To me you have to have the best graphics to claim the most power. 360 games look really good like Gears of War 2 and Fable 2.

I just haven't seen anything graphically that looks head and shoulders above 360 games. Motorstorm maybe, and Heavy Rain possibly from what I saw on the trailer. And then of course there's Killzone 2.

But until those games prove themselves, it's all talk. I still haven't seen how PS3 is clearly the most powerful.

We've already seen that the PS3 is clearly superior. You'd have to blind to not see it. Most 360 exclusives run on the outdated trash known as Unreal Engine 3, an engine that was maxed out last year by games like BioShock and Mass Effect. Gears of War 2 doesn't look special at all. Shame on Epic for releasing constant bullshots. We know what the gameplay looks like already so they better stop publishing fake "in-game" screen shots. They did this with Unreal Tournament 3 and the original Gears of War as well.

I couldn't agree more. The only game I can consider that can truly say its presentation-levels are above the competition is Killzone 2. I thought Uncharted looked good too, but I can't forget that most of it is all in "small" areas. If Killzone 2 proves itself, it's going to be a good day for me and my 360 friends.

I own both a PS3 and 360 and I know that this is not really only about the graphics, it is really quite obvious that the PS3 is more powerful in raw power. It has something like 27Ghz worth of processing power or something ridiculous like that. 360 games look good, but they are mainly better looking because it's RAM can handle higher-res textures, and because it is so easy to develop for.

Now that it has been 2 years the newer PS3 exclusives look like they will look better (and some of the old ones look really good too i.e. MGS4, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, GT5P).

First of all, great show. (someone pm me the time listing for the podcast). Here are my issues though.

Yes,PS3 is better (off it's gaming merits alone, especially considering everything outside of gaming). I am not a fanboy, though I do have a little crush on Sony, as well as, a dislike for the MS. Let me tell you why though.

The main/most important reason for this is (concerning ps3 and 360), bluray. Minus the fact that it is the standard hd medium format, but the disc space allows for bigger and better games. And actually MS has held back "next gen" due using dvd. If MS had used anything but dvd, we (all gamers) would be experiencing a better gen (lazy devs play a huge part too).

Another thing is (desprite, devs implementations)motion sensing. Even if motion sensing was only going to used for steering, it still opens up so many possibilities. For instance, (devs get on the ball) if motion sensing was the standard steering in a game, it would free up the analog sticks for something else (can you say dual welding separate aiming driveby).

Another thing is, no charge to play online. MS are b**ches for charging xbots to have essentially the same online experience as psn gamers, considering most games have and will be multiplatform games, and especially since xbox live (despite the fee)has ads (that is a huge slap in the face). That like paying for cable and seeing a commercial during a movie you paid for.

I could keep going but my point is made.

The main thing is if we let bs, such as the dvd thing slide, we will never get true next gen gaming.

ps1's processor crunched 33 million peraflops of data a second. The ps2 did somewhere around 500-700 million peraflops of data a second. xbox 1 probably a little higher than that. xbox 360 tech being more than 1.5 years older than ps3 i could take a guess after what im about to tell you. The cell marked an astonishing 131 billion peraflops of data a second running folding at home on the first firmware. Newer firmware means better hardware performance. 360 being 5 cores shorter than the 8 cored "cell" is significantly lower. Now theres newer firmware, haven't ran folding@ lately but my guess is that its more. Look at the psp. It eventually got the last firmware for performance unlocking the processors mhz to 333. Dont be silly Lightning.

Gears of war2 on the other hand is great, but even the developer admitted that it's slightly an improvement over the previous version with just a larger color palette. What do you mean by prove themselves? Gametrailer "biased 360 website" gave Killzone 2 best graphics award of E3 08. how is that not proving yourself. Name me one game that's looks good on the 360 that doesn't use the Unreal Engine 3? Halo 3 didn't even come close to it's pre-rendered trailer.

uncharted looks better than alot of 360 games, ratchet is the best graphics for any platformer to date, heavenly sword has some of the best graphics ever, Lair , motorstorm i mean best graphics out there now check this out i played killzone 2 and it looks better than gears, resistance, call of duty 4, i mean it's really detailed, so i mean ps3 is showing that not just graphics but scale and the bigness of there games are above what 360 has shown look at mass effect a huge game but it has tons of graphics hiccups, you see what i mean so ps3 to me is more powerful and heavy rain forget about that's on a whole new level and keep in mind 360 has been out for 3 years and the best exclusive graphical representation of that system is gears 2 gears 2 looks drop dead gorgeous man but at the same time killzone 2 surpasses that and after looking at resistance 2 from a graphical stand point it's kinda neck and neck to me but technical wise resistance is the biggest game with a huge scale to it i mean it's crazy so those are my reasons why ps3 is more powerful, but the 360 is very powerful too so don't sleep thanks for your comment though we should play some games soon

Metal Gear Solid 4 was suppose to prove how PS3 was more powerful, that it couldn't be done on 360.

