Kefir Games adventure Jrpg game “Moon Child” looks like a mix of Zelda and Monster Hunter

Just a couple of days ago I (Robin Ek, TGG) stumbled up on Kefir Games upcoming adventure Jrpg anime-like game "Moon Child", and the game looks like a mix of Monster Hunter, The Legend of Zelda and Skyrim. So I have to say that I´m rather impressed with what I´ve seen from "Moon Child" so far.

Oh dear...Not to sound evil or anything, but I find it to be rather unlikely that the devs will reach their Kickstarter goal on time :S

Only a godlike miracle could save "Moon Child" from a big failure on Kickstarter...However, the developers told me that they would give indiegogo a try in the near future.

Littil_Devil3100d ago

Sounds like a good idea to me, but I truly hope that they will do a better PR job for their game this time.

Simon_the_sorcerer3100d ago

If that´s the case, then they should have a short playable demo available. As it would help them to get more financial support with no doubt.

Not trying to be a party pooper but, how can a western developer make a Japanese RPG?
-_-

I honestly thought that a game of Moon Child´s caliber would have made it on Kickstarter with no sweat. However, it seems like the game has been left out in the cold :S

TGG_overlord3100d ago

Either did I...I actually thought that the game would have been fully funded by now. Then again, the devs informed me that they don´t have a marketing budget...So I gave them some advice for their upcoming indiegogo campaign.

Littil_Devil3100d ago

Wait, say what?! :S They had no marketing budget at all for Moon Child? Then it´s no wonder why they didn´t reach out to any people at all...

Simon_the_sorcerer3100d ago

Like I said, "poor marketing".

Simon_the_sorcerer3100d ago

Imo, Moon Child looks like one of the more promising indie games in its genre at the moment. So it´s most definitely a matter of poor marketing.

TGG_overlord3100d ago

Indeed. So the devs need to push the game much more once their indiegogo campaign kicks-off, or else they will just end up as badly as they did on Kickstarter...

@Littil_Devil "Wait, say what?! :S They had no marketing budget at all for Moon Child? Then it´s no wonder why they didn´t reach out to any people at all..."

Yes, that´s what they told me yesterday...And to be honest, I was quite surprised to hear that.

Gauging from this video, it looks like the devs are biting off far more than they can chew. It looks interesting, but it needs a TON of ironing out. Animations the most. Yes, I know it's in Pre-Alpha stage... but what I'm getting at is I don't think they have it in them to make it turn out good.

TGG_overlord3100d ago

I told them that fact as nice as I could without sounding like a bastard.

Spenok3100d ago

Lol I don't mean to sound that way either. The game does look like it has potential. The bosses look pretty solid, and it sounds like an interesting game. It's just the animations are so jarringly PS2 era and offputting. The game appears it's trying to be on more of an AAA scale game rather than indie, which is why my first comment was so harsh. Clipping looks to be an issue, although I didn't mention it at first because as the trailer says, it's pre-alpha. My main issue is with the animations. They can make or break the immersive-ness of a game that's trying to be taken seriously. Even in games like Skyrim they bother me.

I love the fact it has that Zelda/Skyrim feel to it though.

Moon Child Shows Potential With Overly Ambitious Campaign

Joanna Mueller writes: "Kickstarter campaigns are fickle beasts. Without the right guidance, terrible ideas can seem great, while perfectly good ideas can look catastrophic. Either option is unfortunate, but neither is as detrimental as campaigns that leave potential backers on the fence about pledging. Moon Child, unfortunately, falls into this bizarre limbo."

I want to like this more than I do, it's got some interesting stuff but just looks way too rough.

Review: Moon Child (iPhone/iPad) - BNBGAMING

Martin Watts writes: "Overall, Moon Child is a well-made game that suffers from one major flaw: its controls. The Elastimotion setup requires a lot of getting used to and not being able to switch to a traditional control setup really means you have to persevere with it. Graphically, the game features some great, high-resolution scenery and the level design is solid. Being able to work your way through the game, however, is incredibly challenging. The game is difficult enough as it is, and this would have been one of the most enticing aspects for hardcore retro gamers, but the awkward controls, unfortunately, make Moon Child an unnecessarily tough and frustrating trek for all players, regardless of skill."
