I guess I have been living under a rock then because I will be playing Rez Infinite for the first time this holiday after finals, in VR. I feel blessed.

Nicaragua3124d ago

Its amazing. The new area that unlocks after you beat the game is one of the most psychadelic things i have ever seen.

Babadook73123d ago

Rez Infinite gets better and better each level. Area X opens later and is like a current gen remake just for vr. It's quite impressive in many ways. Enjoy.

Thunder_G0d_Bane3124d ago

Problem with VR is its not intuitive and rather inconvenient for gaming. Having to set up the headset and making space in your room to play isnt easier than just picking up your controller. Thats why this will never be mainstream and will stay relegated to being a niche product.

Maybe in the future when its not such a solo experience and technology has grown... Have friends over but only one person at a time can experience the fun? This isn't very fun...

I tihkn VR should just focus on providing experiences like Planet Earth in VR feeling like your right there next to the animals for example. Deep sea dives etc using real life.

UltraNova3124d ago

Online/mp games prove you are wrong. Split screen died along with any social video game fun and almost no one noticed. VR has arrived at the best possible moment actually, when people love playing alone or with others online. VR needs more MP AAA games and better hardware(wireless, 4K).

C-H-E-F3124d ago

I doubt he has the VR saying everything he is saying. That's crazy talk, the home console was a niche product at one point in time, all it takes for you to become mainstream is for consumers to back it. For example Blu-ray vs HD-DVD, they were both niche, yet Blu-ray became mainstream because consumers backed it buy buying the players, playstation console and other blu-ray content. Same will happen with VR when the consumer backs it. Everything is niche until the consumer makes it mainstream.

Death3124d ago

I agree that VR is going to stay a niche product, but not for the reason you listed. The immersion is worth the 30 seconds it takes to strap the helmet on. The issue I see with VR is the limitations as far as what games work with VR. You aren't going to be playing many games like COD in VR, but games where the player is sitting or standing stationary will excel. I'm not sure how many big developers will target the platform since there is a much larger audience with traditional gaming. I believe VR will be used as supplemental material in bigger games, but supported mostly by indie developers with smaller games.

Thunder_G0d_Bane3124d ago

Totally agree. VR is not going to work with games like Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Red Dead 2 or Battlefield.

Thats the problem key titles won't ever work for VR, and like you said a game where you stand stationery is not gonna be much of a game experience. so ultimately VR will never be mainstream and is NOT the future of gaming.

JackBNimble3124d ago (Edited 3124d ago )

You know there is a VR Dlc with COD which means the engine has been upgraded to support Psvr.
Battlefront has a Psvr Dlc also and I know dice have upgraded the engine to support VR.

No one said these AAA games will be VR exclusive but that doesn't mean they can't support VR as well. Just look at Ace combat 7, that won't be VR exclusive but it will support it.

It really seems like Psvr scares alot of you gamers when in fact it shouldn't. I don't see why VR can't coexist with traditional gaming.

yeahokwhatever3124d ago

I would like to see games like COD in 3D, where VR might not work. At least give people the chance to play the action in 3D.

wsoutlaw873123d ago

there is no reason why there wouldnt be cod vr. I dont get what you are trying to say. you can play vr with a controller.

S2Killinit3123d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

I'm enjoying the heck out of my PSVR. It's awesome.

It's got to be experienced. And I mean it when I say "experienced".

Looking forward to Farpoint, RE7, and Ace Combat 7.

Death3122d ago (Edited 3122d ago )

@S2,

I agree completely. I was blown away after I bought it and tried it. It didn't take long to realize the limitations with it though, so I returned it. The limitations apply to all current forms of VR.

Agreed, VR is just as big of a gimmick than the Wii U second screen controller. The wow factor is there in the beginning but quickly wears thin the more you play.

It also doesn't help that there are no great games for VR.

With the PSVR it was a good first try attempt but with the low end specs that cause blur, jaggies and motion sickness it may turn a lot of people away later.

The other headsets Vive amd Rift are just too expensive to even consider and then you have the smart phones that are gimmicks also.

CrimsonWing693124d ago

I'd have agreed with you in terms of a "gimmick" being a different way to do the same thing you can without the peripheral.

Like controls for example, motion controls are a gimmick to traditional controls as the end result produces nothing unique to the experience.

With VR it actually produces an experience/sensation that you can not get without the peripheral. Because of that I wouldn't label it a gimmick but rather an innovation to visually experience a game.

So I can really only speak for myself but I have loved the PSVR from day 1. I don't play it everyday but I'll at least playthrough Rez on a weekend and check out anything else new. What will determine the lasting appeal comes down to how aggressively they develop for it.