In my opinion it didn't, was a good game though.

The bottom line is PS3 and 360 are about the same thing, and if PS3 can't more or less match the prices of XBOX 360, it's going to be a tough going for them. That's just reality, no matter what fanboys say.

You might be right. If the PS3 games can't really put 360 games at a distance, its hard to argue about the price. That is, if you consider the games alone.

I however also consider the added value you get with the PS3, that is BD, WiFi, chargeable controllers and free online play.

Some people might not value these things primarily, and would simply go with the lower price. I agree.

In the long run, I however also think, we will see more good games coming for the PS3, also with a clearer distance to 360 games at some point. Ports/Launch games could keep up, which usually show only 50-80% what can be done over the lifetime. So, this is a pretty clear indicator, IMO.

Just the fact that FF13 will have to be chopped into 5 discs to = 1 BD should tell you something.

Just KZ2 pre alpha footage should tell you something.

Just the lack of a high failure rate should tell you something.

Just the specs should tell all thats really all you need know to discern which is ultimately more powerfull.

Just the games MGS4, HS, GT5P, Warhawk, Resistance and Uncharted should tell you something they all bring things that are unique to PS3.

Its not a huge difference in power shown to date but Its easily recognizable to me. I play the top games from each system and I notice PS3's greatest looks and plays more solid and smooth then that of the 360.

I was amazed that when I played NGS i was impressed by the graphics and smooth gameplay. When I played NG2 I noticed a Ryu with a lower polygon count then in sigma first off and graphics that where barely on par with sigma if that. I was impressed with the new elements of gameplay , higher level of gore , and the weapons , bosses etc. Technically and Graphically though I was surprised that Sigma impressed me more.

If you want to do everything that you can do on the PS3 as an Xbox owner you have to buy gold live membership. After that you need batteries for your controller and a recharger if you don't want to spend a multitude of money on cheap batteries. A HDD is also needed as the PS3 has one.

Before the fanboyz jump in, I just wanted to say that technically, the PS3 is more powerful. If you've listened to any of our past shows you would know that I've said we haven't seen the true power of the PS3 just yet. I'm just saying from a technical standpoint, it has more power than the 360. We will see all of that next year as my man LightningPS3 pointed out. KZ2 is the first game that really shows what this system can do. MGS4 looks great, but we've seen graphics on that level on the 360. Same with Uncharted.

Gears of War is not on par with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, it isn't even close. I have an XBOX 360 and a PlayStation 3 the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune game looks better graphically. When you go into caves the lighting is amazing, the water effects, just overall textures are a lot better. With Gears of War 2 that game looks to be closer to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune than the first game, but after playing Halo 3 I would have to play the game first.

P.S. Halo 3 looks ugly on an HD (High Definition) TV, but looks good in screen shots, lol. Ridge Racer 7 for the PlayStation 3 looks better than most XBOX 360 game and it was a launch title.

Actually, from a Visual Standpoint one can argue that Gears of War looks just as good or better than Uncharted. But from a technical standpoint, Uncharted > Gears of War.

Drake is made up of about 30,000 polygons.
Fenix is about 15,000.

The enemies that Drake shoot at, is made up of 12,000-15,000 polygons.

And it shows. Look at all the different animations Drake can do. Then look at Fenix. Huge difference.

Oops, I did say the 360 is still on par with the 360. I guess I did "self flub" a.k.a. make a typo, which everyone does. Dorks.

To the guy who says I don't own an HDTV, just so you know, I have a 40" Samsung 1080P LCD, and my 360 looks AMAZING on it.

The jaggies that I refer to on the PS3 come from their own displays in GameStop and other places. Go into any GameStop and turn on the Uncharted demo and tell me there aren't a bunch of jaggies. And the demo is on Sony's own HDTV. To be fair though, the demos that you see in GameStop and other stores are in 720P and not 1080P, which boggles my mind because you'd think that you'd want your presentation to be as crystal clear as possible to potential customers.

I will say that MGS4 looks extremely impressive, although I have yet to see it played on a PS3 in person. But you guys act like all PS3 games, including multplatform games, blow the 360's out of the water with graphics, when you know that's not true at all.

