Wii U One Step Closer to Permanent CFW/Homebrew as Encryption Keys Cracked

Nintendo’s Wii U may soon be permanently modifiable to allow users to play homebrew and pirated games, after researchers today released a solution to access the console’s encryption keys.

They're doing it in an effort to support piracy of games, not to support homebrew communities that want to make their own small games.
They can claim otherwise all they want, but anyone with half a brain knows the majority of those that take advantage of this, will be doing so to steal retail Wii U games that they should be paying for.

i am against piracy of games, but modded console isn't always a bad thing. You can get more out of your hardware by installing some apps that weren't planned from manufacturer.
I for example would love a hack that increases gamepad range cause as it is i cannot take gamepad to any room.

Just because some people will use this for piracy doesn't mean everyone will. Witcher 3 and Shadow Warrior 2 are stepping forward to prove just how pointless DRM is if you make a good and solid product people want. I don't understand this corporate shill attitude that Nintendo and the other big two want you to have so you'll blindly support any victim statements they make that piracy is killing them when it becomes possible.

Also, my main platform, PC seems to be doing just fine after decades of easily available game cracks and DRM free games despite shills and corporations saying that no protection against piracy = the games flops due to lost sales. There's no way to prove a pirated game is a lost sale.

Everyone has their take on hombrew but I have it installed on my Wii u with all the games I have bought from day one & still to this day. I am using TCP Gecko to make codes for the games I have. So far I found inf health & nipo on NG3:RE, Inf growth & gems for Warriors Orochi 3 hyper & I am trying my luck with MH3U. The hombrew is epic on it & I can't wait until its fully unlocked to make it easy to do anything!

I Dunno bro.. That sounds like something a fanboy would say.. Own all current gen consoles then we can talk. I bought my Wii U in 2011 and its been everything except stellar... My first Nintendo system I ever bought and I've had buyers remorse ever since. What the tech demos showed and what we got were two different things... Even the so called better 3rd party support was nothing to write home about..

The console had like what three 3rd party releases since it released! Watch Dogs was supposed to be a Wii U exclusive then got the multiplat treatment due to weak sales... Just sad... I really wanted to like this system but at the moment as it stands I unplugged it and put it away.. No use having a console hooked up if I never play the darn thing.

I for one think it would be killer if the modders can turn it into a Kodi entertainment center. That would blow MY MIND!!!

First of all, this is awesome. I have my vWii mode modded and play GameCube in HD widescreen with a Wii U Pro controller. Can't wait for full kernal access!

Secondly, I own all games I play. I don't steal. And others have no justification for stealing. Support the developers people.

Thirdly, Wii U was a pretty dang good system given its commercial failure. There's a pretty decent library of exclusive games. It may have lacked in quantity but it certainly didn't lacking in quality. I purchased mine day one for $350 and don't regret it one bit.

Believe it or not but this is a good thing for the wii u. It will Boost sales for sure. The PSP is a prime example of a system surviving due to homebrew. Lots of people wii go out and buy one because of this. Millions of people of coarse not but thousands for sure.

After march 2017, homebrew all you want. Wii u doesn't die until then. There was just a major release and there will be another big one with zelda. Not dead yet.
