Tom's Games: "There's no shortage of video game movies in Hollywood today. From "Doom" and "Hitman" to the more successful "Resident Evil" and "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" series, there have been plenty of high-profile adaptations of best-selling video games. Yet more often than not, video game movies turn out to be disasters, full of excessive special effects, bad acting and cheap scripts.
Think Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo in "Super Mario Bros." Think Scott Wolf and Marc Decascos in "Double Dragon." Think of every film Uwe Boll has made ("BloodRayne," "Alone in the Dark," "Far Cry"...dear lord, please make him stop).
And there's more coming, to be sure. Classic games like "Max Payne" and "The Prince of Persia" are currently being made for the silver screen, while everything from "Gears of War" to "Kane & Lynch: Dead Men" are in the works. Yet there's one project currently that has the potential to be a true blockbuster and achieve the kind of quality that both movie and video game fans have longed for: Halo."
Remember the days of four-player couch co-op? The Wealth of Geeks team certainly does. This list brings us back to the golden years of the original Xbox with the best four-player games that were available.
Have you ever looked at a modern first-person shooter and wondered "How did we get here?" Wealth of Geeks performs a deep dive into the genre, including some of the most influential games, from the very first FPS from the cross-genre experiences that changed the game entirely.
BLG writes, "There are many fantastic and iconic weapons in game history, but some are significantly more memorable than others. When we think of iconic game weapons, these are the top 20 that come to mind."
You forgot one and it's a doozy. The weapon is kindness in undertale. :) defeats countless enemies.
Maybe they realised that most video game movies just ruin the brand they are built on.
Imo there haven't been any good video game movies yet.
IMO Halo's story is bleh and I definitely wouldn't watch the movie unless it was on TV and there was ABSOLUTELY nothing else to watch.
You would think a huge franchise like Halo would have no problem being made into a film. Even if it was terrible, it still would rack in millions due to the Halo name, just look at H2. (Own a 360 btw)
game movies don't trasition well. Specially game that have so much of it's story told during gameplay. Sure a mgs movie might work (mgs4 anyone?) but something like cod4 half-life or halo require the simple nuances you can only find during the game. Visceral combat, radio chatter, and secrets, something that doesn't emulate well in cinema.
this story of in and out of preduction is quite normal for a big flick like this. It will happen, it just might take years. Look how long it took for Lord of the rings to hit production or Batman Begins. hollywood unfortunalty drags it heels when theres risk invoved which is one of the reasons they make so many duff sequels.
