2016 – A Year of Re-Releases

This console generation has seen the largest number of re-released games ever. What began as a minor trickle of older Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 titles being released again for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in 2014 has since erupted into a torrent of classic (and some not-so-classic) games being released in 2016, with no signs of it stopping anytime soon.

That is the nature of the 8th gen. Taking something old and making it new again. And it seems to be working, just look at that NES classic.

This gen has also saw 2 platforms that are easy to program for and transfer games over to.

We always had ports and re-releases. We are seeing MORE simply because last gen, PC indies didn't really have much place with PS or XB, XB being sorta the best home for those titles with Limbo, Braid etc.

We now have 2 platforms that are 100% open to that type of publishing, so you are seeing small teams port lots of their titles from last gen over to this gen simply because its still actually new to PS and XB gamers.

Reality is.....they didn't play Super Meat Boy, Might be old to PC gamers, but its still a new game to PS users. That goes for many PC re-releases on PS and XB, like Amnesia.

I regards to remasters of PS3 or 360 titles put on PS4 and XONE.....that isn't new, not even slightly.

Unless they've forgotten all the PSN PS1 and PS2 classics along with all the XB games on XBL.

Its almost a joke how uneducated some gamers are on the subject. I'm not even sure in regards to ports or remasters that this would be the "most".

Last gen we got DMC collection, God Of War collection, Splinter Cell Collection, Prince Of Persia collection, Ratchet, Jak, Sly just to name a few.

Lots of the same publishers that ported last gen......are porting this gen. That really isn't news....(well to those too young to know that I guess)

I like the Ezio trilogy and the ME trilogy but I also love the Xenosaga trilogy and Ar Tonelico trilogy.

My personal favorites would be the GoW trilogy (both Gears & God), the original halo trilogy, Streets of Rage trilogy, Super Star Wars trilogy, Metroid Prime trilogy

Rebel_Scum96d ago

hmm SoR as a trilogy is not that good. 1 & 2 were great but 3 was the drizzling shits.

Xenosaga! I’d say games like Suikoden or Ys but they went beyond three games.

Resident Evil og trilogy, Silent Hill ...

Charlieboy33396d ago

How can you make a list like this and not have Uncharted?

AlphaKennyTime96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

I want to say it's because it has more than 3 games by the same dev team, but they included GTA so I don't know. You make a fair point.