The most impressive graphics for both consoles are yet to come, and you'll see games more impressive looking than MGS4, such as RE5, on both consoles. If there is a time when the PS3 starts to pull away from the 360, it will be if MS decides to stop focusing on the 360 before Sony decides to stop focusing on the PS3.

Of course the PS3 is the most powerful system on the market, it's got the Cell Processor and Blu-ray.

You've got developers like Epic stating that they believe the 360 is hitting the upper end of it's capabilities, but the Playstation 3 first party developers are still digging deeper and deeper into the PS3 and the last thing you hear them say is "reaching limits" with the PS3.... it will probably be another 3-4 years before developers start to reach the PS3's limits.

A lot of PS3 and 360 games look nearly the same when it comes to graphics, but Sony's exclusives in 2009 are definantly looking like they are going to push past Xbox 360 graphics and there will actually be a very noticable difference in PS3 and 360 game graphics because Killzone 2, Heavy Rain and M.A.G. are going to be some very impressive games graphically.

Thee graphics in God of War 3 are supposedly supposed to look almost nearly the same as the CGI trailer and the same thing was said about M.A.G. in an article.

In my opinion, I think that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, and Metal Gear Solid 4 are the most graphically impressive games on the console market and they are only on the PS3. Yes I know that COD4 is a graphically impressive game too, but I'm just talking about exclusives.

Gears of War 2 will probably be the last best looking game that will ever grace the Xbox 360. Forza 3 has been rumored to look even much greater than Forza 2, but it will be interesting to see if Turn 10 can even come close to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's car detail because the detail that is put in the cars in GT5P is just MINDBLOWING.

I think that the PS3 has the hardware and potential to have better looking games. However I have noticed that many games that are on both systems, seem to run better on the 360 with the same graphics for the most part. Last years madden 60fps to 30 on ps3. I also think that the Ps3 is hard to program for and that the learning curve is much steeper. That said with having mandatory installs, which acts like a cache for the PS3 I think in the future it will have better looking games, but right now I really do not see it. I am a PC gamer, but was really impressed with the look of uncharted and MGS4. However I think that gears 2 will be on par with those. I think you are right for the most part. I think the programming curve is pretty much being overcome at this point; the PS3 is not new anymore. Many times when they hastily ported some 360 games to PS3, the result of course was not up to par. At the same time, I really have not seen any 360 games as good looking as Uncharted and MGS4. I have not seen every single 360 game and if anyone knows any that look as good or better, I would like to see them (not being sarcastic). The 360 was a year behind and significantly less-expensive (the hardware used was not quite as powerful). I think that Microsoft themselves would probably concede the graphics argument, even if not openly. Graphics are not the most important thing, but people should be able to admit a visually stunning game. Gears looks great, but not as great as Uncharted and MGS4, in my honest opinion.

Yes killzone looks awesome, but one small fact everyone is looking over, the animation is why killzone looks so good, the graphics are actually crap... There is no texture any where, plus with bland colors it makes the graphic work less hard, and that way the animation can be implemented better with the cell...

Nasim has been pwned so hard on this thread it's not even funny. Even though I do agree that Uncharted looks better than Gears. From a technical standpoint, it is also better considering that the characters have twice the polygons, the textures are more detailed and the animations are more realistic. MGS4, Killzone and Heavy Rain are other great examples of something that PS3 can do but probably not its limit. Resistance 2 and Motorstorm 2 aren't far either and they look a lot of fun.

I have nothing against tordavis (like you do) but you are right. Uncharted has many other things that are considered to be "superior" than gears of war. Granted, gears of war is my favorite 360 game ever and it's the gameplay that got people hooked. But technically Uncharted is more advanced because of the animations. Sony doesn't like to talk about its crippled Cell processor or it's 2nd rate video card and memory subsystem. I wouldn't call the 360 a graphics powerhouse either, but it has proven time and time again, when a game that is released on both the 360 and PS3, it looks and plays better on the 360. Nuff said. PS3 was a design nightmare, that if they designed better, would of been performing better.

I've always been a gamer from the ps1 days. I grew up joined the USAF (United States Air Force). I cant say specifics but they bought hundreds of ps3's for the cell. Sony was chosen instead of IBM for reasons that cant be disclosed. The cell in the consoles aren't at full specs yet due to their firmware set-up. It will be eventually but that's not the point. The cell started getting manufactured in 2007. To make a PC capable of what the cell could do at factory settings today, 10 years ago would cost tens of thousands of dollars using at least 30 or more pentium 2 processors arranged in parallels of 8. Anyway, the tests are through the roof. hundreds of billions of peraflops a second. Small known fact, Folding@Home at any given moment on average is linked to about 250,000 PC's globally. Consumer level "cells" equal around 20,000 to 30,0000 and they alone run 20% faster than all of the PC's in the network...wow. Fact of the matter: yes it is the "most powerful" bar none. Hope i don't get in trouble shhhhhh.

