Netflix just might be the Switch’s killer app if Nintendo doesn’t find a way to screw it up

The Internet was abuzz yesterday upon Netflix’s announcement of a new feature, and I’m willing to bet that Nintendo took notice of it.

Even then I doubt anybody would buy Switch for its Netflix capabilities, especially when there are so many devices with that feature. It'd a nice feature, but not a big deal necessarily.

Nintendo had the most 1st party games that are household names.
Netflix is great and I'm sure they will have it on the switch. ...but killer app?? How?

Every Nintendo console for over 20 years has has those games kingtrash i mean come on lets get something fresh a new idea out there.

Not to mention netflix was on the wii but was taken down then the wiiu which will no doubt get taken down why would the company stick around for the 3rd time?

Hey I have this same problem with nintendo. They stick to the same games.
But I'll say this. ..they go years before they launch their games.
Zelda and metriod skipped a generation...sure mario still is over regergitated ....but mario is on another level than other games. It's a gaming staple. I mean mario been around before most of you were born. But it's a auto killer app because it sells consoles. And isn't that what killer apps do? Zelda...sells consoles....metriod....sells consoles...Pokémon sells handheld Consoles....everything on that list sales consoles. Period.
I totally agree they need to make new games...seriously they do and you can check my comments back when the wiiu was announced of me stating that.
But at the end of the day nintendo has legendary games. Games that people compare other games too.
When people say "it's a metriod style game" you know exactly what you are gunna get.....same for zelda, mario, and mario kart. They are staples....and they sell consoles and that are killer apps.
That mario run game will cost what 10 bucks.....10 frigging buck for a endless runner......WILL SALE BUCKETS.

I think we will see some more new ip's from Nintendo. As well as some old ones we have not seen for a bit. The success of splatoon I think will be what Nintendo will look at. Ide also love to see another Lego city. I am not a GTA game type fan but Lego city was really enjoyable. Add metroid with multi player and also a full Pokemon game Nintendo could be hard to stop. I think the device is prefect for Japan as they love gaming o.k. the go but if its £200 like we have seen for the pre orders then I see a lot of European and USA 3ds owners jumping on it to. I still don't think it will be a massive success in terms of 3rd party games like cod etc just because users of this type of game are casual users and I don't think they will look at a 2nd console.

Kinda depends on who will buy the Switch and how long the battery will last.

If the rumored 3 hours turns out to be true, you can watch maybe 1 and a half movie on the go.

But we'll see how it turns out.

"Killer App" in my definition means exclusive, as in you can't get it anywhere else. Netflix is by no means a killer app as it is availabe on almost everything. Hell, you could buy a used ipad for dirt cheap or any tablet for that matter and not be stuck with that 720p screen.

You don't know how much memory it has, and it will surely has an sd card slot. Netflix could be preloaded on it. Nintendo didn't reveal any Switch characteristic but people are assuming the rumors are true. Can we wait untill the official reveal before spreading uncorrect info?

Don't most TVs have Netflix built in? I dont see the point in having a console running in the background when you can just use your TV.

Netflix a killer app? Maybe it was like 4 years ago. But pretty much everything comes with Netflix pre-installed/available to download on. If I go and buy a calculator later on I wouldn't be surprised if that has Netflix pre-installed on it.

Anytime I tried to use Netflix or Hulu on a console,it sucks. I rather just keep using my Roku for that.

Well, I think it works very well on Wii U. A friend of mine has it on X1 and it works very well. The Wii U touchscreen is perfect for navigate on netflix.

Noone is going to watch netflix at 720p but kids. Watch the ns only play games with no apps or touch screen.
