Infamous: Second Son And First Light PS4 Pro Patch Allows Better Frame Rate Or Higher Resolution

Infamous: Second Son and Infamous: First Light have received a patch for supporting PS4 Pro. This new patch’s download size is over 3 GB for Infamous: Second Son while it is under 3 GB for First Light.

Its the way it should have been for all games from the start of this gen.

Develop your game with all the visual bells and whistles @ 30fps and then offer a second option with scaled down visuals @60fps. They already do it for PC so whats the hold up?

Plus console warriors would have one less reason to fight over.

It's great to have the option. Whether I choose the "higher framerate" option depends on if it is actually a solid 60fps. If it's not pretty solid I would prefer to play it with a solid 30fps with better image quality thanks to downsampling.

Try them both, give your verdict (forget about any previous bias if possible).

It would be really interesting if people did this (experiences with all TV setups, Large/small screen, all resolutions/ screen types, old and new TV's etc.).

You could build a database that would help people decide whether or not they should upgrade to Pro now or get some new kit first.

Well SCEJ did co-develop the game like Demon's Souls. FromSoftware is not the only developers of the game. So Sony could do it themselves.

It would be ideal if all devs did this but I don't want to get too excited because this is Sonys in house dev team. I suspect it will definitely happen with in house games but may not happen for a lot of AAA 3rd party titles. Since they have so many optimizations they will have to do. Essentially 2 for each competing console plus PC and perhaps even Nintendo. Lots of money AND people to work on these. At least until they get it locked down after Repetition. Would be nice. Just not getting my hopes up.

Cerny said it was minimal effort to do a Pro version. It would be easier to do a Pro Version than a Switch version, it would look much better and be out sooner.

If the Pro sells well, there's a big incentive them (maximum gain for minimal effort). Remember, they only have to remove some of the compromised solutions they will have required to have made to squeeze the best out of the PS4 version, then add some bells and whistles and tinker around a bit.

It's not using custom code so if they have a PS4 version, they're good to go in no time.

Agreed that there will be more work plus associated costs but as Angeljuice said; Cerny seems to have accounted for this and designed pro in mind of developers. This makes sense considering the architecture and overall settings/components seems similar (i.e. just more beefed up parts) so logically there should be minimal effort. With multiple different parts in PC for different people is probably where issues arise but obviously we are not in this scenario.

But anyhow, this is the first for a mid-generation upgrade for console so it's still something relatively new so we probably see more comments from devs in the coming year.

I Wish they did that for regular ps4 as well, 720p 60 fps or 1080p 30 fps

When it says better fps are they talking about an unlocked framerate or locked 60fps? From the videos I've seen, game is already locked at 30 fps consistently. If it isn't making the jump to 60 then that'll be unfortunate.

I get my information from my human brain. It tells me that people who know their stuff say is that it's not easy to just double the frame rate when the CPU clock is just clocked a few hundred MHZ higher.

Its funny cause i just upgraded to a 980 gtx from a 8 series card and guess what it over doubled my framerate in alot of games. Wow who would have thought. Man i should have saved that money and upgraded my CPU instead....SMH......

It has nothing to do with CPU as your statement is implying. Sure that has a outcome on framerate, but it's not the reason in this case. It's cause they already had it locked at 30 fps and it would take a huge overworking to get it run at solid 60.

Original version is unlocked framerate and there is an option to lock it to 30fps. It's running in mid thirties most of the time though. I think pro version will be around 40-50 average

Yup, i'll be playing through second son again. My backlog will forever continue to grow it seems. I just don't know why I can't say NO to a new game that comes out. Because I know that I will either start playing it and not finish the old games or finish the old games first then play the new one 2/3 months later when other new games come out. UGH, when I was broke it was so much easier to game lOl.

I guess the bonus is that I never did get around to playing First Light, so I can enjoy it in a better version. I don't think I am going to go back and play through Second Son all over again just because of the Pro version but for anyone who hasn't played it, that should be a real nice treat.
