Zelda is completely different each time.

Apart from zelda mario, i haven't seen anything that makes me say "wow this is something Nintendo has never done before". This presentation is very similar to Wii U with almost same software.
Now at lteast the message is clear, it was a disaster at wii u reveal.

Add to that games like Journey, Demon Souls, War hawk last gen and this generation Tomorrow Children, TLG, soon Wild, Dreams, etc and Sony not only continues pushing creativity in software but keeps giving us not just "one!" New IP but many :)

I still say the console would have been better as a stationary $249-299 console. I mean we'd be dealing with 3-4x the graphics, an impressive leap no doubt. That Mario game would look pristine with no aliasing and near-pixar level graphics. Zelda would look way, way nicer. Square-Enix may have put more energy into an RPG that didn't look so gimmicky just because of it's retro design. I will say that Xenoblade 2 looked very good, no aliasing, and the anime style was blended near perfectly with 3D. It really does look amazing and I can't imagine it looking much better. But everything else? I'd be staring at the screen wondering why it looks so bad. Especially something like Mario/Zelda that have awesome elements but just come up short in the graphics department.

I'm probably going to buy, but I'm sadly not even interested in Zelda, and will have to wait for more games and probably a price drop as well. I imagine a $249 regular console with the same showing would have knocked it out of the park. Almost nobody is going to use the "portability" features anyway...

And honestly how "portable" is this thing? It doesn't fit in your pocket, is hard to bring on errands, most aren't going to bring it to school or work or on the bus. It's a joke in that regard. Kids who bring this thing outside are going to break the screen, and it has a measly 3 hour battery life for most games with decent graphics. The portability feature is just plain stupid.

The Nintendo Switch will sell and sell well for at least the first year and if third-party developers come up with new IP not ports of games that are already available for the PS4 and XB1. Without third party support the Switch will probably go the same way as the WiiU although the faithful will buy and defend it.

Console+controller+storage+on line and for some even a lan adapter since it won't have a lan.
$299+70(for a controller 70 dollars?)+50-100(storage)=$419 -469 to use it as a console and then another $50-60 for online = $469-529. Maybe even another $30 for a lan adapter. So for some up to $499-559.

Or you could buy a PS4 Pro for less. Hell that highest price might be a Scorpio price.

Remember PS4 Pro is roughly 28x the raw power of undocked Switch. Scorpio if we round down to 6 TFlops/ 0.147= 40x Switch undocked.

$299 for the power of 2007. It's so weak it can't even run Zelda past 900p when docked. Looks like 30 FPS as well. You won't be playing the AAA 3rd party games. It's a Nintendo box, which can't even run Nintendo games very well for $299 AGAIN. They don't even have enough power to make their own games on Switch run well. They can't even hit 1080/60 with BOTW with their new overpriced system in 2017.

It's competitors, which are much more powerful, cost far less, come with a game, and a controller. Guaranteed 3rd party support.

What is the average person going to buy? Not Switch. It's value is horrible. Absolutely horrible.

The paid online is going to keep alot of people from buying the system. No one want to pay for a online service. But most people are definitely not going to pay for a 2nd one, especially with Nintendo's track record and limited online games. With Sony/XB1 you can say... well I'll be playing CoD, Battlefront, Battlefield, etc, etc, etc. What can you say with Nintendo? Splatoon? Something else? That paid online is literally going to keep people from buying the hardware.

You NEED a pro controller. The joy cons suck, the joy cons put together suck (still small, and the proportion is just off... look at where that right thumbstick is... exactly). It looks uncomfortable as hell. So you'll need $70, yep $70 to buy a decent controller. Forget everything else $299+70 = PS4 Pro territory. Forget the online. Forget the storage. Just needing to buy the controller pushes this right up against PS4 Pro price. Nintendo has lost it's mind.

There's no games. Zelda on Wii U is going to run similar to Switch, and even if not, I'd rather save 400-500 by not buying Switch and getting it on my Wii U.

