PlayStation VR Review - Not Worth the Money

Jason says, "I know it’s been a long time coming, but I’ve spent extensive time with PlayStation VR, and here’s my verdict on whether you should buy it or not!"

solderman3083d ago

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. However I'd be very concerned about having a lot of battery power wrapped around my head in 2016. The more dense and compact they make lithium ion batteries the more unreliable they are starting to become.

I for one don't really want an explosion on my head if you catch my drift.

PlayStation VR Review Review: Not Worth Watching

This review cost too much time to watch, and it gave me nausea. There wasn't enough content in it to keep me interested, just the same old tired points we've been hearing from the few people who don't like or can't play VR.

C-H-E-F3082d ago

LMAO, ahahaha i love the spin on it for sure. And agreed PSVR is the next best thing to happen to console gaming since the SD to HD revolution. My wife and myself along with around 10 of our friends have played our VR Headsets without an issue since launch day. Driveclub played well on our PS4 Originals without nausea and even better on the PS4 Pro (much smoother, and slightly more crisp, and better head tracking). If you have nausea or can't play a game then you shouldn't be able to review it because you can't play the freaking game. All you should be able to say is I had nausea and couldn't play it. Be careful buying the game too because you may have the same symptoms thus losing your money. smh. Anyways if anyone has Driveclub PM me your PSN i'll add you guys. :D

S2Killinit3082d ago

Utter BS is what it is. Im having a blast. Better than anything we've had in decades of gaming.

FriedGoat3082d ago

Best tech I have bought in years, constant stream of new content, works exceptionally with PS4 Pro, truly game changing.

DigitallyAfflicted3082d ago

He does not like PlayStation if you watch more of his videos. I'm loving ps vr, DriveClub VR definitely not a tech demo and more games are full titles with hours of good fun.

subtenko3082d ago

apparently galaxy note phones are explodin, pshhh, we dont need another hoverboard scenario lol

The_KELRaTH3082d ago

And if made by Samsung I'd be more worried about my head disappearing from the explosion :)

Correction: not worth the money **to him**.

Some games have an effect on me. Some don't. And the ones that don't are worth playing to me. Do I experience "burp" on the games that effect me? Yes. So, I don't play those games that give me nausea. How easy is that to do?

Some gamers can't play fps games at all because of nausea. Some can't play *games* at all because of epilepsy. Does that mean that consoles aren't worth buying at all because some can't use it? The guy seems reasonably intelligent but is not using his brain.

People like this would have never been able to play Atari games or untextured PS1 games or black and white gameboy games because they were first gen. It's like the tech has to be perfect for these entitled children to use. 8 track or cassette? Nope. Tell me when mp3 shows up because that tech is better. 4:3 scan line TVs? Nope. Tell me when 4K HDR 80in screens show up. Dial up? Nope. Tell me when gigablast high speed internet shows up.

How do these knuckleheads think modern tech has gotten to where it is now? It takes years of refinement and miniaturization to get there while waiting for costs to come down. Waiting for wireless, glasses level VR that is high resolution at low cost is years away. But it won't get there if no one starts TODAY. Consoles wouldn't be where they are if pong and Atari didn't exist.

freshslicepizza3082d ago

when the wii came out it too was a great step towards motion controls but that wasn't a $500 investment plus the cost of the console to get started for something that has can only be played for an hour or two at a time.

ApocalypseShadow3082d ago (Edited 3082d ago )

Wii wasn't a $500 investment but also lacked great motion control. That's why they updated it with motion plus.

That's why they came up with this thing called "breaks." Works in exercise, jobs and oh... Videogames.

VR works on a phone with cardboard for $10-$20 dollars. I know. I bought one. But it lacked motion control, high frame rates on some apps and big developers backing the tech.

Gaming as a hobby is expensive. To expect new and better tech than the 90s VR units to be cheap for an expensive hobby is ridiculous. It's not a mandatory device either. Gamers can continue playing 2D viewed games on their televisions and ignore it.

Utalkin2me3082d ago

@moldybread

The Wii motion controls was more of gimmick then it was a feature taking gaming to the next level. Maybe your PSVR if it only allows you to play a hour or two at a time. I spent like 4 hours playing the other day without a break and mine didn't cut off after a hour or two. Maybe yours is defective.

GNCFLYER3082d ago (Edited 3082d ago )

Pretty much anyone who ordered it already had the console.

There was also a 400 dollar version.

Casuals have VR options for theyre phones like gear VR and homido, cardboard etc..

