Opinion: The PS4 Pro Is Really Just A Midrange PC

At the end of the day, while the PS4 Pro is a meaningful upgrade over the PS4, we don’t expect it to perform much different from a midrange PC.

What's mid range now and 5 or 10 or 15 years ago is vastly different. Cutting off the top %10 of pcs would make it mid to high.

Xbox One and PS4 are like low range PC's. PS4 Pro isn't mid range, but more on the budget side of mid range.

From where I sit the ps4p will cost less and have more native 4k games in it than the scorpio will.
Before you remove my head from my body with comments of how I'm wrong....please understand that the ps4 has over double the games the xbo has. Even more so these games are closer to 4k as well. Ask yourself what's harder to do, making a 720p-900p game into a 4k native game...or a 1080p game into native 4k? NBA 2k17 will be native 4k on ps4 pro....while I do understand games like 2k aren't as demanding as a game like gta....its a full on possibility many games can do the same.
My thing is would that hurt the scorpio and the fanboys behind it as they rally about "true 4k"?

Lol. the 200 dollar budget cards that are 6tf by themselves are budget cards THIS YEAR. Scorpio is a 6tf APU meaning combined cpu and gpu terraflops... it is budget. they both are budget PCs. they include bluray drives, memory, hard drives, controllers etc for 400ish bucks it should surprise nobody they are budget level.... the good thing is hardware these days isn't like 10 or 20 years ago, budget gets you a lot... budget doesn't mean shitty.

Yes it was said then and now 3 years later and they updated it but it's still now a midrange pc. $400 is still a great price though but Sony won't stop people from wanting better performance on the PC with the Pro model

When ps4 came out 3 years back out was a budget pc, the pro is too Scorpio is too.... they are consoles. Look at bloodborne, driveclub, uncharted 4, etc. They are beautiful . Better than any game you'd find running on a $399 pc (including a controller and bluray drive and wireless no less) from 2013.

Hardware specs don't tell the whole story about performance especially if the PS4 Pro is an optimized gaming PC compared to a resource hungry Windows OS PC.

It's also an upgrade to ppl that do not want a gaming pc with a new ecosystem. There are two reasons for me not to buy a good SLI gtx 1080 ti setup in January:

1) with a new ecosystem (steam & gog) I'd have to buy games again + no exclusives

2) price - I'd rather invest the money

Have consoles EVER been as fast as high end PC's? NO!! I'm happy (and 40-50 MILLION others) with the Uncharted 4/Gears of War 4 quality graphics. Besides, 95% of the population only have a 1080P television anyway. The real power consoles have over PC's is their simplicity to use. Pop a disc and play away, done. Pop it into any of your friends and family identical consoles, done...works every time. Try that with a PC...I PC gamed for years and gladly gave up upgrading OS, RAM, GPU, CPU, displays, etc every 6 months for a single new game. It's great if you CAN do the upgrades, but lots of us can't. So we are wonderfully happy with the PS4 and the great quality of games we've played and WILL play for years. The PS4Pro will only improve things. Peace!

Who gives a fuck? Lol we arent comparing a ps4pro to a pc as a pc is not even part of this console generation. Compare a ps4pro at its price to a 400 dollar pc and then tell me they can achieve what sony 1st parties do with 4 hundud dollars! This is irrelevant when most console gamers will be more than fine with 1080p at high settings. Which even as a "sony pony" i can admit the vanilla ps4 and xb1 should have done from the start. Sony has been bringing the goods with their products for the people who love them. This observation isn't some deep insight or revelation since the specs have been available for long time. I only care about how Sony is using the tech and handling my exclusives and PSVR (which has been amazing all day today).

If it pulls the quality Sony is known for, then it will sit right along side my other systems in my game room. More to play!

The xb1 is as powerful as a 2008 PC but in reality, the modern day PC doesnt perform a gazillion times better.

There are lots of reasons why. Shoddy console ports forever turning up on PC, devs who create for the lowest common denominator, coding to the metal for consoles which create super efficient graphics, seriously optimised operating sysytems on consoles vs super bloated Windows on PC. The list goes on...

Uncharted 4 is a great example and so is Forza 3 which look incredible on console. Forza 3 on xb1 is almost no different than that of a 2 grand PC on ultra. PC's never have, and never will live up to their true potential and for this reason, consoles will continue to compete hard with PC's when it comes to graphics. Not to mention be forever cheaper.....much cheaper.