It's dead Jim. It's a very expensive handheld with almost no games and paid online. So much of that reveal screams those games are 2018 or 2019 so you're going to be waiting a long time for games. Also since Nintendo won't even finish Splatoon until summer and Mario until holiday (and maybe that slips into early 2018), how long will it take for those teams to make another game AFTER that? 2020? First party seems awfully bare. 3rd party is basically non-existent and worse then Wii U. This thing has worse power for the times then the Wii U.

They screwed up. I think people are running for the hills. The negative reactions everywhere are very XB1 like, except it's not about Kinect and all-digital, it's about the lack of games, the horrible price, insane peripheral prices, paid online. It's not an 'angry mob' due to be screwed with, it's an mob of people who think Nintendo is crack whore nuts for what they designed and what they are pricing it at.

PS4 and XB1 simply are massively better values in every conceivable way but portability, and no one cares about portability except a few million Nintendo fans and even many of them are disillusioned with Nintendo after last night.

when i bought a ps4 the launch lineup was so unbelievably weak that the 2 games i ended up buying were COD Ghosts and Killzone shadow Fall. Meanwhile, Ryse: Son of Rome was busy flying off store shelves for xbox one.
The Switch looked great no matter how many times n4g users hit the disagree button. No one can say for certain if it'll be a success and thats fine, but i wouldnt be surprised if 6 months from now this website is littered with articles about the switches success. And even if it werent a success, that would never stop nintendo from making great games for a long period of time. Just stay cool and preorder if you like it.
The one thing that gets you hounded on a site like this is sharing an opinion that people are scared to admit feels true. I think the people here are afraid to admit the switch looked great because theyre so wrapped up in paying more money the same system with a higher resolution.

The reality is ppl were born with free thinking and have different opinions. The other reality is that people were burned by the Wiiu and many (millions) did not buy it for the same reasons they won't buy this one. Nintendo has a big problem of relying too heavily on old IPS and not giving gamers a breathe of fresh air with new ones. They also seem to be always a generation behind in features and hardware. They want to sell their hardware at premium price then use games like old "Skyrim" as center pieces lol I'll pass.

When your 300$ console is a tablet, no thanks. How easy/often am I going to have to replace that screen? The Switch is like a 3 year old wearing a suit. Let's say that was true. The Switch is in a different situation than the PS4 and Xbox One. The Switch is launching against established consoles with established libraries, at the same price. It's going to be a difficult sale at launch. People need to strongly consider I'm purchasing this device for Zelda and for shin Megami tensei along with that new title that sort of looks like Bravely Default in regards to Art Direction.

That would actually mean that I'm purchasing the switch for the exact same reasons that I purchased the 3DS.

I just don't see any reason for someone to purchase the switch that didn't want to purchase the 3DS or Wii U and that is very worrying.

There will also be gamers like myself who have purchased every nintendo console day 1 up to now. Then after the delays and lack of games on the wii u became annoyed. This launch as it stands is looking worse than the wii u launch. All it takes is for mario to be delayed and literally they only have 2-3 great games announced for this year. I don't think it's worth purchasing unless they actually announce a decent and firm list of games with dates. If it turns out to be just zelda this will die a quick death as it will only sell at launch to zelda fans. Plus many will simply stick to the wii u version.

Of course they might announce more launch games over the next week.

Sometimes it's hard to tell with these things but I simply feel that the fad of the novelty of the wii is pretty much over and I don't really believe consumers are looking to dump $300 on fads anymore.

That worked extremely well for the we saw them trying to repackage that same concept that desperately make it seem as if this is similar in my opinion is not only weak but I believe it's difficult to convey such a message like that to millions of people especially after the fact.

They might have been able to make that work really well during its first reveal but I really don't believe something like that is going to be messaged acrossed really well at this point in time.

This is so Nintendo but I believe it is very likely it is going to fail only because I never really got the feeling that this was something that the market can be able to adapt to that previously left at Nintendo this is essentially catering to a lot of the same audience.

