it'll make a splash-- in it's first year then you'll see the plateau flop that Nintendo is oh so famous for.

SourtreeDing3082d ago (Edited 3082d ago )

it does not stand a chance...

how are you gonna make the consumers of the Switch pay for online and not provide enough memory on the console for Patches and DLC? lol cant wait to see how this turns out
it also launches with 3 games.....
i dont see 3rd party supporting this in the long run.... this is them just being nice right now

DOA

CrimsonWing693082d ago

yea but keep in mind brand loyalists. All those who went out and bought a Wii U just because it was a Nintendo console. Don't underestimate what they'll do within the first 2 years. Then you'll see it dying.

Lonnie183082d ago

Right what is 32 gigs now-a-days lol

_-EDMIX-_3082d ago

That became extremely apparent during their presentation it was essentially like a ghost town for major third-party publishers

-Foxtrot3082d ago

A Majikarp makes a splash...but it's never effective

The hardcore gamers will snap it up really quickly and then it will start tumbling again, just like the Wii U. They have already sold out on Amazon. They still have some on Gamestop.com though.

http://www.gamestop.com/nes...

This is normal though. Same thing happened with the Wii U when it first launched.

deadfrag3082d ago

Its going to flop due to price 329 euros and not even a game bundle.Dead on arrival.

Paytaa3082d ago

And people will just rather buy a PS4 or Xbox One. If you're not a fan of any console exclusives but love console gaming then it's either Xbox or Playstation. I mean is vanilla Skyrim REALLY a selling point in 2017?

I had more hope for the Switch but after the reveal, it just seems like the Wii U again with a bit more incentive.

I applaud Nintendo for consistently going unconventional to try something new but I think they should release a console that a lot of people can get on board with and when and if that is successful try and build upon that with what they believe are innovative ideas.

remixx1163082d ago

Exactly, skyrim is a 6 year old game yet it's being treated like such a huge deal.....

XanderZane3082d ago

It was original leaked at a price of $250. I guess that rumor was false after all.

Bennibop3082d ago

The have completely messed this up. High price, poor subscription service, lack of hdd space, only ports launching with the system, underpowered, short battery life and cost of peripherals.

jerethdagryphon3082d ago

Spec wise its on par with a premium phone. I dont know about you but the idea of. Playing skyrim on a 6 inch screen. On trains or bus's doesnt appeal its too weak and not innovative in any way. Other then. Home to mobile better then remote play.

Mykky3082d ago

That phone, I would like to see. At least I have never heard of a phone with the same specs as a slightly better ps3 or 360.

jerethdagryphon3081d ago

As revealed in October, the Switch will use an Nvidia Tegra-based system-on-a-chip (SOC) for its processor

The tegra is a low power mobile chip with specs. Easily visable online and its cpu is arm based. Hence mobile phone. Tech. The lg g5 had 4gb ram an andeno 530gpu which pretty well matches tegra in most aspects and a quad core 2.15ghz snapdragon 820

nitus103082d ago

Actually, 32 GB of storage is fine if all you have on it is the operating system, game saves and DRM codes associated with each game which can reside on external media. If you can use SD cards for external media then to get the best performance you would have to consider class 10 cards which can be quite expensive although not as expensive as proprietary cards.

The only peripheral I would consider the most important is the so-called pro controller and when you add this to the cost of the Switch the overall price is on par with the PS4pro. Somehow the PS4pro looks very attractive considering its performance and features.

The only things the Switch has over the current consoles is the portability of a tablet and first party Nintendo games which for some people is all that they want.

FallenAngel19843082d ago

It stands a better chance than Wii U in 2017

NukaCola3082d ago

Let us see what system sells more copies of Zelda

sk8ofmnd3082d ago

The wiiu version! 😂 if that isnt a tastament of a botched new system i dont know what is.

FallenAngel19843082d ago

How is that going to make Wii U's position in 2017 any better when it nothing else to look forward to afterward

_-EDMIX-_3082d ago

Well... it's also not going to help the switch if you consider one of the biggest titles coming to that platform is already coming to an existing platform.

FallenAngel19843082d ago

Are you really arguing that Wii U, which has no future after BotW and is being disregarded by its own manufacturer in addition to the rest of the industry, still has a better positioning this year than Switch, which still has plenty of other games besides BotW and will be Nintendo's main focus?

I can't believe this is actually a topic of debate?

Fist4achin3082d ago

If it has games, they will come...

Lonnie183082d ago

Nope, it only has 3 legs to stand on, a beast need four! Only Zelda, 1-2 switch, and Arms at lanch!?

mcstorm3082d ago

You sure that's all there is. When I press ordered mine yesterday there were a few 3rd party games to one was fifa

Not sure what games you're playing to average 5 to 6 hours battery. Mariokart World and Zelda gets 2 and a half hours max.

