Why Aren’t People Talking More About the PSVR’s Non-Gaming Capabilities?

Pure PlayStation: The technology is amazing but we’re not seeing how truly far it can go. Don’t get me wrong, I still want great games for the peripheral (like RIGS: Mechanized Combat League) but the possibilities for entertainment extend much farther than that.

Sony's focus right now is game content and they and their partners are working on them. It's a game system first and focus should be there first. Secondly, it just came out 2 months ago. Doing those other things with TV, movies, music and shows take time. But Sony has that on lock as they have pull in those areas as a company.

Right now, streaming apps allow you the experience of what the future will be as said in the article. Sony announced what 3D videos are compatible and you can make your own or download them to watch them directly from USB.

It's only a matter of time. As we have seen, Sony is preparing for those things as they already stream movies, music, games and television service like PS Vue. Highly doubt they would not counter companies like Valve/HTC who want to start a streaming service for VR and not have a response from Sony which leads them in content as they make it themselves.

Just like The Walk, you'll see other VR experiences from Sony like Spiderman 360 just like Paramount released Star Trek Discover experience recently. They have to pick the right content though as The Walk for example couldn't release because Sony may have been fearful of falls in gamers houses. Bringing up possible liability. As for being on sets of movies, music and television, etc, some content will be released. But some producers, directors, actors and athletes may not want their technology or downtime shown to the public if it puts them in a bad light or puts out secrets. Even on set, people still enjoy having privacy from the public.Unless they signed contracts before hand allowing it.

Right now, games are what is needed for a new platform that works on a game system. In the future though, yes it will be great to travel, be entertained by music, theater, sports, etc by just putting on a headset. Not as a replacement of the real thing. But something to add on the side as an experience when you can't always be there.

as it stands you can't even watch a 3D movie with the PSVR. That's something they need to address asap if they want to showcase this unit off for anything other than playing games.

Games are their priority though, and right now they need to focus on getting more out.

Vr is not for in the living room. Sold mine cause it's just to much hassle to install it and I got bored pretty quick with it.

I'm with you on VR. This site has been going on and on about psvr for along time before it came out. We were being told how it was the next big thing.
Now it's out we don't seen much news about it and not much about the games to.
For me VR is just another 3d. It's been around for years and company's have lived it back up again to see if they can make it big. I just don't see it.
VR is very good for some things. For gaming racing games and FPS games are what is best for but it's to expensive just for a few games.
People are hitting on the switch at the moment as being to expensive and without cod FIFA and bf it won't sell well for me the people who play them games are not core gamers they are casual gamers and one thing they don't want to do is play a game with something on their head.

The next 12 months will make or break VR but for me I just don't see it being the next big thing.

I disagree. Where else would we use it? If by "Hassle" you mean getting up, plugging in two wires and sitting down, and slapping the headset on your face, I don't see how that's too much work. This stuff is in it's infancy. The problem is expectations are too high right now. People want the Holodeck and they want it today. These products will iterate and in a few years, you'll get closer to what the author imagines. BTW, those promises were actually thrown around quite a bit starting with PS Home with the theatre and sports stuff. And still the tech wasn't ready yet which is why they discontinued that program. I don't sit for hours with the PSVR, but for the stuff I've seen, I was impresses that it works as well as it does right now. Now we have to wait.

Why is it a hastle to install ? u just disconnect the PSVR headset and keep the unit connected ... pretty simple if u want it to be

LMAO, WHAT? Yes the game content is slim for now, but that's how all new platforms start out. i.e PS4 and Xbox One started out the same way PS3 had even less games I believe around 15 games to play for about 6 months. Farpoint will be releasing soon and that will be a great title, a few more games will be launching this year as well... so to sell it so soon is ridiculous you never gave the platform a try. I don't play my PSVR as much, but it's great to play when you turn on your PS4 and don't wanna play any of those games and you look on the edge of the dresser and see the PSVR and then when you put it on you remember how awesome it is then you end up going a few days without playing the PS4 games haha.

Lilrizky2683d ago

I admin a Playstation VR owners page ON FB and that constantly has members posting about non game VR experiences all the time

Thunder_G0d_Bane2683d ago

It's because VR is dead. No one is talking about it.

nwo4life4ever2682d ago

VR isn't dead. i first used a VR headset in 1995, it was the VFX-1. it's just that VR hasn't progressed that much in 22 years even though technology has progressed in leaps and bounds in those 22 years.

People simply aren't talking about psvr all that much.

finally!, being waiting for this game since its announcement some years ago, so many objects on screen using physics running at 60 fps is always mesmerizing to see.

SullysCigar397d ago

Played the demo on PSVR2 - it's trippy as hell!

Knushwood Butt397d ago (Edited 397d ago )

Awesome. I had this on my PS wishlist and was going to buy it Day 1. Seen as I have Extra, now I don't need to!
PSVR2 support too.

Abnor_Mal397d ago

Platformers are not really my thing, but I guess I can try it out on PlusExtra. In VR2 to boot.

fsfsxii397d ago

Finally! been badgering the devs on twitter for awhile now. Demo put me in a trance and i loved it.
