Meh, Ark is a buggy frame dropping mess, can't even reach a solid frame rate at a sub 720p resolution on any console and they think they can get it to a state where it can be run in VR? Sure!
Also, due to the slightly higher resolution of the supposedly compatible VR headsets, Scorpio needs to render 25% more pixels per frame, also due to the locked framerate of 90 fps while PSVR can do 60/90/120fps (where 60 will be extrapolated to 120) it also means Scorpio needs to render 50% more frames per second, totalling 87.5% more data to render PER SECOND.
For Scorpio to compete with PSVR on the PS4 Pro, MS will have to make their own VR headset or partner with someone else's for which they can do the extrapolation thing as well from at least 60fps (and not 45fps as the Rift can do these days).
But in any case I don't see Ark run well in VR on any platform!
They've got to work on optimising the game as is before worrying about VR.
Definitely expect VR on Scorpio. Of course it's powerful enough. It'll be the most powerful gaming console ever this year.
It goes in line with the cheaper VR headsets that Microsoft unveiled earlier too. Expect more open ended support.
I have a feeling they'll go hard on VR support but ultimately, it needs the games.
Whilst Sony's efforts are more admirable as they actually made their own bespoke hardware for VR, as time goes on, I think MS' wait and see approach with VR seems to make more and more sense.
I'm not seeing masses of hype for VR atm. It's still early days. It takes one big killer app to change all that and I sense that it's coming.
But the funny thing is, MS' tagine, 'no one gets left behind' is obviously nonsense here because the X1 owners will be left behind right from the start as the console isn't even capable of doing VR.