Even the Meta Quest can be an Xbox — Leaked images show an Xbox-branded Quest 3S

Windows Central writes: "CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, had previously been vocally opposed to the idea of a native Xbox headset, stating in 2019 that 'nobody's asking for VR' on Xbox. However, Microsoft's marketing strategy for the Xbox Series X|S generation has shifted with the rise of Xbox Cloud Gaming and the 'This is an Xbox' marketing."

Ah, a contributing factor to Meta dropping PSVR2 support for Beat sabre! Microsoft’s always stuck with the modus operandi of “if you want an original idea steal someone else’s” and try to destroy markets they cannot win in. They are doing to to console gaming and now trying VR!

OtterX1d 1h ago

It's like a rich kid who pays the smart kid to do his homework for him.

*Yea, such a shame about Beat Saber dropping Playstation support btw. :\

DivineHand1257h ago

Why would this deal with Xbox cause meta to end beat Saber support for the psvr2 when the game isn't even available on Xbox?

It is more likely that psvr2 is under performing and they feel it is time to end support. The psvr2 headset only sells whenever there is a sale to make it competitive with the meta headset.

OtterX1d 1h ago

The XBox way. Hardware, even game development companies.... let them do the hard work of building things, throw them some money, then slap an XBox logo on it!

Jin_Sakai1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

Good old fragmentation. Just what Xbox needed.

IRetrouk1d 1h ago

Looks nicer than the standard one

PapaBop22h ago

This is probably nothing more than a branding attempt to show Xbox really is on all platforms. The Quest already has the Xbox Cloud app that supposedly works great. Would be cool if Microsoft actually entered the VR space in a larger capacity but if they was doing that, I imagine they'd have showcased it at their summer showcase.

Vits19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Yeah, it's basically the same idea as the ROG Ally Xbox. Just a regular device that gives you access to the Xbox library and carries the brand, but nothing really special or groundbreaking beyond that. It’s not some custom Xbox hardware, just a repackage of existing tech with a logo and some software perks.

Now, when it comes to VR, Microsoft actually made a pretty serious attempt with something called Windows Mixed Reality. It wasn’t just a headset, they were aiming for an open ecosystem. They had APIs for developers, support baked into Windows, and even tools to convert regular desktop content into VR environments. On paper, it was a solid play. But it never caught on, third part support was half-baked and basically only Samsung headsets were worth anything. After about five years of trying to push it, they gave up and shelved the whole thing.

The bigger issue here is that VR just isn't ready for the mainstream. People love to hype it up, but at the end of the day, it’s a hard sell unless it’s cheap enough to feel like an impulse buy and even when you can do that, you need to support it with software. Making it a extremelly expensive segment for any company, just look at Meta, bleeding literal billions every years trying to get this stuff off the ground, and they are the market leaders.

OptimusDK2h ago

I don’t understand how people don’t understand that this is a huge consumer benefit. When I buy all these hardware component’s I can take my games with me. How many of us have not ended up buying the same game for handheld, vr and console not to mention pc. Stop the clear console war dogs and recognise this is good for consumers.

Japan: Nintendo Switch 2 already outsold lifetime sales of Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Digital Edition

The Nintendo Switch 2 has proved to be a success the world over, however, one nation which is particularly keen on the Nintendo’s latest platform is naturally Japan. Recent sales data has shown that…

yeah nothing is gonna dethrone nintendo in japan, especially if there's a handheld involved.

Wow… Nintendo is champ in Japan, but the speed of sale is remarkable.

Proves that console gaming isn’t dead yet not by a long shot.

gold_drake1d 19h ago

not surprised, the switch is relatively cheap in japan.

I guess the resistance against always online and digital only consoles is BS. The people have voted with their wallets.

NotoriousWhiz1d 17h ago

What are you talking about? Switch 2 is neither always online nor digital only.

DivineHand1251d 15h ago

Nintendo can literally block your Switch 2 console from accessing their online services at any time. When that happens, it becomes a brick. You won't even be able to play those games that use game key cards that are not installed on the console. Some users who have been blocked tried factory resetting their system, and when they tried to boot it up with a new account, they are stuck.

Speaking of game key cards, the majority of third party publishers have opted to use those instead of loading their full game on those cartridges. Imagine having a library of game key card games and going on a long trip but not being able to play a particular game because you need to connect to Nintendo servers to download the game first. It is not like the old days where you just plug in and play.

Game key cards make sense for large games like GTA, Red Dead, or COD, but I don't see why publishers who have games with sizes less than 32 GB need to use that option.

Profchaos1d 13h ago

If you try to mod your system it could get banned from online play like every single system since the ps3 and xbox
