No, it shouldn't have been a spinoff or reboot, says Capcom.

I don't think he should have to at this point.

Paying attention to everything we know about the game so far, it's clear it has story ties, signature gameplay ties and is about as much of a perspective and gameplay overhaul as Resident Evil 4 is and was.

Kakashi Hatake3090d ago

Very true, don't understand people that are not embracing the change of 7. The series needed it very much after RE 5 and 6.

DigitalRaptor3090d ago (Edited 3090d ago )

Yeah. Everything I've seen, whether it be the environments, enemy types, story, weapons, characters, exploration, gameplay all seem deeply rooted in old school Resident Evil. The perspective shift is probably the main thing throwing some people off.

Some are calling it an "Outlast clone", and some people I've heard claim that they're not buying it because it's first-person (which could be legit for those that suffer from motion sickness). I think some people just prefer to see the character they're playing as, and some are just ignorant.

AntiZeal0t3090d ago

To an extent, I can understand not liking it, but after 6 you think fans would be willing to try anything. I've been a fan since the beginning and everything points to this game being an evolution to the series like 4 was in 2005, but maybe even more "RE" oriented.

Melankolis3090d ago

Very true.....you don't understand at all...
Not that we hate the games.
But some people (like me) getting nauseous when playing a 1st person view games. And now our Resident Evil we've loved for 20 years suddenly become a game we can't play anymore....

TalesofEvil3089d ago

Why the disagrees for this site is the most biased website ever. This is the only website ive seen to hate this game apparently its full of crybabies.

AntiZeal0t3089d ago

@Melankolis I feel for you and if you haven't tried the demo, I urge you to at least give it a shot. While in first person, it moves very slowly. It might not be as bad as typical first person games.

CorndogBurglar3089d ago

@ DigitalRaptor

For some reason that whole "Outlast Clone" comment bothers me the most. I think its because of the amount of ignorance that it takes to call this a clone of Outlast.

If anyone has spent even 5 minutes reading up on RE7 they would know its absolutely NOTHING like Outlast. Its just people seeing the first person perspective and instantly writing the game off.

This is clearly the closest thing to the original RE games we've had in a very long time. Sure its first person, but everything else is straight out of RE. I just don't get people sometimes.

Because it's not a reboot I would guess, but a new direction they plan to carry forward. Hell, they numbered the last 2. If anything, I'd call it Resident Evil 56, the Fix! And banish the last 2 from cannon lol!

ninja Gaiden being released 8 days apart is insane MS hasn't learned anything with shoulder to shoulder releases. October 29 for Outer Worlds and October 21 for Ninja Gaiden. These games now range from 60 to 80$. Yalls audience might GP it but other platforms have to buy it and your average person won't shell out that kinda money a week apart.

franwex18h ago

Aren’t those games made for different audiences though?

Lightning7710h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Yes but what if you want both?

Not everyone can buy both.

Reaper22_17h ago

Well, you dont have to buy it. Noone is making gamers buy it a week apart. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Lightning7710h ago

You want another Doom The Dark Ages scenario? I'm surprised Oblivion and Expedition 33 did well with a simultaneous release. Clearly that fatigue was definitely felt with Doom.

They need at least 2 weeks apart.

coolbeans12h ago

You're talking about a first-person RPG and a third-person action game though. So, it's a bit different than EA putting Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 back-to-back.

I count 7 original multiplatform IPs, which were ultimately bought and are now published by Microsoft.

Sigh.

If you look closer again, then you'll notice that I, at any point, didn't even mentioned the adjective "bad".

But you.

Lightning778h ago

The "sigh" means your displeased. Don't make excuses why is it bad?

dveio8h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Nope, 'displeased' ain't the feeling I had when reading that article.

But speaking of pleasure:

Are you personally pleased with that line-up Xbox have in store for you in the Series' fifth year?

Edit: I didn't downvote you.

Inside the ‘Dragon Age’ Debacle That Gutted EA’s BioWare Studio

The latest game in BioWare’s fantasy role-playing series went through ten years of development turmoil

In early November, on the eve of the crucial holiday shopping season, staffers at the video-game studio BioWare were feeling optimistic. After an excruciating development cycle, they had finally released their latest game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and the early reception was largely positive. The role-playing game was topping sales charts on Steam, and solid, if not spectacular, reviews were rolling in.

HyperMoused4d ago

Its easy they called the die hard fans people in their nerd caves who will buy anything and then went woke to reach modern audiences....insulting the nerds in their caves along the way showing utter contempt for their fan base. very hapy it failed and any company who insults their fan base and treat their customers with contempt and insults, in future, i also hope fail.

neutralgamer19924d ago

It’s disappointing but not surprising to see what's happening with Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the broader situation at BioWare. The layoffs are tragic — no one wants to see talented developers lose their jobs. But when studios repeatedly create games that alienate their own fanbase, outcomes like this become unfortunately predictable.

There’s a pattern we’re seeing far too often: beloved franchises are revived, only to be reshaped into something almost unrecognizable. Changes are made that no one asked for, often at the expense of what originally made these games special. Then, when long-time fans express concern or lose interest, they’re told, “This game might not be for you.” But when those same fans heed that advice and don’t buy the game, suddenly they're labeled as toxic, sexist, bigoted, or worse.

Let’s be clear: the overwhelming majority of gamers have no issue with diversity, LGBTQ+ representation, or strong female leads. In fact, some of the most iconic characters in gaming — like Aloy, Ellie, or FemShep — are proof that inclusivity and excellent storytelling can and do go hand in hand. The issue arises when diversity feels performative, forced, or disconnected from the narrative — when characters or themes are inserted not to serve the story, but to satisfy a corporate DEI checklist. Audiences can tell the difference.

When studios chase approval from a vocal minority that often doesn’t even buy games — while simultaneously dismissing loyal fans who actually do — they risk not just the success of individual titles, but the health of their entire studio. Telling your core customers “don’t buy it if you don’t like it” is not a viable business strategy. Because guess what? Many of us won’t. And when the game fails commercially, blaming those very fans for not supporting it is both unfair and self-defeating.

Gamers aren’t asking for less diversity or less progress. We’re asking for better writing, thoughtful character development, and a respect for the franchises we’ve supported for decades. When you give people great games that speak to them — whether they’re old fans or new players — they will show up. But if you keep making games for people who don’t play them, don’t be surprised when those who do stop showing up

Armaggedon3d ago

I thought the writing and character development were fine. Sometimes things just dont resonate with people.
