Koudelka - A Butt-Ugly PSOne Horror RPG with an AMAZING Storyline - GamingRebellion

Sacnoth’s oft-forgotten PSOne Shadow Hearts precursor is both rich in storytelling and poor in gameplay. Koudelka presents a gothic victorian-age ghost story unraveled by the reluctant cooperation of three unlikely companions: a Romani psychic, a callous priest, and a wayward aristocrat.

I could never finish this f**** game. If you missed an important item and you can't go back.... RIP.

This game had its charms. Though, as mentioned elsewhere here, there was that problem of missing one key item resulting in your current save game being unable to be completed. Otherwise, it was a nice mix of RPG and horror elements with a few neat ideas they tried with it.

Pushed the PS1 to the limits really, which is part of the reason it plays so slow. Constant background loading masked by long, drawn out animations in most cases.

Butt ugly? I must be in the minority when I say older games are beautiful. Good luck ever playing classics like the older Final Fantasies if you think this is ugly.

oh i liked this game. But i totally forgot about it. I loved the graphics back then, no way of beeing ugly.

Loved this game! This along with Vangrant Story, Vandal Hearts 1 & 2 along with about 20 other of my PS1 games were lost in a fire. I've been meaning to get around to rebuying them, as my collection feels incomplete without them.

It's a prequel(or rather a Precursor and takes place in the same Universe) to the Shadow Hearts series, so anyone that liked RE and Shadow Hearts will probably enjoy this game, if they ever get a chance to play it.

Man that sux, sorry for your loss. I picked this up at a flea market along time ago and it was one of those impulse buys, no regrets its a really great game.

pretty underrated IMO and to believe this was a prequel to Shadow Hearts published by SNK, you heard that right, SNK!

Started playing this again quite recently.
I'm up to disc two and loving it so far.
The voice acting is actually really quite good for it's time and you can tell it's made by the people who did Shadow Hearts with all of the creepy enemies.
We can't even get a decent horror game these days let alone a horror JRPG. Those were the days!

RPG Treasure Chest: Koudelka

(Editor’s Note: With the game industry being populated with so many RPGs, it’s easy to lose sight of the hidden gems. Enter the RPG Treasure Chest, where we focus on those titles that deserve more attention.)

"The Shadow Hearts series as a whole can be be described as what would happen if the cast of Downton Abbey got drunk with H.P. Lovecraft after marathoning Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. And yes, that is a totally accurate description of this series.

The game is one of the more underrated and under-the-radar PlayStation 2 RPGs out there, having been created by an ex-Squaresoft employee who was tired of seeing the potential of the JRPG fall into a pattern of “safe clichés.”

Taking a unique approach to RPG gameplay and storytelling, Shadow Hearts remains one of the best RPGs that nobody has ever played. It is criminally underrated and one hell of a good time. As I consider it one of my favorite game series, I plan on examining all four titles. Today I focus on the 1999 PS1 RP...
