Steep Review - SquareXO

SquareXO Writes: Steep is here, although to be honest you’ll probably want to save your money for Xmas, because in all honesty it isn’t very good. The game’s main problem is that it’s just boring, while being online only doesn’t help either.

Well, that's an honest review lol. Subscribed. Love the daily news idea too, seems a good channel.

Ofcourse it wasn't going to be good, there's no hype and media marketing behind it whatsoever, it also got announced out of the blue only a few months before release, they were betting on a quick cash in that's all there is to it.

Ninver3070d ago

This had flop written all over it.

it had potential written all over it. When they showed this at E3 (?) the trailer was incredible and had potential all over it. Aside from Coolboarders, SSX, Amped (XB), & Shaun White there hasn't been anything worth noting [imho] and there's definitely a market here. SSX captured a small portion of their original glory in their last game but that was 2012. Even then it lacked a lot of what made SSX so incredible with SSX & Tricky; perhaps even SSX3. Shaun White wasn't that bad but it got shat on & likely didn't sell well. Probably could have used more peaks if I recall. I really enjoyed it despite being a mix of supernatural and realistic; that was like 2008!! This isn't the kind of game we need annually but it's a shame the great work going into SSX & Shaun White went to waste.

I think for games like this to succeed you almost have to incorporate two modes. Realistic and Arcade. Not only that but have varying slopes both real and set up for tricks while finding a great balance on each slope. It's a shame Steep fell flat because it did have potential and I'm itching for some snowboarding after so many years with nothing on the market. We're long overdue for a great snowboarding game.

Exactly what I thought when I played the beta. I can understand how this could be fun with some friends but playing it solo bored me in no time at all.

you my sir are a good man and. But the biggest L is they had was not putting in the division

Lon3wolf1909d ago

Would of swapped out WoW for Division personally.

Sono4211908d ago (Edited 1908d ago )

Nah the biggest L is they forgot to add the Pokemon Sword and Shield Wild area ;) You're supposed to be able to take one step and go from a sunny summer day to a cold cloudy winter right?

In all seriousness though, I would say Uncharted 2 deserves to at least be a runner up.

pwnmaster30001908d ago

Wait so no horizon? Why is it the cover page then lol

porkChop1909d ago

For all it's faults, The Division has some of the best winter atmosphere I've come across. Massive Entertainment really nailed that aspect.

bluefox7551909d ago

Interestingly enough, today was the first "heavy snow" day we've had in PA, it's weird, it's been a pretty mild winter up until this point.

F' their click-fest article...sleezy does it.

BeCaUsE iT's NoT sTeAm! If often the reason why people don't like epic

Mainman1871945d ago

You'd have to pay me to play those games. Even then I'm not so sure.

Spenok1946d ago

Dang, 3 free games for the first 10 days. That's awesome.

Iamnothuman121946d ago

At this rate I won't ever have to buy anything from their store.

Unspoken1945d ago

And you eventually won't have to use any other platform either. Smart move.

Father__Merrin1946d ago

Epic have really looked after people since its launch. i predict the store gets stronger and stronger in the marketplace

luckytrouble1946d ago

Nah. All Epic is doing is building a community of people that will just hang around for the free stuff. People that are happy to take free games aren't going to necessarily overlap with people willing to pay.

Whatever Epic's strategy here is, they aren't exactly doing much as a store.

RazzerRedux1946d ago

I’ve bought a few games on sale there. They have some good deals. It isn’t just about free games, but good deals and free games? Seems like a pretty good store strategy to me.

PMind1945d ago

I have purchased multiple games. Most of the free ones are nothing I would have bought but are a welcome bonus.
