The 10 Best Resident Evil Games of All Time

The Resident Evil series is unarguably a hugely influential series in gaming history. Largely credited with establishing the survival horror template, and creating numerous iconic characters and moments. And that's just installments 1-3. Resi 4 then went on to pretty much establish third person action as we know it. And there's Resident Evil 7 on the way which looks set to start a whole new chapter in first person and VR.

i see original RE 1 9th ...then i see RE4 first... s$#t list by default

hey incompetent author .......original RE1 is unsurpassed not because nostalgia or because it was first there but because pure quality ...learn what matters as quality in a game then make a comparison list

DarkOcelet2811d ago

And Resident Evil 4 wasn't quality?

Besides, it's his opinion really so if he want to put it at no.1 then it's his choice.

Also I adore Resi 1 and 4, you will be surprised when I tell you neither Resi 1 nor 4 are my no. 1. My favorite Resi definitely has to be Outbreak File 2. And while it got bad reviews and didn't sell very well, it's still my favorite in the series.

What am trying to say that each person has his/her opinion on what is their favorite game so let them choose what they want.

i agree about Outbreak 2.... was an excellent RE (Outbreak1 also.. i consider them 2nd or 3rd best RE ) ...but they were good because of the same reason....... they were made very similar on purpose to the original RE1 .....note that REOutbreaks created form left overs of very early RE 2 concepts (they are the true RE 1,5 if you like).... back then (before Kamiya take over) the game was designed to be more of a true sequel to RE1 with the same pace of action and puzzles/atmosphere rather than the more action packed title that RE2 ended up being under the direction of Kamiya.....

as for RE4 maybe i expressed it wrong because of my english..... RE 4 is indeed a quality title but is not at all a RE, shouldnt bear the name ...i m referring also to the other entries which have not any quality

The original obviously deserves huge credit, firstly for being a great game in its own right but also for setting the foundation after that however the games began to go downhill, RE4, while heavy changed was the most critically successful and kept the brand at the forefront of the genre.

Each to their own as to what they prefer. But RE4 was a make or break game for the series and they hit it out the park.

I still say RE2 was the best. The music did its job so much better (seriously. The save room theme, Sanctuary, was just so darn eerie and unsettling, yet felt like a reprieve). Add to the fact that the monsters, corridors, and Mr. X himself were integral elements and whoa.

A creepy mansion is one thing. It was made so much more creepy in RE2 with the use of a police station setting. You'd think of it as a safe haven of sorts. Nope.

REmake is fantastic, but 2 is still king in my opinion.

How is Resident Evil Revelations not on this list

To me, RE1 and 2 were the best. RE5 is making me crack up the minute I think about it.

Resident Evil 2 is the best in the series! And i cant wait to play RE 2 Remake!

Oh look. Another "by the numbers" top 10 RE list. *yawn* How exciting.

Fantastic homage to a memorable part of the original. The authenticity to the source material is outstanding and blows away all of the pathetic Hollywood adaptations that we've had to endure as fans. The addition of Chris Redfield's original actor AND (separate) voice actor is fantastic! Heck, even the CGI was pretty good given the total budget of $55k to make this.

Yeah this seemed so much more like cannon to me. I’d watch more of it if / when it’s available.

I feel like they should have included the original games with the remakes they've been doing.
