It's gonna need the option to display at 1080 and 60fps, or 1080 w/ additional post processing to be viable option for most at this point. I'm gonna grab it, but probably won't buy a 4K TV until next yr.

kranker2741d ago

Agreed, not interested in 4K myself. 1080p60 for its games or I stick with the original PS4. I dont understand this obsession with resolution over framerate.

Good-Smurf2741d ago

I probably had said this in my head for countless times,1080p 60 fps is the one target that most devs should push not 4K.
4K should be only be allow when dev can guarantee their game with solid performance.
But still going max graphics with 1080p 60 fps is far more achievable than just to hit 4K and ok framerate
this is a beefed up console they're dealing with not some fast PC with $400+ Graphics card.

kraenk122741d ago

Sadly the CPU will be a limiting factor so most devs will go for a locked stable 30 and higher fidelity.

joab7772735d ago

Me either. My main reason is because it's getting older, no space anymore and my nephew is always taking it. So, I'll give him mine and when I grab a 4K, be good to go.

Upgrading PC next yr so not worried about Scorpio so much.

Nitrowolf22741d ago

Same, I'm hoping pro is mostly used to push for that 1080p with 60fps

ocelot072741d ago

Even though I have a 4K TV. I also rather have 1080p 4K myself. I hope devs give us options if they do insist on pretty graphics and high resolution.

Maxor2741d ago

I would take 60 FPS over upscaled 4K any day of the week. 60 FPS is the real deal. Upscaled 4K is a software gimmick.

Utalkin2me2741d ago

I just got in a big argument with user "Ju" over this in PM. He was trying to argue that PS4 games are going to run in compatibility mode and be exactly the same on Pro.

But anyways this is great news, for Pro owners all around.

Guyfamily9992741d ago (Edited 2739d ago )

Most old games will run in "compatibility mode" and look 100 percent exactly the same.

Edit: very sorry, most OLD games. 95% of games released before the Pro will run identically. However 95 % of games after will be improved.

uth112741d ago

They will run in compatibility mode unless they get a pro patch to support pro-specific hardware.

This was confirmed by Mark Cerny

morganfell2741d ago

"Most games will run in "compatibility mode" and look 100 percent exactly the same."

That isn't exactly correct. Almost all new games will take advantage of the PS4 Pro:

http://blog.us.playstation....

"Following PS4 Pro’s launch on November 10 in North America, virtually all new PS4 game releases moving forward will be able to take advantage of PS4 Pro capabilities on day one, or in some cases shortly after launch via a downloadable update."

"Virtually all" is the term employed. It seems most likely that all but smaller indy titles will make use of the Pro's extra capabilities.

Sevir2741d ago

Lol, again, what features is supported will be up to developers... Mass Effect Andromeda for example has an enhanced 1080p mode for Pro when connected to 1080p TVs... Tomb Raider has 3, 4K mode, 1080p 60, and an enhanced 1080p 30....

And asking for 60fps if the game engine simply wasn't designed with 60fps availability in mind won't happen.

None the less, Games that had a difficult time maintaining 30fps will now hit the target and maintain it, similarly, games that used dynamic resolutions to hit 60fps will likely get full 1080p and more stable 60fps and increased texture resolution.

And because these have to play on Base PS4, it means 1080p TV will get supported

ShadowKnight2741d ago

I agree with the fps option. It would be great to run games at 1080 60fps

Kreisen2741d ago

I agree, i would definitly consider buying it if there is a 60fps option. I already own a 4k tv and playing games @1080 having the tv upscale everything a bit is more then enough for me.

mad-dog2741d ago (Edited 2741d ago )

Most games will deliver an enhanced 1080P mode. More stable framerate, but most won't push to 60 fps (they can if they want ofcourse, but most people actually don't give a crap).
Expect more visual enhancements, more things on screen, better AA, better shadows, better effects, more detailed textures, etc.

solid_snake36562741d ago

Do you guys know if BF1 will get the ps4 pro update?

DigitalRaptor2740d ago

It's certainly the best upcoming lineup of exclusive games I'm looking at currently.

That is unless Nintendo Switch pulls out a stupendous first and second year lineup.

Muzikguy2741d ago

Horizon Zero Dawn at 4K!!? Now that should sell some systems!!

andrewsquall2741d ago

Yeah we all read the full article on Eurogamer Gamingbolt, jeez. Feel free to make 15 of your own articles over the next week out of this information from Mark Cerny.

