Space Odyssey is the No Man's Sky We All Wanted

Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents Space Odyssey is the educational game everyone's been waiting for. Inspired by Minecraft it'll be the space game we really wanted, at least that's the hope. Just like it was with No Man's Sky.

It's like people learn nothing about hype and lofty expectations from NMS. Every few days we get one of these articles saying how some space game in development is going to be the NMS we all wanted.

Until it releases and delivers it's not.

Elite dangerous is the nms I always wanted and I play it daily

Psychotica3124d ago

There is no life on the planets in Elite is there?

CrimzonRazor3124d ago

@Psychotica not yet but its in their plans

@CrimzonRazor

Heard that somewhere before...

"Big space game with planets" is the new "DayZ clone"

These have been popping left and right during the last year or so. Soon Steam will be filled with a wave of low-quality "Big space game with planets" copycats and people will realize that not even true MMO multiplayer makes these games interesting for more than a short while

I've had my fill of big sandboxy games in recent years, to be honest. I'm looking forward to a return to more tightly-designed and carefully-crafted games

NMS is the NMS i wanted and expected. I love it, 40 hours in and i'm still loving it.

I learned it last gen, some are just.... 'slower' learners.

I dunno where you guys got that notion that NMS would be more than what it is now. It's like you just decided to take all the community hype/speculation and take it as a hard fact, or interpret what the devs were saying in the craziest way possible. Take the multiplayer for example; it was clearly explained on the official site that it would not be true multiplayer

NMS is precisely the game I was led to believe it would be. Maybe because I'm a PC guy and I was already very familiar with what these sorts of procedural games always end up being?

Or maybe because I'm familiar enough with game dev PR to know that when Sean reluctantly answered "yyyyyyeeeeaaaaahhhhh... I mean.... you COULD maybe see other players but.......", I instantly knew that he was only trying to clumsily avoid the question, and that there really was no mp in the game. It was so obvious that it didn't even feel like a lie. Look, if the chances of finding another player are truly infinitely small, then of course they didn't bother with implementing MMO multiplayer which is THE SINGLE MOST COMPLEX AND COSTLY THING TO IMPLEMENT IN ANY GAME. They were only 12 and with a small budget. It wouldn't even have made sense for them to pull that off

I play on the PS4 and I am in the same boat as you. It is exactly what I thought it was going to be.

The main question people need to ask themselves is if there was suppose to be COOP, wouldn't they actually show game play of COOP or MP to try and sell the game? Of course they would, just like every other game that has COOP or MP. We were told countless of times this is an exploration game, where you feel alone even though other people are playing in the same universe as you.

There are some things that they said would be in the game like factions, ships have different stats and etc. but I bought the game for the space exploration going from galaxy to galaxy.

Dude. Great comment. I one hundred percent agree. I have asked so many posters to PM me and explain what exactly they were mislead about and not a single person has taken me up on it. I just want to know what information they got that I didn't get, because nms is exactly what I thought it would be too. Despite the graphical downgrade and slight changes to the ui and a few other mechanics. Most of which was aesthetic. So thanks again for being level headed.

iceman063123d ago

Exactly. I always imagined that it was kind of an intergalactic Don't Starve. With that, I actually enjoyed it and continue to. I play for an hour or two and have my fill. Then, I come back and play some more. I never assumed I would run into anybody because, as you stated, the odds of doing so would be close to zero. So, that wasn't a concern. It still isn't because there is really nothing co-op about the game. As for variation, it is there...but on a smaller level. Animals resemble each other but vary slightly. The more that I explore, the more variation I see. I haven't seen the giant dinosaur from E3. But, who's to say it isn't in the game? There are 18 quintillion planets. Even Hello Games doesn't know exactly what is there and what it will look like. I did find some creatures that look just like Ewoks. (which was hilarious)
In the end, I took a gamble on the game. It wasn't as great as I hoped. But, it also wasn't this criminally horrible game that many drone on about. I didn't see it selling like it did...until I realized that people has seriously superimposed their wants and dreams onto a game that wasn't meant for half of what they wanted. Did Hello Games hype the game? Sure, what dev doesn't. Were there some "lies"? Sure, once again par for the course. This isn't the first time that bullshots and ideal footage were used to sell a game. The game worked. It did what it was supposed to do (survival/exploration). It was just average to good at it.
IMO Destiny was a far worse "lie" because it was a complete game that was sold, in parts, as DLC and expansion content.

1 We should be seeing those amazing life forms which are very different from planet to planet (bolocks, any one seen a DINOSAUR ?? )
2 Inter galactic wars in-between different fractions so we could choose the side or stay out of it, your friendly allay would help you with you fights with pirates (another pile of shite)
3 Different classes of ships witch you can buy or still,l haven't nicked a thing in NMS
4 Amazing thing to happen when you rich an center of the universe ?????? like start the game again I'm blown away
5 about multiplayer we were told that only way to see how we look is to meet another player and ask him to take a pic of us guess what there is no player model in the game if you ask me

I was defending this game before release day when people been very negative about it.
Im not on slag of NMS wagon, just don't like to be lied to, I would love to see some news about future update which sorts some of this out as I love the game even when its broken.

Sorry for my broken english as it's not my first language

Learning about this game would have been better if they left their nms clickbait out, sad when so called journalist use these tactics.

I can see it now. You play 10 minutes and then boredom puts you into suspended animation. You are awoken by a very rude computer that isn't helpful but just in time for the next console generation.

I enjoy listening to this guy. Mind is crazy

Every so often the game just stops to smugly remind you about the heat death of the universe.
