Marvel vs. Capcom 4 coming in 2017

Marvel and Capcom characters will duke it out in a new crossover fighting game coming to consoles next year. Multiple sources tell Polygon that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is currently in development and slated for release sometime in 2017.

I remember when a lot of the big websites wrote about Bloody Roar 5 will happen after a HudsonSoft Twitter account tweeted about it.

The Twitter account was fake and Kotaku and many other websites failed for it.

My intuition tells me that it is the very same with Marvel vs. Capcom 4.

Wanting something to be true doesn't do shit, sorry. I wanted FFXV to be a proper Final Fantasy game. It is not. I was asking for proper Devil May Cry 5. Still asking for it 8+ years down the line. I wanted Metal Gear Solid V to make MGS2's story to look like a story for children. It did not.

I can't see it happening tbh.. the cost of the Marvel license alone is probably out of Capcom's reach unless Sony is paying for it and unless they had an agreement before SF5 launched, I can't see them wanting to back Capcom again considering the state 5 launched in.

And even if Capcom did somehow manage to get the Marvel license again, to recoup that cost would probably mean they'd need to try and bring in the casual Marvel fans and nothing will put off casual players like watching their character get blown up in a single combo.

Hope I'm proven wrong though, would love to see another proper Mahvel game.

It's not a contract. Marvel is choosing to promote only the characters and IP they own the film rights to. Going so far as to retcon Quicksilver and Scarlet Witches history to make them no longer Magneto's kids (which they WILL 100% retcon back later) and killing mutants and favoring the INhumans as their new X-Men type characters. Also disbanding the Fantastic Four. They are playing a game of IP scorch the earth.

Dont forget mvsc 1 and 2 were pulled offline so this xmen thing might have some truth to it and the marvel universe is huge but who cares. Any and everyone who loves comics loves the xmen and their characters should be in these vs games as it was the xmen vs street fighter that started all this anyway.

I hope that mvsc4 exist as well but i hope they dont make it a cheap cheese like 3 for the casual players ever again. Anyway looking foward to the anouncement if real.

Yeah. Marvel doesn't own movie rights for X-Men. All those movies are made by Fox. So since Marvel can't use them in their own movies they have basically been giving the X-Men the shaft in all forms of entertainment in an attempt to kill interest in them.

Its sad too. X-Men are what got me into comics. And if they don't include at least 2 or 3 X-Men in this game I will not buy it. Wolverine and Cyclops at least.

Let me give you a quick rundown of WHY I will not buy this if there are no X-Men.

1. Back in the late 90's, Marvel was in danger of going Bankrupt, so they sold multiple character rights to other film companies so they can make movies. Fox and Sony were the big ones. Fox got X-Men and Fantastic Four, and Daredevil. Sony got Spider-Man. Lionsgate got Punisher and Ghost Rider I believe. The contract stated that if these movie companies did not have a movie in development for these character within a 7 year time, at any point, then the rights would revert back to Marvel.

2. Since then, Marvel started their own movie company, Marvel Studios. Also, since then, Punisher, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider have reverted back to Marvel. They made a deal with Sony to let them use Spidey. But X-Men still makes more than enough money for Fox to want to keep them. So as long as Fox has them, Marvel cannot use the X-Men in their movies.

3. In an attempt to kill interest in the X-Men so that movie sales drop and the rights revert back to Marvel, Marvel has put a serious damper on the X-Men by not including them in nearly all forms of entertainment. Even in the comics they are being shafted for the much less interesting Inhumans.

4. So basically, Marvel made the mistake of selling their movie rights for X-Men to Fox, and because they can't use them in their massive movie universe now, they are hurting the fans by severely limiting the X-Men in everything. Until they stop this garbage, I will not buy any games like this, or anything else, that SHOULD have the X-Men included, but don't.

Quit punishing the fans for your mistake, Marvel.

So technically marvel could use x-men characters in games if they wanted to since FOX only has the movie rights? I don't see them leaving wolverine out just to spite FOX. He's the series icon for the marvel side like Ryu is for capcom.

Yeah. They can use any characters they want. At the end of the day Marvel still owns them all, just not the film rights because they sold them almost 20nyears ago.

They CHOOSE not to so that they can hype characters that are in their own Marvel Studios films. So because Marvel Studios dont own the film rights to mutants and can't use them in their own films, they won't use them in their game either.

Wolverine is the only one I can see them still using only because he is one of the big 4 poster characters for Marvel and is also an Avenger.

I bought the marvel encyclopedia recently and it is a heavy book but still lol. So many choices, why remove the few staples that people really liked? Replace the crappy ones. I want cable back!

Well that is true. The Fox-Men movies are horrible garbage. Unfortunately the general, non-comic reading public has no idea what a terrible representation the movies are of these characters and they keep eating these movies up every time a new one comes out. Fox makes more than enough money from non-comic reading fans to keep these movies going as long as they want.

All i have to say is if Capcom dicks over the Xbox One fighting community this time they can kiss my ass. If i have to wait or it's timed exclusivity that's fine. That's no big deal. I'm cool with that. If it's a full console exclusive I wont buy it before it's 15 dollars or maybe not ever at all. Not on PC or PS4. All this does is hurt the fighting game community as a whole by splitting it. There's a reason they missed their sales target by 600,000 copies. Fighting games should be available for all of us to enjoy on the major console of our choice. Especially if you want the community to grow. Not having that is the definition of counter intuitive. I'm cool with single player exclusivity even though it's weird the Spider-Man game is only on PS4 I'm still gonna buy it. Literally the only exclusive that was ever put out that made me angry was Street Fighter V. I guess we will see.
