380k worldwide is very bad for a supposedly big franchise sorry

Lol. These are just Xbox One retail numbers from 27th September to 1st October so it's quite impressive. FH2 sold even less than FH3 at launch and that was inclusive of 360 and Xbox One figures but the game has since surpassed the 1 million mark and is now around 2.3 mill retail copies sold(according to VGChartz) . The franchise is successful enough to keep MS investing in it. These FH3 numbers do not even include digital/windows 10 figures and I'm certain it did a lot more than this in its first week and will do even more after a month and into the holidays also Playground Games is already working on a new game. Say what you will but the Forza series has been profitable enough for MS to keep it going this long.

By the way congrats to MS, T10 and PG. Can't wait to see what they do next.

@The Infected

It doesn't matter what DC sold, the question at the end of the day is “was the game profitable enough to keep investing in the franchise”? What was the budget and what was the publishers expectation? people keep talking about FH&FM sales but yet MS keeps investing in the franchise. PG& T10 keep churning these amazing games out in a span of 2years. Infact PG is already working a new game.

Going by VG charts numbers FH3s first week sales on Xbox One is more than first week sales of FH2 (360 and Xbox One combined.)

Yep. That's them fanboys this gen. Brag about having the best racer in every GT and DC article but don't buy it

And to think some even dared to make a big fuss about Uncharted 4's milestone in its first week... " bu bu 40 million consoles sold, and onl sold over 1 milli in a week?" Compared to this, it is Laughable

coolbeans2829d ago (Edited 2829d ago )

"a supposedly big franchise"

You mean a spin-off series of a supposedly big franchise? This series has consistently hovered around 2 million+ mark (total) and this number outperforms Forza Horizon 2's (XOne and X360) first week sales by ~65k.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

maybelovehate2829d ago

It is around 23 million dollars in 1 week. And that only includes retail sales. It isn't COD numbers but very good.

It probably broke 450k with retail and digital. Still a major setback if you consider how good it was rated and how much of hype it had.

Been saying - Gears/Forza/Halo don't sell like they used to. I feel sorry for MS. Their main IPs aren't selling well, the new IPs are tanking...

pinkcrocodile752829d ago

I bought Forza Horizon 3 on Day One and its the bollocks!. I'm so glad the game met the hype MS layed on, it's great.

As for sales couldn't give 2 f#cks personally.

I know some people find them important and use them as some kind of penis measurement. Though I've no idea why.

For me it's down to, "Did I like the Game or not?" as for all the other opinions out there, I'm happy to wipe my arse on them.

subtenko2829d ago

Thats cause we're talkin about microsoft games vs sony games. Sony got bigger numbers and bigger support, that is a big factor. There is also a reason they have the numbers too. So we have to compare this with microsoft xbox stats. How does this do against other xbox racing games?

fonger082829d ago

@infected "didn't driveclub sell 1million in its first week?"

It did not

slasaru012829d ago

They don't count digital, which is huge for Forza

I personally think that they need to take a break from both the installments of horizon in the forza series and have those teams at least give a little more time to make a more substantial product similar to what Ubisoft is doing with Assassin's Creed, I just think them doing this bi-yearly thing maybe hurting the development.

The releases of a Forza or Horizon no longer even become something celebrated , it almost becomes a expected release to the point where consumers don't even feel compelled to purchase some of the versions if they know they could just wait a couple months to get the next one and I think that's not really helping Microsoft.

I seriously think they kind of need to slow down with by yearly releases they might think having two years in between a game is making it enough for people to forget but their sales are showing otherwise.

Same goes for Halo and Gears of War seriously let some people miss those intellectual properties and let those teams go back and create something much more substantial because I feel those games selling less has a lot to do with series fatigue.

Selling something like 300K is pathetic for a franchise like that, that's seriously not a good sign and I think that Microsoft needs to start taking drastic action or they're going to start losing a permanent chunk of that install base.

Look at Driveclub , that game moved a small number of millions and Sony still got rid of the team, they're not going to continue to support failures and if it's not working out they're not going to keep shoving money into something like that it's just going to hurt their image and I think of Microsoft needs to consider making those developments a bit longer or they risk doing the exact same thing.

Forza games usually sell between 2-4 million in their lifetime. So this is actually pretty good sales. This doesn't include any digital sales. This is also only for one week.

wonder what he would have said if DC sold 382k first week... but i think i know.
These sales just show that xbox in general isn't the hub for racers.. racing fans are on PS4 or PC.

Actually, you don't really have to pretend you think you know when you can go see reactions to its success back then.

This same site charting these physical retail numbers has at an estimated 357k units 1st week for Driveclub--dropped to 345k later on. This doesn't include digital (just like this doesn't here).

Here's the comment section for that: http://n4g.com/news/1609385...

That's strange. Driver Club sells million copies but went out of business. What went wrong? Fake numbers?

Ashby_JC2829d ago

Them sales didnt keep them open for business.

Gazondaily2829d ago

It was a mediocre game that's all

GTgamer2829d ago

DC didn't go out of business what are you talking about

christocolus2829d ago (Edited 2828d ago )

Exactly. There's more to a games profitability than just stating NPD figures. DC most likely had a huge budget and didn't meet Sonys sales expectations. Meanwhile the Forza Series is co-developed by PG and Turn10 and both studios share assets, tech and engines and are able to churn out these quality games a lot quicker than most racing dev studios out there. MS must be making some good cash to keep investing in the franchise. People said the original FH flopped but we got FH2, again same people said FH2 flopped but here we are with the amazing FH3... as long as it remains profitable for MS,I don't see the Forza series dying off anytime soon and so far it's been profitable infact Playground Games is already working on a new game and they are currently expanding their dev team.

The thing is that Horizon has legs.
Horizon 2 until last month were sell on 40 dollars and drive club 20

DC isn't mediocre @Septic

Concertoine2829d ago

Its because DC had a free version, right?

Bolts2829d ago

Thier sales didn't pay the bills.

_-EDMIX-_2829d ago

Agreed. Anybody that thinks 2 million units is good for a racing game to the magnitude of that has to be insane.

They can't continue on something like that considered series like the infamous series only move around two million units or so and they continue to exist but Sony is not marketing that series anywhere near as much as Microsoft is marketing Forza.

It's very likely that a series like Forza cost Microsoft way more money to produce then Sony to produce the infamous titles.

Driveclub sold Millions but clearly it did not sell enough to Warrant Sony continuing to pay this company many people need to also put into consideration that the game was delayed several times.

@GT- he is merely referring to the development team , I completely understand what he means.

I personally feel Forza series and Horizon need a little bit of a break so that way the team can regroup and create something much more substantial as opposed to these continuous half measures because they definitely run the risk of fatiguing the series so much that Microsoft may not have the choice but to let go one of those two teams and I don't think it's going to be Turn 10.