You might look at the switch and say to yourself, if all the things that are amazing about the switch right now we're all so amazing about the 3DS or Wii U exactly why did they sell less than their predecessors and why should this sell more?

This looks like it's seriously is just marketing to the same people that were always going to purchase this I saw absolutely nothing that an outside consumer might see that would change their mind about Nintendo.

At this point I'm starting to get the feeling that them simply doing 3DS numbers might be the greatest thing that they could hope for at this point.

Definitely a bit worrisome. This is an extremely dry launch and it seems that Nintendo still hasn't learned.

I seriously believe they should have spent a lot of time purchasing some development teams and reassuring fans that lots of games are going to come because after the disaster is wii u, i don't really believe consumers have that much faith in Nintendo simply trying to pretend that great things are coming in the future.

I think that trust is extremely delicate and it's a dangerous thing to try to leave consumers on as if for them to believe that more is going to be coming because that is something that over time they're going to start seeing is pretty personal but this company is essentially selling them Hardware on faith alone.

Nintendo needs to consider that they're launching the switch with a Zelda title that technically should have come out on the Wii U a long long time ago, so how many games are going to be promised for the switch that only released on something else?

They need to be a little bit more solid and reassuring and I honestly believe them simply being stronger internally and purchasing more teams would assist them in this to show consumers that they indeed have the muscle and support to produce lots of brand new games.

I can't believe that 1 2 Switch and Arms aren't packed in games, last I checked they're both listed as $60 releases, I thought Arms looks like it could be fun for a while, but I can't see many being interested in 1 2.

After Kimishima's chat about Switch releasing in March this year I expected more exclusives, but Zelda is the only real killer app before Splatoon 2 launches and Zelda isn't even an exclusive. Sure the Switch version will likely run better than the Wii U game, but there should be more unique, proper games.

Price is way too high, more than the base PS4 or an XB1-S, two systems offer much bigger libraries and that don't have such ridiculous prices for their accessories.

I have already had a ps4 for 2 years. The switch looks to offer a better second console experience when put up against Xbox one. I hated the wii u, but I'm hyped for the switch. I think the $300 price is so it's seen as a competitor for current gen consoles. If they make it $250, then it's right in line with the OGX1, and likely the X1S by the end of the year. It's just a market psychology thing.

Plus they know there will be enough people in the first half of the year which will pick it up at that price, so why not capitalize on it. It gives them more room to maneuver, should Sony and MS do a price drop by the end of the year.

I really think people are looking at this console in the same light as the dedicated home console market. However, I believe that Nintendo is going for the casual crowd there, and then relying on it's portability to supplant the 3DS, which itself has a pretty significant user base.

Overall, this portable factor actually benefits the home console section of the market, because it means that it will get more games, which the 3DS has never struggled with.

I decided to wake up at 3.50am (UK) to watch the conference as I thought "Nintendo are going to show some amazing stuff this time round, they have too" And I was utterly disappointed, Where were the titles? Where were the details? This is honestly looking like the Wii U again which is really bad for Nintendo's point of view in regards to sales and third party. I don't really want to risk buying a console I hardly know anything about at launch with little to no reassurance if we will actually see enough titles to make the purchase justifiable. I was happy with all the games they announced and they all looked interesting including the concept of switch which I didn't think would implement Wii controls. Honestly Nintendo looked old school and had that classic console feel to them. I'll give you lack of games, but how was it too high? A good reliable tablet cost around $200, but then there's the TV dock and hand controller to consider. Controllers. That have multiple, modular, uses.

The only real issue with it is will how often will the games come and, like most system launches, will have a poor library at launch.

Although it was clever to include features from their previous hardware (Improved rumble & motion sensing) instead of throwing in a new gimmick, it still ultimately makes it yet another gimmicky controller.
They also said this is basically the Wii U 2, with off screen play advertised throughout, as that's the feature they said they carried over to the Switch & the tablet is 720p.
The dock... Is just a charging & TV-in dock.
It only has 32GB of on board storage.

