Moving Forward: Will Hello Games Escape the Shadow of No Man's Sky?

This week, in light of the No Man’s Sky Foundation update being released, Antony and Darren turn their attentions to what lesson can be learned from the disappointing release of No Man’s Sky and ruminate on whether any of that excitement and enthusiasm that the game basked in prior to release can be salvaged by this comprehensive update.

Lol! Gearbox just needs to stick to Borderlands! Everything else is an unmitigated disaster! A:CM, Duke Nukem and now Battleborn, which wasn't a terrible idea but released right b4 one of the biggest games of this gen launched. Wow!
It's like releasing a military fps a month before CoD4 Modern Warfare released.

I agree wholeheartedly. I think the signposts thing is meant as a placeholder for true multiplayer. And the separation of modes will be so that they can offer multiplayer in the creation mode, allowing us to work and build together.

Even if only a few people could enter others planets to see what they have built. Imagine a universe filled with planets we have scoped out and named and build civilizations on. It could be epic...Minecraft like. And young kids would love it.

It has insane potential. Off topic, it reminds me of PS Home and how I thought it was going to become a possible future UI for newer Sony console, almost like a Virtual Facebook of sorts. Imagine logging on and being grouped up with friends. You could own your own house, decorate it etc. The possibilities are endless, and they ended it. Imagine in 5 yrs if the PS5 had this with VR and you could launch right into a social space with all your friends.

I was wrong though. Just as I was with making the Vita a tablet like machine which had PS Now and VUE, and most games could be played on the go with it.

These collective opinions people are having about HG isn't just one person making thousands of accounts you know. Tell us how we're all wrong for calling their marketing fraudulent.

This is the unfortunate (and some might say unfair) position that indie devs find themselves in. They can be obliterated by one bad title. EA, Ubi, Activision, Gearbox, etc. have had missteps and failures on the same level and it's a blip on the radar. An indie has one, and it could literally be the end of the studio.
IMO, HG deserved a bit of the criticism. It's obvious that some things went wrong. But, that's all happened before. "Lies", bullshots, renders, deceptive gameplay...we've seen it all before. And we've seen it from AAA devs that just kept on doing it. So, I applaud the effort to make good on the promise of the game. It has the foundations of something that could be really great. (at release, it was just good) Their forward thinking and risk taking should be commended as well. They just got a bit ahead of themselves and mistakes were made. As long as they show that they learned from their mistakes, I'm good with giving them chance after chance. You'll never get new blood into the industry if you keep banishing devs for one game or one mistake. Let them live and learn. Let them grow. It's fine to be critical and hold them to expectations. We just can't afford to blacklist them all. Or, we'll be stuck in the infinite loop of rehashes and retreads.

Yeah, by staying under the same shadow b/c it's a great game and will only get better. Give them a chance. They need a documentary at some point b/c these boys have been on quite the roller coaster, from floods to industry saviors, to the face of corruption and back to redemption. It can be called "The fickleness of an entitled generation of video game consumers!"
