PC” compete against a brand like PlayStation? It just doesn’t make sense at all. What you just said, is complete and utter nonsense

BlaqMagiq15d ago

I don't think PS cares about being in this so-called "last place" you came up with when they're making profits hand over fist.

microsoft wanted to crush sony into dust and they had the money to do it, but with such weak leadership it was always going to fail

Reaper22_5d ago

Had the money? They still have the money but the industry has changed since xbox 360. Microsoft is the number one publisher in gaming. I'd hardly call that failing.

IRetrouk5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

The industry hasn't changed though, just ms, Microsoft was the no1 publisher for a month in december 2024, the actual no1 for fy2024 was tencent if game sales are all that's being counted.

Profchaos5d ago

Money doesn't mean you'll be successful large corporations have entered and failed before like Nec
