The Handling Of Nintendo Switch's Date & Price Is Extremely Refreshing

It seems like gamers finally won't be subjected to a faucet leak's worth of details we usually see with games these days. Nintendo Switch will be fully revealed and then it'll launch. What a concept.

I agree. I also think it would have been much more refreshing if there hadn't been all the rumours and leaks, because now it still feels like the system was announced two years ago lol, even though it was only officially announced a few days ago.

Sono4213153d ago

Okay can we please stop calling this a home console... because it isn't! Just because a tablet has a fancy dock that makes it output to your TV doesn't make it a home console. We already know the dock adds no additional power and that on the go the best it can do is 720p.. so why should we believe it can do better when hooked up to the TV if the dock doesn't add any additional power?

Not to mention just hooking up a tablet to a TV is NOT a home console.. the more details we get the more the hype dies for me.

R00bot3153d ago

1. I called it a system, not a home console.
2. We don't know that the best it can do is 720p. There's a rumour that the screen is 720p, but when docked there's nothing stopping it from drawing more power from mains (no need to conserve battery) to bring the resolution up to 1080p. Hell, Smash Bros on the Wii U was 1080p 60fps with 8 players on the Wii U, which is less powerful than the Switch.
Stop spreading misinformation, Nintendo hasn't confirmed anything you've said.

Sono4213153d ago

i would reply to your other comment but I can't. I am not spreading misinformation. The people saying the screen is 720p are the same people who leaked everything else that was accurate back when it was still the code name nx, safe to say it's accurate especially considering it is multiple sources saying the same thing. Stay in dream land as long as you can bud.. it will be confirmed 720p in January.

It is also confirmed by *Nintendo* that the dock adds no processing power to the tablet... so ALL processing is done in the tablet even while docked.. so you're telling me they are able to make something stronger than the Wii U into the small size of a tablet? You're dreaming, or flat out delusional. If you're REALLY lucky it will be just as powerful or maybe just a little bit more powerful, but that is the absolute best case scenario. Yet here you are saying the Wii U is less powerful than the switch.. who's spreading misinformation now? That was never confirmed and more than likely never will be.. because like I said.. it's only processing power comes from the tablet CONFIRMED.

R00bot3153d ago

If the Switch is using the Tegra X1 then it's already more powerful than the Wii U. And we know that it's at least using the X1, possibly even the X2 from Nvidia's website.
There's no extra processing in the dock but every mobile device ever performs better on mains power, that's just a fact. If you've ever gamed on a laptop you would know that just being able to draw more power from the mains rather than from the battery is enough for better performance, and we can't rule out other possible handicaps for the portable mode to save power (for example it could limit performance to ensure that the fan doesn't need to be used whilst in portable mode, thus saving a ton of battery through having no moving parts).
I have no doubt that the screen will be 720p but it will be able to output higher resolutions than that to the TV, for sure.

It WAS revealed to exist by Nintendo almost 2 years ago in March 2015. Nobody asked them to, Nintendo did this themselves. It "feels" like 2 years ago to you because it pretty much nearly is, lol. All the rumours and leaks are, again, all Nintendo's own fault.

R00bot3152d ago

Didn't say they weren't.

freshslicepizza3154d ago

Sure, moving forward it is refreshing but we have been hearing about the 'NX' for what seems like 2 years now.

BattleAxe3154d ago

Correct, which means that this approach over the last 2 years really hasn't been all that refreshing lol

firelogic3154d ago (Edited 3154d ago )

It's been handled terribly. We've known about this thing for over a year. Nintendo themselves said it exists. Then they do a so-called "reveal" trailer with zero information. Then they say no info in 2016.

It would have been handled well if we didn't know a thing about it, then in January they drop a trailer, specs, price, games, and a release date for March.

PhoenixUp3154d ago

I don't like how Nintendo has handeled the release. Not only is it extremely unconventional, there's been a flood of leaks every day about the platform will or won't be.

All the while this is happening, Wii U has been getting shoved into the background. Nintendo has been less enthusiastic about their current console in recent months, which is a big deal since their the ones who really give it major support these days. In comparison at least when Sony abandoned Vita, the handheld still had plenty of third party support to fall back on.

bluebenjamin3154d ago

sony screwed Vita soon as PS4 came out, Luckily 3rd party support is present all thanks to sony's good grace right? I still play mine but usually im playing psp games on it which was a great system.Seems like vita is a JRPG machine with cell phone quality games now.The Wii U on the other hand seems to get 0 support from both Nintendo and 3rd party.Glad I didnt buy the wii u and I would have been fine without Vita as well.

freshslicepizza3154d ago

sony hasn't been exactly enthusiastic about the vita for quite some time either, its all about sales. microsoft abandoned the orginal xbox early as did nintendo and the gamecube and now here they are again with the wii u. the switch will likely be a bigger hit for them but a lot of that will be based on the pricing of it.

stuna13154d ago

^^^^This! like fiirelogic said, Nintendo would have been better off doing everything in January for a March release. For the exact reason you stated Phoenix, any solid selling potential or life in the WII U has been seriously compromised or hampered due to the announcement of the Switch. How much, who knows? But you can bet if their were many people planning on purchasing a WII U this holiday season a lot of them are more apt to just wait now to see what the Switch is about.

...extremely frustrating.

Marathon Development Update

Marathon was slated to launch on Sept. 23, 2025 across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, but Bungie will share the new release date in the fall.

Jin_Sakai23h ago

Probably best just cancel it. The game has flop written all over it.

-Foxtrot1d 2h ago

Yeah, you can delay it as much as you want but you ain’t gonna wash that stink off.

Killer2020UK1d 1h ago

It will lessen though and possibly make all the difference if it launches in a state that rectified a lot of the issues people had with it. A LOT of ifs of course.

RaidenBlack22h ago

If you really gotta play ... play the better extraction shooter this year : ARC Raiders

ZeekQuattro1d 2h ago

Delaying the inevitable. Bungie hoping the negative publicity will blow over. 🙄

darthv721d 1h ago

They can't cancel it until a themed controller has been released first... like concord.

ZeekQuattro22h ago

I anxiously wait for that and a Marathon Secret Level episode.

GamingManiac18h ago

$10 says it'll have the stolen artwork on it lolol

dveio1d 1h ago

If they were absolutely certain about the quality of Marathon, then they had not delayed it just now.

So they've basically just confirmed what everyone, well, a lot of people saw: Marathon is not ready yet, still no soul to be seen.

Tacoboto1d 1h ago

"Doubling down on the Marathon Universe"

They're doubling down on soul, thank goodness this feedback illuminated that for them...

RaidenBlack22h ago

and N4G was littered with comments like : Marathon looks really good, maybe you're a hater and the likes blah blah ... especially under articles which compared it with Arc Raiders ....
