Actually, Nintendo Have Got It RIGHT With The Switch

Disenchantment has been rife since the underwhelming Nintendo Switch Presentation but, you know what?  I think Nintendo have got the Switch right.

«Nintendo is not competing with Sony or Microsoft. They aren’t even pretending to.»

I think the same. The Switch isnt competing with the PS4 or Xbox One, but with the 3DS and Vita. It will rule the portable market.

Erik73573083d ago

And it seems the portable market could be the biggest market

Goldby3081d ago

if thats the case, why did reggie and nintendo in general state this is a home console first and not a portable?

It is if you live in a bubble and don't notice the many glaring flaws about the platform that are surmounting

I think it's okay but there are several aspects that seem ehhh, a little weird like the use of a phone app for many social features like inviting friends and voice chat.

Goldby3081d ago

Thats DeNA probably, they are most comfortable workign with phoens so they went that route instead of integratign it into your handheld. on the plus side, image what the battery life would be like if the party functions were built into the handheld

Aenea3081d ago

Probably also would've meant they had to reserve part of the memory and CPU time for those tasks.

Still, it's ehmm, different, like I said elsewhere now you also need to have your phone charged on order to play online.

Goldby3081d ago

ya which is a huge turn off for me. just using my phone for basic things, it barely lasts more than a work day, last thing i want to happen is playing a video game witha friend and my phoen dies out on the go and no way to keep chattign with them. cant message them from your phone as the phoen is dead. cant message them from the system as its not possible

It’s definitely an upgrade, not sure about massive.

Grilla5h ago

It is massive compared to the switch 1. 6-10X the power, but compared to current standards it’s the bare minimum.

RedDevils5h ago

It's just a minor upgrade nothing special. Could have included the Oled screen but greedy Nintendo have something planned for it already.

Yesyes4h ago

Oled screen means nothing when people have OLED tv's.

Rage774h ago

You are self aware of how dumb and "sheepy" that tagline of "greedy" sounds like at this point in time, right?
Every little entitled twat on the internet has used it ad nauseum, as if all of a sudden you somehow struck gold or something. it ALMOST sounds as infantile as the other meme vomit brain rot: "Defending the billion dollar company, blah, blah" FFS. tell me its "irony" at least what you are trying to express, so at least i can give you some credit for being "clever" or bold. I refuse to believe you ACTUALLY believe what you are saying, unironically,

repsahj5h ago

Great review! We have almost the same impression of the Switch 2. I don't care if the screen isn't OLED, because when I put it next to my friend's Steam OLED screen, they barely deviated in quality.

anast4h ago

Better than the Steam Deck not as good as the other consoles on the market.

As someone who has been gaming nearly as long as gaming has been around (since the early 70's), you'd think I'd be against this. Having grown up with all the major platforms and the whole notion of physical ownership... but I'm not. i embrace this as it is a revolutionary convenience. And one i know for a fact many (especially here) have not even given the fair chance to use. I get it... i was there too. But now i have a new outlook on it. It really is a hell of an option if you just want to play with no commitments. By no means am i saying this should replace traditional gaming, its an option. And one that people should look at optimistically as a way to compliment traditional gaming. There is room for both to thrive.