I'm seeing a lot of argument between Uncharted and Gears of War graphics. I think anyone can see that they both have awesome graphics regardless of which of the two are greater. The thing that really separates the two for me is the art style. In my opinion, Gears of War is an ugly looking game, the characters are ridiculously bulky and to be quite frank, not too easy on the eyes. It's kinda stupid people arguing which has a higher polygon count, it doesn't mean anything if the game is hideous to begin with. An artist could make an extremely detailed face of an old lady, that doesn't mean that it would be more visually appealing than a less detailed picture of an attractive women.

That's what I think it should come down to. Not statistics, but personal opinion of the art style. If people think gears of war is a better looking game for that reason, you cannot really argue, since everyone is entitled to their own opinion on art.

I still recognize that people like to buff their own game up with numbers, but don't let that be the only reason you think a games graphics are greater. Look at how the graphics appeal to you, then decide. For that reason I believe that MGS4 looks a ton better than Killzone 2. Killzone 2 character design are pretty close knit to gears, and it's not to my taste.

In conclusion, judge from what you see, not what you hear/read.

Do you guys even remember how long these game have been worked on to try and get them at the best possible graphic level. Delay after delay after delay. Games are coming way to slowly on my PS3. We will not know witch is more powerful until developers who work on both tell us. From what I keep seeing 360 may have the edge. -After a while I've stopping caring about the numbers all together. In the U.S, Europe, and Japan and just played games and enjoyed them.

Where does folding@home come into this?
It has nothing at all to do with the power, computers from 5 years ago can run F@H, the only reason the 360 doesn't have it is because it hasn't been put onto the system.

Like others have said, I know that the PS3 is more powerful, I don't need to see a article everyday telling me that, but until we see games properly showing & proving its possible the 360 has my vote.

Oh & before people start going 'you 360 fanboy' and all that BS, I own a PS3 and a 360, plus I play them both a lot.

done by MS first of all. If you know anything about benchtesting do it. The ps3 testing is hard because you need to install linux and then some testing software or you could just use F@H and see all the computing cluster per time period devastate said scores for same thing with 360.

But I know which one will probably get more squeezed out the box due to veteran stunning internal developers which had worked on two other generations doing the same, as time moves on...

Also I see people mentioning multi-plat comparsions, these aren't AT ALL relevant as developers are NOT going to put more into one platform hardware wise especially if its run on an engine which has been made to be ported to multiple systems.
Why would they? It only costs more in time and money with no real rewards and they want twice/thrice the sales. Not just everyone to hop on one platform and lose out on money and sales.

We will only see multiplatform titles taking advantage of the PS3 when more are inside of houses, its understandable that there isn't now; because hardly any of the internal developers have really strutted their creative stuff on the PS3 yet and that's a lot of the stuff that causes sales and right now, that's the sort of thing which is going to prove 'power'; not middleware or multiplatform gaming engines.

Not me i have all three and even if i didn't i would own the one that is going to please me not what every one thinks is the best or most popular. Hell if dreamcast was still making games I wanted to play I would go out and buy a dream cast and play those. I play my psp sometimes more then i play my consoles it all depends on what i feel like. Uncharted still hasn't been surpassed (except by MGS4), both PS3 exclusives.

yes the ps3 is more powerful because of the cell but thats not going to make a big difference. Ram is a factor/ Devs are a factor. Both systems are equal.Bluray isnt nextgen its jus ta bigger storage medium and doesnt make graphics better.On dvd they do have to be compressed but that doesnt degrade the graphics alot like people seem to think. I own both so Im bi, I do prefer uncharted to MGS4 but Prefer Gears/bioshock to both. Also just because a system can dish out a little more graphical power doesnt mean its superior to the other console Wiiiiiii for instance ( i hate it ). Everyone know the cell is a very powerful chip and both system have their pros and cons with hardware and the only thing that matters is how Devs use that hardware. XBL being 50 a year isnt a factor and shouldt be discussed because some dude sleeping in a hut in africa and afford 4 bucks a month. I hate fanboys! You ruin everything

If Ram is a factor than having 3.2ghz ram would be much better than 700mhz ram. Even if your ram is 512MB, imagine that the other could send 256MB almost 7 times while the other is sending 512MB once. And if you think it's bullshit apply it to processors!
