I wonder how much gaming Patcher actually does

2pacalypsenow3183d ago

As much as anyone who works on Xbox or PlayStation (except for game developers), you think these guys are gamers? lol they are executives who want you to believe they love gaming so that you feel a connection with their brand.

BrandanT3183d ago

Is Pachter one to even talk of about an inferiority complex?

solideagle3183d ago

hahaha i dont know what is his beef with Microsoft lol

Eonjay3183d ago (Edited 3183d ago )

He is right though. Sony did so much damage to their brand and their community that now power is everything. its sad really but its nice to see that Sony didn't take the bait. After all Sony is the Market leader.

lunatic00013183d ago (Edited 3183d ago )

You do know that both Sony and ms are to blame for the power means everything...Sony was all about power early in the generation and now ms is saying they will have the most powerful console...don't go making Sony a saint because neither is...if I remember Sony community had a field day and laughed at xbox community for having the inferior console and now xbox owners are doing it...neither Sony or ms as well as both communities are saints and botj are to blame

Eonjay3183d ago

You misunderstand. The importance of any advantage is only as powerful as the leader deems it to be. Sony is no saint. They have already moved on.

rainslacker3183d ago

I think MS did a lot of that to themselves early this gen. Sony just capitalized and took advantage of the situation, which ironically, became their overall selling point for this gen, although it wasn't much of a stretch from their prior focus of gaming first. MS pretty much handed Sony their biggest marketing slogan for this gen, and made it readily apparent what it is Sony was wanting to be about in the first place.

_-EDMIX-_3181d ago

I wouldn't really say Sony damage their brand as much as they damage to their own brand.

When Sony release that video talking about PlayStation 4 steering poking fun at Xbox one I personally believe it's one of the videos that proves that competition is needed in gaming in order to keep everyone on an equal footing to what consumers desire and I believe that video helped Xbox One Gamers more than it ever did anything for PlayStation 4 gamers.

If you're a gamer and you love Xbox I'm pretty positive you also love having the ability to purchase your games however you feel like it in regards to distribution.

This is one of the Prime examples that shows that Microsoft is needed in the industry, Sony is needed in the industry Nintendo is needed in the industry it keeps everyone honest.

In regards to Microsoft's Brandon I believe they should have been going PC and Xbox a long time ago because I really don't believe that many people are purchasing Xbox simply because of Microsoft titles and I believe they would make far more money if they had from the start been releasing their titles day and date on PC as it's a massive install base for them to make money from. Like I said dozens of times there was no reason why Microsoft really needed to have titles only on Xbox when they actually have two platforms, they have something Sony does not have in the respect of two platforms that could show off their titles to high fidelity.

I like the direction that they're going right now as a company but I think they have a long ways to go to gain back long-term consumer trust people look at Sony right now in the respect of what they've known them to do for several Generations now in regards to new intellectual properties and always seeking new Talent.

I think in order for Microsoft to get on better footing long term I believe they need to purchase two or three companies and have those companies rotate new intellectual properties every single generation and only then will you see them be a real Force but they need to do that for multiple Generations before consumers fully trust that this is who Microsoft is , too many times with new intellectual properties they seem to have cold feet .

whatever happened to that game that was being done by the gears team when they were called Black Tusk? This is exactly why people feel that type of disdain and mistrust with Microsoft.

And before anybody bothers me with a reply regarding failed intellectual properties I only mean Microsoft to do this if the teams succeed, Sony has their own list of games that did not succeed but they clearly have another list of games that did like resistance, infamous , Uncharted , The Last of Us ,God of War the list goes on.

I don't think he has any beef with MS. He predicted the X1 to win this gen before the launch but that didn't happen.

CitizenFour3182d ago

he predicts alot of stuff that doesn't happen lol.

krembo183183d ago

i think the biggest Scorpio problem is the price set by PS4 pro, it can be more powerful but if it will be 499$ it will still loose (similar to Saturn 399$ vs Playstation 299$)
anyway as a Ps4 owner i still hope xbox one/scorpio will succeed, since competition is always good for the customers.

S2Killinit3183d ago

Yes if its too expensive scorpio will be a no go. But also timing, a whole year from now those specs wont seem so impressive since the Pro will have been in the market for a whole year.

vallencer3183d ago

Different times though. Back then people weren't into graphics as much as they are now. I think if a more powerful console is only 100 bucks more than the competition people would pay it. I'd pay for the Scorpio if it was 500. It's a fair price if it's really that much more powerful than a ps4 pro. Noone knows the price so it's all just assumptions.

