Yeah, overheat. (actually, it happens so it DOESN't overheat). I had mine sitting on a glass table top, got hot as $hit. I thought the flatness of the surface would be sufficient for good ventilation, but the surface just got way to warm.

For our common problem, i am almost sure that it is a HDCP handshake issue. I am testing now with HDMI Link turned off. So far, no problem.

Meh opinions. I think the xbox one is still best. That's coming from a guy who owns a 4k tv which means I should probably have a pro. But I just don't care for the og ps4 enough to upgrade. I probably will eventually. Before you jump on the Xbox fanboy bandwagon I'm really not. Xbox has had its short comings. I personally don't think kinect is one of them. I use it all the time even if it's just voice commands. They're both great systems but because xbox isn't selling like they want it to it gets way more updates and changes because they're listening to consumers more. So that's nice.

so when scorpio comes out are you going to tell ps4 pro owners they are stuck with checkerboard rendering and not getting true 4k? i think we all know the answer.

mark cerny did not want to make the ps4 pro have an advantage in many areas over the regular ps4, including ram. they also dont want to allow an advantage in multiplayer so if the ps4 is locked at 30fps they dont want ps4 pro owners to play at 60fps. they are also locking the system to run older titles the exact same cpu speeds unless they get patched by the devbeloper. that means 1,200 plus games will not receive any benfits at all on the ps4 pro. there is a lot of restrictions including psvr where developers are also not allowed to create ps4 pro only titles.

so you essentially will have about 3 years of games where ps4 pro owners hope the developers take advantage of the new hardware until the ps5 probably comes out.

So Forza Horizon 3, or Scalebound, or the MP of Crackdown 3 is locked at 30fps on vanilla XB1 then it's locked at 30fps on Scorpio.

I bought the Panasonic Tc-58dx800, and the one S games like Ff15, FH3 and Gears 4 with HDR pop, so I imagine the Pro would do some amazing things, even though most games are upscaling on that one as well (obviously from higher resolutions or using checkerboard). If I played more PS4 games I'd pay the $279 it would cost me to upgrade my OG PS4 to the Pro. I still might, but I'm undecided right now.

I have a 4k tv and to be honest i would rather scorpio stick to 1440p-1800p and focused on fps and graphical assets. There is way too much focus on resolution.
The same with ps4 pro, having extra effects at 1080p is quite beneficial and a great move.

I'm fine with checkerboard rendering - better than waiting for the next console cycle to start. No matter how you slice it, there will always be a bottle neck on the complexity of the game unless utilized well by the dev. A great example would be Ark. The game is releasing soon but yet, it looks and runs terrible regardless what platform you have.
I'm glad the Pro exist to keep me satisfied until the next gen arrives.

It is a shame though that Sony is marketing the PSPro to gamers as some sort of huge upgrade when the actual specs are not the big or different from the original vanilla PS4.

What I find funny is that most of the people complaining about the system, don't even have a 4k TV to begin with to see the most benefits.

I'm actually excited to see what developers can do with it once they get used to developing for it. You know like every other console has had to go through in the history of consoles.

People are really judging a system's performance after being out for a little over month. It's stupid to do this on ANY CONSOLE. Every system has bottlenecks. The Pro has them, the Switch will, and so will the Almighty Powerful Beastly Scorpio.

What really confuses me is that it seems that people conveniently lose their memory whenever a new console come out. It always works the same. Games that 1st come out are rushed and don't use close to what the system is capable of. As tools are matured and developers find out new tricks and techniques, the games become much better looking and performing. Same cycle every freaking generation yet people continue to do the same sh!t every single time. Wtf. Why do I even waste my time commenting on this crap? If people don't own a PS4 and they want one, then there are 2 options. What's so bad about that. Everyone knows the original PS4 will play every single game for the entirety of the PS4pro's life-cycle. You're trying to create an issue when there just isn't one...

This is not like 720p or 900p stuff here. 1080 and up is fine. In future devs can do what they want with the extra juice. I know you don't own one, but I'm honestly telling you, us playstation fans don't really need native 4k. We just don't. I've got a 75" UHD 4k HDR TV, all the native 4k looks great and so does HDR, but really, we just need anti-aliasing and things like that. For the NIOH game, i will choose 1080p 60 fps over the native 4k option. That's just an exsample.

I have a PS4 pro, and a Sony 4K tv. I was playing tomb raider and switching from 4K to 1080 in the options menu and I swear it's a huge difference. While your in the menu there is a screenshot still up in the background. When you switch setting you can see it change in real time. If you are more then ten feet away you won't notice much but it really is running in a way higher resolution.

4K or 2190p is a huge step in image resolution over 1080p and having HDR aides the image quality. However, gameplay has always been more important than image resolution or quality although better graphics can add to the enjoyment.

I have never understood the reasoning for deliberately pixilated new games for the so-called retro look, I have always preferred using emulators to improve the smoothness of older games which would look pixelated on modern day large screen displays. Pixelated games IMHO detract from the gameplay although you can fix allot of the problems by playing on a small screen that were the norm over 20 years ago.

It is going to be interesting when 8K displays start to become affordable in 2 to 5 years. 8K is commercially available now but they are very expensive. I am looking forward to the comments then. 😉

The funny thing is gonna be when people seeing 4k for the 1st time realize that it is not anywhere near as big a jump as standard definition to HD. HDR done right makes a way bigger visual difference than just native 4k. Unless Microsoft or sony allows developers to put actual 4k textures and build games exclusively from the ground up for the system, the difference is a bit sharper but negligible. In all honesty I'd rather focus on 60fps at a dynamic res with hdr rather than just the resolution push.

Developers already do this, we already know the Pro has several bottlenecks which will keep a game like The Order or Killzone running at native 4k, we KNOW this. We also know that the 4k checkerboarding works very well as an upscaling technique, even on just normal upscaling in Titanfall 2 or BF1 the bump in resolution is palpable, especially on a 4k display.

The PS4pro has the same Bluray drive as the PS4 which means you can still play HD movies and load PS4 game media. As for having a 4K or UHD Bluray drive, that has nothing to do with games and the Playstation brand has always been about games.

So if the 4K UHD drive is important to you then I guess the Scorpio which will most likely have one and will predominately be used to play UHD Bluray movies (costing 50% to 100% more than the standard HD Bluray) since any games you get will be either digitally downloaded or on HD Bluray media.

As for the Scorpio, enjoy your 8 to 11 month wait.

Blame the developers not the machine since a poor craftsman always blames his tools. If you look at some PC games that can run at 60fps you will find that many can easily run on older hardware that have less performance than the current consoles.

Many PS4 games I buy run at a fairly constant 30 fps and I even have some that run at a constant 60 fps. Maybe you just aren't playing the right games.

It looks very beautiful. Especially when it's done right, right now infamous first light and forza horizon 3 are the best versions of HDR done right imo. I have the samsung ks8500.
