Will NX Turn Things Around For Nintendo?

Nintendo's hasn't had a winner since the Wii.

PhoenixUp3143d ago

I don't think so. PS4 and XO are too established for NX to become a major competitor at this point.

wonderfulmonkeyman3143d ago

Doesn't matter how established the other two are: there are plenty of open-minded gamers out there willing to pick up an NX, if Nintendo hits the right notes.

FloydianAndroid3143d ago

I would love for Nintendo to make a glorious come back but it's not happening. They haven't learned from their mistakes and I don't think the powers that be even care to really compete. All they had to do was make a console that was competitive graphically and power wise and it would have been a home run. I'm a Microsoft guy and there Sony guys, but most gamers admit that nintendos first party games are amazing. All they had to do was make a powerful console with their great game library. They could do so many things that would work. Remake/reboot old franchises for example. Fact is they are trying to innovate again with out a finger on the pulse of what their fans want.

Many Nintendo fans are waking up from the nostalgiaic brainwashing...

saLes ?.. . lol

So, then, compared to your favorite artist, justin Bieber is The "winner"?

Because of his greater sales ?

PhoenixUp3143d ago

@ wonder

Yes it does matter. You going to tell me that PS2 heavily establishing itself in its year headstart didn't have any impact on gamers for the rest of the 6th gen?

@ bully

It's a lot more than just sales, but if you're so simple minded to think that's the case then continue to do so.

I'm talking about games available, upcoming games, hardware features, online network, etc. There's a lot that PS4 and XO have going for them that make it impossible for NX to be perceived as a legitimate threat to them.

BullyMangler3143d ago

Sony will keep looking up to, competing with, and imitating Nintendo .. .

wheres the threat in thattt .. .

khh (:

PhoenixUp3143d ago

Your statement makes no sense. Sony has consistently shown their business model is much more successful than Nintendo's

@ rico

I don't think you know this but exclusives don't always guarantee a lot of success. GameCube had way more exclusives than Xbox yet it still sold less in the end. Wii U has plenty of exclusives and it still isn't going to sell pass 20 million.

All this just proves that multiplats sell consoles just as much as exclusives do. If Nintendo's exclusives couldn't help them much then in terms of hardware sold, what makes you think that it'll be different now?

I think Nintendo needs to dodge the current PS4\Xone battle in order to succeed. If all those rumors prove true, they already did - neither Sony nor Microsoft have a viable handheld at the moment (no, don't say 'Vita,' you're about three years too late for that), and this one would scale up to 1080 on a TV.

The attachable controller idea would make the device simple enough for little kids and little kid games with a much better curated mobile game store than on iOS (which is in the worst state it's ever been), while still allowing for great core titles with a much better setup than their previous portables (ahem, Monster Hunter, Kid Icarus, etc.).

If they can put together an affordable subscription service for classic games or make the Virtual Console prices actually fair, they'd hit the nail on the head, grabbing adults who haven't played games in years along with the kiddos who would usually be on a phone or tablet. WiiU backwards compatibility exclusively on a TV would mean a huge group of gamers could finally play those games without the indignity of owning a WiiU, lol.

Hopefully, they're targeting a different type of market while keeping their core in mind. They don't have to beat Sony or Microsoft, they could easily co-exist with a banger of a system.

Great read, well said.

Agreed

_-EDMIX-_3143d ago

I mean, not if it's a handheld

PhoenixUp3143d ago (Edited 3142d ago )

@ Move & Edmix

Nintendo's own official site states that NX is their next home gaming system.

In this gaming industry they have to compete. There's no longer a blue ocean strategy they can take with consoles now.

ShadowKnight3143d ago

I hope so. Day one for me regardless because of its first party titles.

pandadams3143d ago

IF NX allows 3rd party developers = win win win!

Kosic3142d ago

It's all about cost on release. If low it'll do well if mid to high it'll have a slow start.

XXanderXX3143d ago (Edited 3143d ago )

Here's to hoping it does more than just turn Nintendo around & puts them back on top of the industry again where thy belong .( believe we have a Nintendo hater in the vincenty )

They kinda did in the Lego Clone Wars game. One of the stages or two was devoted to young Boba Fett, Bossk, Dengar and Aurra Sing. Shame they never did the other seasons in Lego form. I believe it only covered the first 3 and pilot turned movie.

Many of those who hate Dark Souls II hate it because it's not Dark Souls. The same people love Dark Souls III because it isn't Dark Souls II.

And so many of the issues at the centre of common complaints about DS2 are present in DS3 and sometimes even DS1. The hatred and bile spewed over this perfectly decent game is ludicrous.

CrimsonWing6917d ago

I don’t think it’s a terrible game, but like a movie sequel by a different director, for me, it does NOT capture any of the “magic” felt from the Miyazaki entries. Boss battles don’t feel epic, environments don’t have the same sense of awe, the enemy variety isn’t particularly interesting, the art direction just feels bland, about the only thing I can give it praise for is some of the music.

Now, again, this is only how I feel about it, so I’m not trying to invalidate his you feel about the game, but it is the worst entry in the series due to those factors and it’s the least re-visited entry, for me.

Is it decent as a game on its own? Sure. But in comparison to the Miyazaki entries, it does not stack up and I believe that’s where many were disappointed with it.

PrimeVinister17d ago

Completely fair. I cannot disagree either, mate.

MrWood17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

You can also play it in VR flawlessly on PC & controller with the LukeRoss mod so… another reason to jump back in with extra immersion.

jznrpg17d ago

It’s not a bad game it’s just not as good as the others

Shadow Man16d ago

The controls felt very clunky to me, I tried playing it after beating Darksouls 3 and it didn’t feel fluid, obviously the hit detection is less superior for been an older game.
