Nintendo's Wii U and Sega's Saturn were very similar, and both failed. How can Nintendo's next console, the Switch, avoid a fate similar to the Dreamcast?

I don't really see the switch as a replacement for the 3ds. I see it as two different consoles that Nintendo has put forth for two different markets. The 3ds is still family and kid friendly while the little bit of marketing we've seen for the Switch is geared towards millennials on-the-go.

Switch is like a Gameboy and Homeboy than the DS family....Haha.

Skaymore2752d ago

This may be true. Especially considering parents often buy a handheld for each of their children.
Although, even Pokémon is apparently coming to the Switch

FallenAngel19842752d ago

Saturn caused big financial troubles for Sega while Wii U turned a profit for Nintendo. Those consoles are not alike

Skaymore2752d ago

The Wii U itself did not turn a profit for Nintendo I don't think. Nintendo barely profited during the Wii U's life cycle, and that was with 3ds and amiibo among other things bumping the numbers up

Wii U is turning a profit for Nintendo now

I think that they way Switch is getting covered is far superior to Wii U's opening. I felt like no one cared about the U but everyone is hype for the Switch. Aka whoever is on the advertisement committee needs a pay raise haha

We’re never getting an amazing mainline Pokémon game again are we

phoenixwing2h ago

Of course not. That's why I have tem tem because even if it's not the greatest I at least know the indie dev was trying

ZeekQuattro1h ago

Great plug for Tem Tem right there. It's not the greatest but at least they tried.... 🤣

phoenixwing13m ago

@zeek that's right it's as good or better than a pokemon game but they didn't have access to pokemon game money. So it's more of a stain on pokemon company to be in the same ballpark as them

It's time we admit that they were never really that amazing to begin with. The games have never quite reach the same level of awesomeness as the anime. Look at the last few seasons we got to wrap up Ash's adventure, and the new series. 4 lazy Switch games and a remake which was so low effort that you wouldn't be able to tell it's a remake if your weren't told beforehand. The concept of Pokemon will always be awesome, but man the games absolutely suck.
