The Last of Us’s Ellie: The modern pioneer of the female lead

Mrs Nesbitt from NerdHub writes: "In this article, I will focus on the role of female protagonists in video games, focusing particularly on The Last of Us’s Ellie. Please note that I will discuss some aspects of the ending from The Last of Us, so if you haven't played it there will be spoilers."

I loved the Left Behind mission at the end of The Last Of Us so hopefully this carries on the quality of female leads in gaming, someone needs to take over from Lara croft

Ellie is more badass than the rebooted lara croft.

Have to admit, I thought I had to babysit Ellie in the game like Resident Evil; glad I was wrong.

@MrsNesbitt

Yes, that's her!

MrsNesbitt2697d ago

Are you referring to the whiner, Ashley Graham? Aw god that was a nightmare haha

Great but honestly I really don't care about gender. I just really care for Ellie as a person. She was a typical kid that was thrust into an impossible situation. Seeing her slowly lose that childlike innocence was pretty gut wrenching. At the same time while scared she still not completely lost. Why the new trailer was so great because you can still tell she is still Ellie the kid (not a complete soulless badass) but at the same time she has grown and she is not really the same as before. I can easily see her growing up exactly to be like Trish.

Well there's no avoiding she's female, I wrote more from a female gamer's perspective growing up. It wasn't an attack on gender in gaming, as I stated to the other user below. However, I agree with your sentiments regarding her gender, I would still have the same view and love for a character if it were a male. Ellie is an amazing character with so much depth and breadth.

Embracer CEO demonstrates a masterclass in mental gymnastics in latest interview.

Turned based Phantasy Star and Shinning Force remain at the top of my list of Sega IPs that need to return. At the very least I'd take a Shining Force collection that has 1,2,3, CD and the Game Gear entries.

I was hesitant to put these two on. I've personally played more PSO than the RPG version. And shame on me, I don't remember much about Shining Force to talk about it properly.

That said, so many Sega licences deserve their place in this list.

A new Phantasy Star in the numbered series would be amazing. Shining Force too. But I’d settle on some collections as that’s probably the best we will get

anast5d ago

I don't trust Sega to do a proper comeback. The games will be just remastered and/or monetized to death.

shining force.

but indont see that happening unfortunately.
