Just a couple of days ago I (Robin Ek, TGG) stumbled up on Kefir Games upcoming adventure Jrpg anime-like game "Moon Child", and the game looks like a mix of Monster Hunter, The Legend of Zelda and Skyrim. So I have to say that I´m rather impressed with what I´ve seen from "Moon Child" so far.
Joanna Mueller writes: "Kickstarter campaigns are fickle beasts. Without the right guidance, terrible ideas can seem great, while perfectly good ideas can look catastrophic. Either option is unfortunate, but neither is as detrimental as campaigns that leave potential backers on the fence about pledging. Moon Child, unfortunately, falls into this bizarre limbo."
I want to like this more than I do, it's got some interesting stuff but just looks way too rough.
With plenty of content and even a strategy guide on offer if you need it, Moonchild will draw you into its lush realm and immerse you in its classic roleplaying feel.
Martin Watts writes: "Overall, Moon Child is a well-made game that suffers from one major flaw: its controls. The Elastimotion setup requires a lot of getting used to and not being able to switch to a traditional control setup really means you have to persevere with it. Graphically, the game features some great, high-resolution scenery and the level design is solid. Being able to work your way through the game, however, is incredibly challenging. The game is difficult enough as it is, and this would have been one of the most enticing aspects for hardcore retro gamers, but the awkward controls, unfortunately, make Moon Child an unnecessarily tough and frustrating trek for all players, regardless of skill."
Oh dear...Not to sound evil or anything, but I find it to be rather unlikely that the devs will reach their Kickstarter goal on time :S
I honestly thought that a game of Moon Child´s caliber would have made it on Kickstarter with no sweat. However, it seems like the game has been left out in the cold :S
@Littil_Devil "Wait, say what?! :S They had no marketing budget at all for Moon Child? Then it´s no wonder why they didn´t reach out to any people at all..."
Yes, that´s what they told me yesterday...And to be honest, I was quite surprised to hear that.
Gauging from this video, it looks like the devs are biting off far more than they can chew. It looks interesting, but it needs a TON of ironing out. Animations the most. Yes, I know it's in Pre-Alpha stage... but what I'm getting at is I don't think they have it in them to make it turn out good.