The games were great, but they're still trying to be different with the hardware just for the sake of it.
The only game worth getting on the Switch launch is Zelda (although that's also on the Wii-U), that's it. Aside from that it's a pretty weak launch line up.

Nope, at $300, the only way it's worth it is it has to also come with the Pro controller. Paid subscription will depend on how much improvement is made since Nintendo online service has always been lackluster. Then, there's the 2.5-6 hour range; if it was 4-6, it would be good, but that 2.5 minimum is going to backfire since it's very unlikely you will be able to switch to a bigger 3rd party battery. Also, the price on the peripherals are crazy high. Third-party support from the east seems well, but they need to reach out to more western devs, as the Western market isn't as hype as Japan on portables; they already have their mobiles. The Xbox 1 and PS4 are $300 (Usually, $250-260 most of the time at stores), have a bigger library, and more power. If they drop a sale for the Slim and S the week the Switch is release to say, $200, the portable aspect of the Switch will not be enough to sway most consumer; only the diehard N-heads will be purchasing them.

I'm calling it now...Switch will be the console that you will find the majority of JRPG's on.

Not because it will be popular but because of it being low tech without an emphasis on HD graphics, easy to develop for and cheap to make...something the Japanese market have been doing with mobile for a while now.

Those jrpgs you speak of may sell well to the Japanese market but statistics show Nintendo fans dont buy 3rd partys. All it would take is one year of poor third party sales and gone!

Except a lot of the JRPG's won't be on the more popular console. As you can see there have been a very limited number of JRPG's this gen. Switch just announced/showed at least five for it's release.

It seems the japanese will flock to this system with their content the same way they did with the 3DS which also saw an impressive amount of role playing games.

You say sony site but before i was a member in 2006-2009 when the 360 was the popular console... This was a much different place. Almost all articles were spelling doom for the ps3... Which by most accounts it should have failed like the wiiu but that it did not. The ps3 around launch deserved most of the hate ill agree but them guys at sony really turned things around...

Remember... Majority rules. If the switch was the most popular console youd see high fives and ass slaps for as far as you could see... Thats just not the case. Fight the good fight. Maybe things will get better.

Most gamers (millennials and older) will look at the switch and then think about the next gen (8th gen) console sitting on their shelf and be happier with the exclusives that will play and look better on the xb1 and ps4 (fact). Hell if you were only to look at third partys on other 8th gen consoles (not the wiiu) that make up 95% of games released... Those games MASSIVELY outweigh nintendos 2 or 3 actual 1st party games this year! And to be honest... Whos buying this machine to play third partys? Nintendo fans?? I hope you enjoy your 1st year of 3rd party support 😒

For a second most gamers that love gaming no matter the platform will want to purchase a switch, then they will remember how nintendo bent them over with no lube (wiiu) and rammed a big 300-350$ sausage up their ass with false pretenses of power and third partys that ultimately ended up being an expensive paper weight.

When will Nintendo learn that a gimmick isn't got to win them sales? The original Wii was a fluke.

The people buying the 3/DS aren't doing it for the stylus or the the 3D display, they were doing it for the same reason they bought a Gameboy, a cheap & simple (portable) console experience that phone apps are failing to provide.

If the iPhone came bundled with an add-on gamepad and both Apple & Google started encouraging quality, premium games then the 3DS would've been dead before it arrived.

This is a somewhat expensive portable console with a glorified docking station. This hybrid approach is only going to attract the Nintendo loyalists.

I have to disagree. While I am usually one if the first in line to criticize when Nintendo messes up, I enjoyed every aspect of the presentation; we must understand that it was a Japanese presentation given by Japanese people...it is not going to have the same flair as a Western-produced presentation. As far as content and Switch quality and features, I think they nailed it! I haven't been this excited about a Nintendo console since the GameCube! Yeah, I know GCN didn't so so well, but I really like Switch and just judging by the local GameStop, so do many others. Just hours after the store opened, I purchased the next to last reservation available for the launch consoles. I think Nintendo will do a great job this time....what did people want?