I feel AAA games should keep having these bite sized VR scenarios like what battlefront and COD have done.

kraenk123124d ago

It's funny that only those call it a gimmick who don't own one...most haven't even tried it. Give them the X-Wing mission or Resident Evil and watch their opinion change all of a sudden.

paddy953123d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

Agreed. At least 2 gen away from being good enough tech wise and still won't be main steam due to the small user base as it's a niche product.

yeahokwhatever3124d ago

step 1: keep your house clean.
step 2: press the "on" button on the headset, and place it on your head.
step 3: play games.

discobastard3124d ago

It's early days I guess

PSVR is the most frictionless system of the bunch though. Very little set up time needed compared to the others.
And you're right about things like Planet Earth. What's not being talked about is things other than games.
Google earth on Vive is amazing and I can't wait for more non gaming apps/uses for VR.

lastking953124d ago (Edited 3124d ago )

Exactly, VR is too inconvenient, expensive, lacks AAA software to excel at main stream level. Try again in 20 years where all you're doing is putting on some shades at $99 with all games supported and no quality downgrade

wsoutlaw873123d ago

intuitive and "easier" arent the same thing. ps vr is very simple to set up and and really doesnt require you to make space in your room. it isn't kinect. You dont seem to have tried it. Sorry but gaming is mostly a solo experience, with the exception of online multiplayer which isn't effected by vr.

DashArrivals3123d ago

"VR is not going to work with games like Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Red Dead 2 or Battlefield. "

This is from another one of your posts. Dude, you know they can make VR not in 1st person view right? I'm telling you, you haven't even seen what VR is capable of. Don't hold the short-sighted view on this tech. The Future generations of VR looks like they will surprise the crap out of you.

Have you got a VR? I'm telling you, this generation is not what you say. People can enjoy VR and laugh while watching the social screen. They can see what you see. I've had a living room with 8 people and everyone playing VR and people wanting to go again. Remember, this is only the beginning. It's not going to interfere with how we all play games now... but just let it and the content evolve, it's not bothering you. It can co-exist alongside the tried and true way of gaming.

Babadook73123d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

"Have friends over but only one person at a time can experience the fun? This isn't very fun..."

Wrong. Try playroom VR and "keep talking and nobody explodes". Fun for all your guests.

madmonkey013123d ago

ps vr has couch multiplayer already

kraenk123123d ago

VR is actually more intuitive than normal gaming to most people.

Deep-throat3124d ago

Sony will abandon it like they did with PS Move, Stereophonic 3D, PS Vita.

xDealtwithIt3124d ago

If it doesn't do half as good as they predicted then I suspect they will abandon it. They have a reputation of not supporting their peripherlas.

madmonkey013123d ago

everyone abandoned 3d tvs, PS vita and PS move are still in use today.

hongthay3121d ago

Do you realize that we still need PS Move with PSVR? And if you watched the Sony Experience, they are still bringing titles to the PS Vita. Yes, 3D is dead, but they weren't selling accessories for that.

Fearmonkey3124d ago

I love my PSVR, I have barely played any regular games since I got it. I keep wanting more and more VR :)

0Day3123d ago

You must not have a 4K display. I favor that over my VR any day. WaIting on RE7 to change my mind.

GNCFLYER3124d ago

VR is amazing. PSVR is amazing.

I see some people commenting here that has obviously never tried it.

kraenk123124d ago (Edited 3124d ago )

Obviously. You'll be surprised how fast their opinion changes once their platform of choice supports it.

ILostMyMind3124d ago

It's just a matter of time kkkkkkkk

xDealtwithIt3123d ago

It's like how a certain fanbase screams about more options but then tells everyone they dont need it when their platform of choice tells them it isnt needed.

Lennoxb633123d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

Like how all of sudden COD is being praised when PS gets marketing rights and early DLC? (BLOPs 3, IW)

Death3123d ago

VR was out for PC well before the PSVR launch last month. The same issues that affect VR on PC affect consoles. This isn't a Sony thing like you are trying to make it. No one is expecting VR to be any different when it hits Scorpio next year. The limitations hare inherent to the platform in general.

xDealtwithIt3123d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

Some people on this site seem to believe VR is only exclusive to the Sony system and can't be experienced any where else.

The 10th Rider3123d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

Yeah, I've got a gaming PC more than capable of running high-end VR, but I have absolutely no interest. Maybe when the technology's come a bit further I'll bite the bullet and get one.

I also don't think VR is 'the future' as people make it out to be. It may be more successful than 3D was, but like 3D it's still going to end up a separate experience to the traditional experience. . .Some people will like it more, some people won't.

Kiwi663124d ago (Edited 3123d ago )

What if people have tried it but its simply not for them so how does that make their opinion any less relevant ......... edit people can disagree all they like but it doesn't change logic

xDealtwithIt3123d ago

Because obviously everyone who tries anything is going to like it obviously right?

#obviously

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.