Your exaggerating.

freshslicepizza3082d ago (Edited 3082d ago )

well enjoy because i personally think waiting is the best option for me. i have been an early tester before for devices like playstation move and while i saw the potential it really all boils down to software support. sony is going to give vr great marketing but as we can see it is still very early and the games need to be good games, not just a novelty of "oh wow, this is so cool being in a virtual world" and then you take the headset off and realize how shallow the experiences truly are.

the technology looks good but we are not there yet. we already see many compromises playing out on psvr and that to me is because of sony's unwillingness to allow ps4 pro exclusives. when the ps5 arrives, that to me is when vr will truly shine. sure oculus and thrive offer greater immersion with greater clarity but it will take someone like sony to push developers to really support it with good aaa games and that's not going to happen overnight as we can see. maybe microsoft's involvement with scorpio will help by having a powerful console and not be limited by having to support the xbox one.

mcstorm3082d ago

I am with you on this but for me I still don't see PSVR being the next big thing that will stick. Last gen we had Wii, Move, Kinect, 3D and how many are being used this gen? I think psvr will be the same. Yes VR gives a different feeling to gaming but I still don't see it being the next big thing that is going to stick and the main gamer dose not want to sit with a headset on to play games. I do see it working for other things though but not home consoles.

ApocalypseShadow3082d ago (Edited 3082d ago )

Exclusives aren't necessary. Better development and knowledge of a platform's ability is all that's needed. Exclusives only split the user base. Sony wants to avoid that.

Strange that no one seems to mind though that Microsoft is going to offer VR for new buyers of Scorpio but 20+ million don't get any option at all. That is splitting the base.But VR works on a inferior device than Xbox one from Google with daydream and pixel phones. There's no excuse for leaving this millions out just to claim superior VR.

Also, a platform has to sell before bigger games can be made for developers to profit from. Some of those games are already in the works like re7, far point, star trek, etc. Gamers need to understand you can't shove 500 games onto a platform overnight.

Utalkin2me3082d ago

@moldybread

Which games have you played that gave you a shallow experience?

Errorist763082d ago (Edited 3082d ago )

@Utalkin2me

None of course.

freshslicepizza3082d ago

@Utalkin2me
"Which games have you played that gave you a shallow experience?"

i know you are trying depserately to come across as being clever because you seem to have a defense mechanism that gets the better of you most times but your question is odd. we are in a topic about a review of a product. why are you here if you already made up your own mind? you are essentially telling everyone to not talk about anything unless they played it themselves and ignoring all information that we once used to make an educated guess before buying anything. that isn't going to work and all you have done is shown is just how thin your skin is.

ecchiless3082d ago

@moldy

Still you are not saying what games have you played, so...

VR Games Showcase | 11 March 2025

Tune into VR Games Showcase for the latest announcements and updates on Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2, and PC VR titles coming in 2025.

With Hitman: World of Assassination on PS VR2, Flat2VR Studios, Slender VR and much more confirmed for the show, this is something you won't want to miss.

This will be a roughly 35 minute show.

Babadook747d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Robo Quest VR looks pretty slick with that fast gunplay.

Shadowgate VR looks good too, perhaps in the vein of elder scrolls.

thorstein47d ago

Shadowgate VR. Thought it might be connected to the old point and click game. But it still looks good.

darklaw46d ago

y'know, VR needs something can can only be achieved while in VR. Immersion isn't enough, it has to have a hook that is so cool that you would want to own one. Having the same games you could play on console doesnt warrant a purchase.

Babadook745d ago

Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village and Gran Turismo 7 alone make it worth it for me. The difference VR makes is so large it more than doubles the enjoyment of these types of quality VR ports. So I disagree. I would love a future where all great 2d games got some kind of a hybrid port to VR.

PSVR2, PCVR, and Quest VR Are About to Have Some of Their Best Months for Games

Virtual Reality (VR) gamers will be eating well the next few months with what seems like solid titles releasing from now until December.

DaReapa194d ago (Edited 194d ago )

Has Hitman: World Of Assassination been confirmed for PCVR? If not, then this article is seriously misleading.

CrimsonIdol194d ago

It's confirmed on Steam VR yes. It's right there on the store page.

bigfish194d ago (Edited 194d ago )

I’ll have to put the dual sense down and pick up metro and alien vr to see me out till the end of the year. Good to see companies supporting psvr 2 .

Babadook7194d ago

Looks like a tremendous few months coming up. I won't be able to keep up with these.

UltimateOwnage194d ago

VR is really starting to flesh out recently. The hardware is finally getting accessible and with the quality it takes to deliver a compelling and immersive experience. Good times ahead. I hope Flat2VR Studios can bridge the gap with some excellent conversions as the industry matures.
