Capcom's intention with the upcoming Mega Man 9 is to mirror what made Mega Man 2 such a success -- and to emphasize the point, they've positioned this Virtual Console release of the game as a lead-in to the new title's WiiWare debut. The company's marketing tactics are sound here, as there's no better way to get yourself ready for Mega Man's next great adventure than by experiencing his greatest past quest. Let's also hope that strong sales of this, the first Mega Man that came to the VC last month and Mega Man 9 all together will encourage Capcom to continue to support Nintendo's retro download service with more of the Blue Bomber's past adventures.

This week Fred goes solo to celebrate Doom‘s 20th Anniversary and the Mega Man series. Keji Inafune’s legacy may live on through Mighty Number 9, but when he was a young new college grad Capcom employed him to create one of the most beloved and long running franchises of the company’s history.
Peter Tieryas continues his vidcasts of Favorite Game Levels by covering Mega Man 2. For many gamers, their first glimpse of the cinematic potentials of gaming was from the opening movie in Mega Man 2. There were eight full levels with wickedly creative game design and fantastic anime styled art to create a unique look. Even more amazing is that the developers had to work on the game on their own time because the first Mega Man didn't meet financial expectations. Unable to choose just one level, he covers both Air Man and Bubble Man.
This gaming generation will be known for quite a few things. One of them will be the resurgence and interest in retro gaming; an idea Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft took an interest in. Gamers saw remakes, ports, and other forms of retro games from the past make it to their favorite consoles. The big question is which one of them handled retro gaming better this generation?
Depends on what you mean by retro. If you mean actual old games nintendo won. If you mean old school style games MS won.
The best Megaman made.
