That's unfortunate. The Dishonored series could've gone on to replace the hole the Theif series left after this upcoming second installment.

Guess they want to venture into other IPs then.

I get the impression this is just Harvey Smith getting itchy feet. He was happy to hand Deus Ex over to someone else. He will probably do that with Dishonored, too (hopefully without the 10 year gap)

That's fine, I'm sure we will have another dishonored game in say about 5-6 years. Bethesda would be silly to drop it. This guy would have moved on to something else by then.

Why even ask this now. 2 hasn't even released yet and if the major problems that dragged the first game through the mud are still present in 2 then there shouldn't be a 3rd. That said I really hope they can turn Dishonored around, it had such great potential but it flopped so hard.

What issues are you talking about exactly? The only issue the first game had was its length. Thankfully it had an excellent replay value and it seems Arkane has already addressed that issue by making the second game almost twice as long.

And the first game exceeded Bethesda's expectations so i don't know where you get 'flopped so hard' info from.

Floaty gameplay, terribly written and predictable story, art style ripped straight from Bioshock, the worst AI guards I have ever seen in all my 25 years of gaming (run around broad daylight in front of the guards and get stealth kills), the promise of being able to kill everyone or kill no one (and while the no kill option was in the game the first person I tried to kill that wasn't a guard, a random maid, it gave me a game over and told me I can't do that). Terrible game that got way to overrated by people who have never played a stealth game in their life. Like I said the first had a great concept and potential, it was a huge disappointment. The second one so far is looking like they are making an effort to fix the issues but I'm pretty skeptical for how badly the first one went.

"art style ripped straight from Bioshock"
Um, the art style might be similar to Bioshock but its not like Bioshock created that art style. I think it looks amazing but your perspective might differ from mine.

"Floaty gameplay"
I thought the gameplay was incredible and nothing floaty about it and the more you play it, the tighter the game mechanics become so maybe that was your gripe is that you didn't spend much time with the game. Some games like dishonored needs time to get used to its mechanics and master it or else it won't feel satisfying.

"the worst AI guards I have ever seen in all my 25 years of gaming, run around broad daylight in front of the guards and get stealth kills "
I have started on the hardest mode available and the AI was incredibly challenging at times especially later on where there are guards that stands on rooftops. I can't tell you the number of times i had to replay some missions because the guards from far away spotted me and running on broad daylight was not an option. Maybe they didn't act as well as you wanted because you played on lower difficulties.

"the promise of being able to kill everyone or kill no one (and while the no kill option was in the game the first person I tried to kill that wasn't a guard, a random maid, it gave me a game over and told me I can't do that)."

I am gonna be honest with ya on this one, i never tried to kill a maid in the game lol so i don't know about that one. I usually just kill the bad guys or no kill at all.

That's great news, sometimes COD-ing games is just not the right way to go.

TheEvilResident19973146d ago

It's only COD-ing a game if it's a every year thing dishonered 1 came out in 2012 the second one is coming in the end of 2016 how is that COD-ing?

Glad they didn't change the art style. This is looking good.. Why did they change the way the characters look anyway? The very first style was kind of ok, it was fine by Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse.. both in game sprite and the dialogue popups, why keep changing it? I am not as fussed on her newer look. She's looking kinda too dark or sunburnt now.