UltraNova3183d ago

The scorpio around 30-40% more powerful than the Pro, on paper. The ps4 is 30-40% more powerful than the xb1. Which one did you get? Did on paper power difference had anything to do with your choice?

uth113183d ago

People were always into graphics, in fact more so then because you could actually clearly see the differences between two systems without a magnifying glass

vallencer3183d ago

@ultranova

Nope power had nothing to do with my purchase. Granted i understand I'm not everyone. I bought the xbox one because, well, I wanted it more than a PS4. Liked the controller more much like I did on the 360 vs ps3. To be fair the power isn't a big deal anyway I have a gaming pc that out performs both but I just enjoy consoles.

@uth11

I suppose you're right but when those consoles were out when I was a kid/teenager and I just wanted to play the games. I never cared. However if they cared that much about graphics than krembo and his original statement about how the saturn lost would be untrue. Really though if it doesn't have the games then the power doesn't even matter.

2pacalypsenow3183d ago

It was always been about graphics, hence why the PlayStation's biggest selling point was 3D graphics and CD quality sound back in 1995, Ps2 era was different because of how powerful the Ps2's game lineup and Hype was compared to Xbox's

Ju3182d ago (Edited 3182d ago )

Of course power has something to do with it. But the PS4 was actually cheaper at launch and was more powerful. MS didn't get their tools up and working to push the HW almost 6 months after release...all that gave the PS4 a huge head start. Now, the Scorpio will probably be more expensive (I cannot see how it won't) and the PS4 Pro will have a full year to optimize games for the platform while Scorpio will launch with what exactly? Completely different scenario. MS will market the shit out of it. Like they always do when they have nothing to show.

gtarhro73183d ago

Agreed. The price will determine if the Scorpio will be a day one for me or hold off on it till the price goes down, but I'm afraid that by that time a ps5 might be already teased. I wish I was rich.

GrubsterBeater3182d ago

It's always been about games, and always will be. MS needs to learn this. Make more studios and you WILL be more successful. (Unless they are crap studios, of course, but even then, it's more variety and games, which brings in the players.)

True, they have pretty different audiences..and some People just have both at home or a PS and a PC that emulates more or less everything from Nintendo.

Knightofelemia5d ago

Xbox hasn't been a competitor since the XB360. Last generation and this generation Sony has been running circles around Xbox. As for Sony vs Nintendo Sony runs circles yes but I don't really see Nintendo as competition. Nintendo does their own thing and it works.

Details are important. Console sales yes. Overall games Xbox seems to be doing fairly well in that department.

LoveSpuds4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

MS were doing so well that they had to start selling their games on their main competitors system which in turn results in around 30% of each sale going to Sony as the platform holder.

I do think tjat MS' fortunes will improve now that they are actually selling games rather than giving them away for pennies on the dollar.

Something that occurs to me is that the more success MS published games have elsewhere, the more stark it will become that selling games is much more profitable than renting them. If that becomes highly noticable, I wonder what the shareholders (who ultimately run the show) will make of a service which has stagnated for years?

crazyCoconuts4d ago

PlayStation doesn't compete with third party games, they compete on consoles. They profit from third party games. If you're not comparing consoles there's no point in comparing.

drivxr5d ago

Console wars are over.

Eventually, everyone else will catch up to this fact.

attilayavuzer4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I think it's all PS fans have left at this point. Console wars were always a competition for fourth place behind Nintendo, PC and mobile. If Xbox evaporates into a hybrid virtual platform, then PS will be perennially left in last place.

Christopher4d ago

Strange, I recall all those FCC documents and witness testimonies saying the exact opposite... Guess Microsoft doesn't know what it's talking about?

PanicMechanic4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Great analysis. Just joking.

Pretending like companies give a f about where they “rank” against each other is just super retarded. This isn’t the World Cup.

Tell me, how does “PC” compete against a brand like PlayStation? It just doesn’t make sense at all. What you just said, is complete and utter nonsense

BlaqMagiq14d ago

I don't think PS cares about being in this so-called "last place" you came up with when they're making profits hand over fist.

microsoft wanted to crush sony into dust and they had the money to do it, but with such weak leadership it was always going to fail

Reaper22_4d ago

Had the money? They still have the money but the industry has changed since xbox 360. Microsoft is the number one publisher in gaming. I'd hardly call that failing.

IRetrouk4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

The industry hasn't changed though, just ms, Microsoft was the no1 publisher for a month in december 2024, the actual no1 for fy2024 was tencent if game sales are all that's being counted.

Profchaos4d ago

Money doesn't mean you'll be successful large corporations have entered and failed before like Nec
