Nintendo’s Wii U may soon be permanently modifiable to allow users to play homebrew and pirated games, after researchers today released a solution to access the console’s encryption keys.

We are calling them as "researchers" now?

wonderfulmonkeyman3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Thieves, more like.
They're doing it in an effort to support piracy of games, not to support homebrew communities that want to make their own small games.
They can claim otherwise all they want, but anyone with half a brain knows the majority of those that take advantage of this, will be doing so to steal retail Wii U games that they should be paying for.

@ NU
So that means it's okay for me to pirate PS4 games since Sony burned me by asking me to pay for online multiplayer, right?
No.
Because that's a retarded excuse, and so is yours.
Just stop.
You can't justify piracy. I don't give a damn how cheap you are; you're in the wrong.

It's cool because a modded WiiU would allow me to enjoy games free. Nintendo burns the fans so the fans bite back

NotoriousWhiz3172d ago

@Shin, in order to borrow something, someone must give you permission to borrow it. Without permission, it is stealing, even if you eventually return it.

freshslicepizza3172d ago

@Shin-Zantetsuken
"What exactly did they steal??"

nothing...yet. the value in games is the experience so if you get to enjoy that experience like everyone else that paid for it then how are you contributing to the making of the games? you're not so there is no need to write a whole bunch of words to mask how you are unwilling to support the industry in making these games.

the whole idea that one must possess something physical does not apply so stop with the semantics.

bouzebbal3172d ago

i am against piracy of games, but modded console isn't always a bad thing. You can get more out of your hardware by installing some apps that weren't planned from manufacturer.
I for example would love a hack that increases gamepad range cause as it is i cannot take gamepad to any room.

rjason123172d ago

Pirates suck. Stop trying to justify your piracy, I betcha none of you cowards have the balls to walk into a store, grab a game, movie, or cd off the shelves and walk out without paying. No, you just sit at home and illegally download stuff. In some countries your hands would be cut off for stealing.

NohansenBoy3172d ago

Just because some people will use this for piracy doesn't mean everyone will. Witcher 3 and Shadow Warrior 2 are stepping forward to prove just how pointless DRM is if you make a good and solid product people want. I don't understand this corporate shill attitude that Nintendo and the other big two want you to have so you'll blindly support any victim statements they make that piracy is killing them when it becomes possible.

Also, my main platform, PC seems to be doing just fine after decades of easily available game cracks and DRM free games despite shills and corporations saying that no protection against piracy = the games flops due to lost sales. There's no way to prove a pirated game is a lost sale.

Everyone has their take on hombrew but I have it installed on my Wii u with all the games I have bought from day one & still to this day. I am using TCP Gecko to make codes for the games I have. So far I found inf health & nipo on NG3:RE, Inf growth & gems for Warriors Orochi 3 hyper & I am trying my luck with MH3U. The hombrew is epic on it & I can't wait until its fully unlocked to make it easy to do anything!

LOL_WUT3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

This is good news IMO ;)

Kurdishcurse3172d ago

idiotic and emotional comment. not to mention filled with baseless assumptions.

XisThatKid3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Anyway if this happens this is the only way I'll use my smash bros entertainment system other than playing smash 4 and occasional Brawl. I'm so look glad this guy never downloaded a song or movie before of his entire post would be invalid ;)

wiiu owners deserve compensation.

Now, a permanent solution such as custom firmware may now be possible, after hackers on the GBATemp.net

sdcard4gb3172d ago

Amplitude3172d ago

There's literally no games to pirate, though

im not even trolling there's like 8 games that matter and im sure we all already own them at this point.

Roaddhogg3172d ago

This is not fake at all. The 'vote for me' line was part of a running joke.

Good ol' piracy justification! If you're gonna pirate something and you can't be bothered supporting the people that make the games you want to play at least own it, instead of trying to justify that it's okay just because it's Nintendo you're stealing from. It makes you look very stupid, to say the least.

SilverClock3172d ago

Well it's not like there's many games to play on the Wii U anyway...*puts up shield*

BullyMangler3172d ago

and you wonder why you flunked 3rd grade .. . :)

Kurdishcurse3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

i also wonder why youre so insecure about opinions.

Kurdishcurse3172d ago

its funny cuz its true. if you take away their cringe inducing amount of sequels they make. they have basically nothing.

3172d ago
wonderfulmonkeyman3172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Know what you sound like?
"OMG Nintendo and their stupid sequels! I'm tired of their sequels! They never do anything different!
Oh! New Assassin's Creed game! Yay! Time to climb more towers to unlock the map! I've NEVER done that before!"

That's you.
That's how stupid your argument against Nintendo sequels sounds.

wonderfulmonkeyman3172d ago

You are so adorably narrow-minded...

bouzebbal3171d ago

that's ok he doesn't like nintendo games, but as a fan of the company i am happy with what wii u is providing. not a fan of gamepad though but the games are pure fun for the most part
