Hardware Review: PS4 Pro: Part 1 – The Juice Isn’t Worth The Squeeze

Pure PlayStation: Pure PlayStation is going to be doing something of a double - nay - triple PS4 Pro review; one from Brian and why he thinks the mid-generation refresh isn't worth getting too excited about; Jat who sees the console as a splendor, a true treat for the eyes; and Chris who will be looking at the console purely from a PSVR user's perspective. As the other two are still beavering away at getting their words in a row, here's Brian's take on the PS4 Pro.

Give it a rest. It cost 399, in some places you can get one at 349... Well its much better to buy consoles that have problems to reach stable 900p much less 1080 and not even can have locked 30 frames.... in 2016...

This is a cheap upgrade for all gamers and not a next gen console. Thats next year. But if you want 4k60 game you can buy a gaming PC with a Titan X.

If you want to buy a console and have 399 or less and dont buy a Pro, then you really arent that smart...

Honestly...it's 50!!! Dollars more....50, for the 1TB model. Everyone who states this is not worth it has serious mental problems.

Future proof console. 400 bucks is well worth! ;)

Nice reply, you said it all.

They said 'right now" in the article. Its a launch, upgraded PS4. Devs need time to wrap their heads around it and there isn't really anything taking advantage of it.

I have one but opening it on xmas to save money. If I open it now the wife and kids will buy me more stuff. Hopefully by then there are more patches and support.

Also, I have 2 PS4 so im selling 1 for 150 so that brings it to 250 for me.

This article was about the PS4 Pro. Throwing Xbox in was unnecessary.

So this site is going to post 3 different reviews for each audience bias and their opposite to click away?
I find PurePS interesting sometimes as I follow on twitter but that way of trying to rake clicks which is somehow spreading on a few different gaming sites doesnt sound right.

The idea is that it'd be better to get impressions from more than one person. So while one guy thinks it's not worth it, it's worth hearing a different side of the coin from the guy who does think it's worth it. Then there's the guy with the Pro and the PSVR (only one of us match that criteria so far, me!) that'd be aimed purely at people wanting to know if it's worth getting for the PSVR.

Does it bring in more visitors? Yeah, naturally, but that's not the true aim of it. Most sites will have a review of the console done by one person, so I thought it'd be a little more interesting and against the curve to have multiple viewpoints from within the site. For something as big as the PS4 Pro - a $400 machine, not just a $60 game - I think it's definitely worth putting out as much fair views as possible, and to be honest, I'm surprised other sites haven't taken the same approach :/

OB1Biker3122d ago (Edited 3122d ago )

Ive seen a few other sites do something similar. Why not just do like in good old times? when you have a somehow as fair as possible review and most important of all unbiased and objective, and in the conclusion a short paragraph with like 3 to 5 different people giving their point of view and opinions?
Strong opinion, and by definition subjective, should be short and in addition to an objective review IMO not be most of the review.

chrish19903122d ago

Because, and especially when it comes to the PSVR/Pro combo, there's just too much for it to be summarised into a small paragraph and it wouldn't do it justice. I did toy with the idea, believe me, but the direction we're going is *hopefully* more useful to consumers.

It's worth it for a new PS4 owner. But not worth it as an upgrade, especially if you don't have 4K

Putting Ads in a pay-to-play Premium title? Well done Microsoft. Well done /s This is really scummy.

This game will never change because these sweatlords love buying up all the skins and bundles that become obsolete the following year. They're the ones perpetuating Activision's greed.

Looks pretty bad ass to me and them 199X games are still some of the best f*cking games out there.

The controller itself looks great. I would prefer a first party controller though
