Producer Naoki Yoshida has taken to the forums to discuss the impact and assumptions around Final Fantasy XIV Jump Potions.
You’ve saved Eorzea in Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn and resolved a centuries’ old conflict with the dragons in Heavensward… what’s next for the Warrior of Light?
It’s time to head to the Far East. It’s time for Stormblood. And from now until May 8, 2023, this massive expansion is completely free for players who own or buy the Final Fantasy XIV Online Starter Edition!
After 2 long years, we finally have a release window for Final Fantasy XVI. But the names behind the title, are probably largely unknown outside of the Final Fantasy XIV bubble. So allow us to introduce you to the team of Final Fantasy XVI and why you should be excited!
That's like saying Cyberpunk was automatically in good hands because the Witcher 3 was amazing and GOTY
Each new project is a a blank slate, always expect the unexpected, not everything is going to be good because the last thing the team did was.
Things are looking good. But really, we should all wait til we play it ourselves to tell if it's a good game. Ffs (not including the mmos) been needing a big W in a very long time. The remake of ff7 although good, wasn't anything amazing.
Yoshi-p did amazing with 14 but it doesn't mean they can do amazing with a sp mainline ff game.
Final Fantasy XIV Online: Heavensward & Final Fantasy XIV Online: Stormblood begins the mid-game ramp of enjoyment and challenge that make a great game.
Sad to see them go down this route, FF14 was one of the few MMOs remaining (if not the only one) that has a decent playerbase that so far didn't sacrifice the game's integrity for profit.
So they basically followed after World of Warcraft experienced success when Blizzard introduced leveling potions to quickly get characters ready for the latest expansion. Not a terrible idea, and if it can remove some of the grind, I don't see much of an issue. I do think that experiencing one character to max level once could be a good requirement though, as even if the argument is made that it will mostly be experienced MMORPG players using these leveling potions, it doesn't change that there will be a distinct lack of understanding about many of the secondary game mechanics and that there will be a lot of inexperienced players trying to group up for end game content.
It's a double edged sword made both out of a desire for money, and to invite all types of players to the game. I can see why long time players may find these potions annoying and cheap, but if it increases the active player base in the long term, all of those that stick around will eventually learn what they would have learned while leveling manually. Plus, long time players that don't have the desire to level a class from scratch may feel incentive to try other characters and classes if they can just jump up to the same place as the character they poured hours into just leveling.
In the end, these types of fast leveling items are a natural progression in a long term MMORPG titles. Keeping a game viable as it costs increasingly large numbers of hours to reach max level and join everyone else as a new player is tricky, and instant leveling is the best way to get hesitant players to jump in and older players to get more active, even if it doesn't come with more than a few potential negatives.
If this does happen, it won't be for a while.
I am not completely opposed to it, but wonder how much these will cost.