Turned based Phantasy Star and Shinning Force remain at the top of my list of Sega IPs that need to return. At the very least I'd take a Shining Force collection that has 1,2,3, CD and the Game Gear entries.

FinalBoss3d ago

I was hesitant to put these two on. I've personally played more PSO than the RPG version. And shame on me, I don't remember much about Shining Force to talk about it properly.

That said, so many Sega licences deserve their place in this list.

jznrpg1d 12h ago

A new Phantasy Star in the numbered series would be amazing. Shining Force too. But I’d settle on some collections as that’s probably the best we will get

anast3d ago

I don't trust Sega to do a proper comeback. The games will be just remastered and/or monetized to death.

gold_drake2d ago

shining force.

but indont see that happening unfortunately.

Former Blizzard President Suggests Players Should Have Option to Tip Developers

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra recently suggested an interesting concept that has sparked a debate among gamers - the idea of being able to tip developers after completing a game.

LG_Fox_Brazil9d ago

If I had a 100% way to be sure that this money would go to a fund or a reserve dedicated only to the guys who develop the games, be them designers, artists, programmers and so on, I could think about it.

But we all know that this 'tip' would only end up in a publisher's CEO pocket to buy a new yacht, so, no, I ain't tipping anyone anytime soon on this industry

neutralgamer19929d ago

Exactly these companies were raising money for good causes and gamers were donation and come to find out they are keeping a good chunk of be pie

PapaBop8d ago

Yeah tip your developer, 5% proceeds go to developer, 95% to the publisher or whoever. Isn't tipping for staff not making minimum wage? How about they just pay their developers properly and like you know, give them fair bonuses? Too much to ask from Blizzard these days, Kotick saw to that and is now laughing all the way to the bank.

MrDead9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

It's the t**ts at the top looking at ways to cut devs wages and get the players to tip them like waiting staff, and I'll guarantee a percentage is skimmed and kept by Activision Blizzard. This is 100% for shareholder and CEO playouts.

Popsicle9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

I have to agree with this. On the surface tipping devs sounds like a great idea, but in the end it leads to pay cuts and subsidization of pay. Tips then become an expectation or the devs “can’t make a living.” Lastly, especially in the US, tip culture has gotten out of control, and it serves as an excuse not to properly pay employees. Sounds good but doesn’t end well.

drizzom8d ago

@ Popsicle

I think your right on the nose with how much tipping has become rampant. Instead of it being a relationship directly between the customer and the developer or employee, it now has a middle man ingrained in the system. DoorDash is one example. It ends up becoming a metric where the company can measure 'just how much more money you are willing to part with' before raising the price on the main product.

1Victor8d ago

Uh so they’re trying triple dip or more we buy the game that they’re already withholding/cutting content for dlc we was told that season pass would help the developers thrive we felt for it.
Now on top of all that plus their sales bonus they want tips enough is enough whatever happens to you create/built a good game get a bonus for sales milestones you care about your game and community we reward you with more sales not for doing 3/4 of a game then save the other 1/4 for dlc and passes after

raWfodog8d ago

The 'tip' is me buying your game in the first place.

S2Killinit8d ago

Very well said. If it was possible to send the money to either the developer or some organization for the betterment of gaming, sure. But we all know that will not be the case.

Rynxie8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

No, it would go to those on the top. They will still fire developers, have a bunch of microtransactions, raise prices of games and so on.

H99d ago

So they eventually don't pay their workers and depend on our tips to pay them like the case with waiters!

Deeeeznuuuts9d ago

That kind of practice is only normal in the states, as far as I know anyway, what a backwards system

H98d ago

No it's as well in a every country that wants to amercanize

bloop8d ago

Ireland is literally the first stop across the pond and we don't have a tipping culture. The only establishments here that would expect a tip are the tourist haunts that Americans visit. Other than that, you might tip in a restaurant as a sign of gratitude for great service and waiting staff would be paid a full wage anyway.

Rebel_Scum8d ago

Tipping is not customary iin most countries dude. Get a passport lol.

Jin_Sakai9d ago

Is this a joke? How about the big wigs giving up some of their pay for their hard working developers.

MrBaskerville9d ago

Maybe the CEO could earn his money based on tips.

mastershredder9d ago

good god. The devs are not baristas dude. Total 1% ideals. Fing Chadosaurus.
