Fils-Aimé Accepts Criticism of Nintendo’s Online Services; Talks Zelda Switch & Wii U Differences

Nintendo executive Reggie Fils-Aimé has said that the company accepts criticism of its previous online offerings and will look to address previous missteps with the launch of the Nintendo Switch's subscription service.

The exec also weighed in on the improvements that the Switch brings to the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Of course Reggie's body isn't ready to adapt to the critisms that consumers are lobbying against Nintendo, unlike how Microsoft bent over backwards trying to fix their mistakes during the months that followed after E3 2013 leading up to the launch of their next console.

Reggie and his company are just becoming like Adam Orth and telling consumers to take all their valid concerns and #DealWithIt.

I always loved nintendo. But I can't buy the switch. Because, they've lost touch with the gamers. They are after new audiences: the casual and mainstream (the same guys who bought the wii). They are trying to replicate what the Wii did, while (successfully) alienating and frustrating their core market.

Personally, I will not be purchasing the switch. Because I am in no need of a home console, that is inferior and is limited and restricted because it is moonligting as a portable device. And I am in no need of a large and bulky portable device that will give me 2.5hrs battery, as I don't take the bus or plane daily (I drive). And I also have a portable device (a high powered smartphone) that does everything (game, movies, music, social media, talk/call, text, browse Web and etc.)

Mrveryodd3080d ago

Well said ... Totally agree with every word

bouzebbal3080d ago (Edited 3080d ago )

there is a difference between accepts criticism and does something about it.
only time will tell but they have a long way to go

_-EDMIX-_3080d ago

Agreed.

I'm having a hard time understanding exactly who this crap is even for.

Too big to be a portable that is used often or casually, extremely inferior in regards to a home console.....

This company might have been better off simply making a slightly smaller device and openly making it known that it was a handheld.

What they have just done was made a larger handheld that they have not marketed it to the handheld community and they would just spend time marketing it as a Home console that's also inferior to the competition while being much more expensive

Nintendo just doesn't get that much stupider than this

bouzebbal3080d ago

"It’s more than just frame rate; literally, it’s the way you move through that environment, and how the environments are fluid. I don’t see pop-ins when I experience the game on Nintendo Switch."

wondering what he would have said if wii u was a success and there is no hearing of switch. he would have used the same words to describe switch for wiiu. pure PR brainwash.

he's taking in past concerns, but are they taking in current concerns? people haven't had the chance to try their online service, the games are temporary, but also and more worrying is it REQUIRED to use a smart device to voice chat and multiplayer? Sure sounds like if you don't have a smartphone, specifically android or iOS, you are out of luck. If you do have to use the app, how do you hear the game audio and voice chat at the same time without disturbing others, hope its not sound in one ear voice in another...?

DC7773080d ago (Edited 3080d ago )

It's not just that either. It's assuming you will have another OS like Wii U, where you are totally disconnected. You won't know if your friends are on, what they are playing, etc.

Maybe some people like that privacy in 2017, but to me it feels old, disconnected, and out of touch.

gamer78043080d ago

Good point. I didn't think about that... surely they could make th software poll who is online on wiiu and update it on the switch. I'm wondering if u can see who's online on either platform without a smartphone.

Glad, I’m about to downgrade when they raise the price. For me, I don’t really access much or care about the games they have in the library and if I do, it’d be cheaper to just buy them over time rather than stick to some expensive subscription model.

When you're new to the service you've got an avalanche of games to play. After you catch up, I agree, it's not worth it beyond the Essential tier for me.
That being said, the Essential tier is the best deal in console gaming imo, based on the monthly games you get to keep.

Alos886h ago

Extra is probably the best value for money right now, Premium doesn't have anything special enough to justify paying the additional imo.

OtterX5h ago

*unless you have a Portal & you catch Premium on discount during Days of Play or Black Friday.

Yea, I really do wish they'd up their effort on Premium titles, but allowing a large catalog of titles that can stream to your Portal without even having to use your PS5 is pretty awesome. We travel about 2 hours to stay with my inlaws from time to time, so it's been pretty killer to only need to take my Portal for that!

andy854h ago

Yup if you have a portal premium is the best tier for sure

jznrpg5h ago

Add some more classics with trophies. Vagrant Story first

OtterX5h ago

Nice choice. I agree!

Jeanne D'Arc was my favorite PS+ catalog title from last year & I Platinumed it!

Eonjay3h ago

I like Ridge Racer, Tekken and Grandia. Add Xenogears, digimon World 3, Classic GTA and ill be happy

jznrpg1h ago

Jeanne D’Arc was great!

@Eonjay there is a Grandia collection available for PS4, I’m not sure if it’s been on plus already or not

darthv725h ago

cloud streaming to the portal, without using the ps5, is the selling point of premium to me.

Obscure_Observer5h ago

If the consumers are happy, Sony is even happier.

It is what it is.
