but but but, what will the fanboys say? their typical "sony is blocking it" wont work.

SpaceRanger3172d ago

Sony has been open to cross play since the longest time. Here's an example to prove that, while the selective PR spin from MS continues.

-Foxtrot3172d ago

Yeah it was like that a lot last gen

I mean Portal 2 is another example...their closed platform made Gabe Newell come onto Sony's stage at E3 to show off Portal 2 despite what he had said in the past about the console.

xPhearR3dx3172d ago

Except that was 2 years ago. Things have changed. These companies can say all they want, but unless I see actions taken, it doesn't really mean anything. This was from 2 months ago, devs waiting on Sony.

http://arstechnica.com/gami...

Sony is so far ahead of its competition in sales that they have their head so far up their own asses they don't feel the need to take that extra step. Still no Mod support for Fallout 4 and still no cross platform play.

mhunterjr3172d ago

We know that Sony has been said to be in support of it for a long time.

We also know that when MS finally came on board, Sony has been hesitant to actually allow interaction with XBL. We know that Sony is the reason Rocket League doesn't have it.

slate913172d ago (Edited 3172d ago )

Stop closing your eyes and plugging your ears to the fact rocket league is waiting on Sony's OK.
MS was against it during the mattrick era but Phil has stated he is willing and ready to open the bridge.
MS was resistant and now Sony is too. I dont blame them. Why rush to get it done when you have a near 50 million player base?
Im just being patient that hopefully one day we will see it across the board with multi-plat titles.
Until then stop pointing fingers.

LexHazard793172d ago

What spin its a Microsoft game.

ILostMyMind3171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

@mhunterjr
You know nothing. Do not know what demands were made for the multiplayer possible. What would it take to play PS4 games "in Live", as Microsoft said.

Yetter3171d ago

So why can't I play RocketLeague on my XB1 against a PS4 player?

AAWELLS093171d ago

"While selective PR spin from Sony fanboys continues to put blame on everyone else but Sony"

freshslicepizza3171d ago

Not once has Sony EVER said anything about supporting competing consoles. Pure Chess is another game Nintendo gave the green light for cross play, Sony never responded then either.

Now Sony is dodging when it comes to Rocket League. I will be surprised if the regular Minecraft ever gets Sony's approval for cross play either.

Red_Renegade3171d ago

isn't dragon quest gonna be cross platform with nintendo? seems like there's only a problem when microsoft is included.

TheCommentator3171d ago

Selective PR spin from MS? 3rd party devs are saying it's Sony who is stonewalling their efforts to get cross console play going in their games, not MS.

You're the one spinning things now.

freshslicepizza3171d ago

Funny, when people post facts they disappear. I suggest everyone look up Rocket League and the game Pure Chess, then you will see how it is Sony who continues to dodge when asked. This has gone on for years, Sony is ok with it if it's the PC but not Xbox or Nintendo

nix3171d ago

Fine. I thought we'll fight in FPS games and kill each other but looks like we'll have to do this in Minecraft world. Lol.

This is really nothing until they allow cross play in bigger games like Overwatch, CoD, Titanfall 2, and etc... There's no risk in allowing Cross play in Minecract, but it may be a start

LexHazard793172d ago

Im drooling to get competitive matchmaking between Xbox and PS.

Having had both and played alot online. ..Xbox players will wreck shit on FPS.

Aenea3171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

@bakpain

"Xbox players will wreck shit on FPS."

That's because they don't have any other genre available! :p

See, I can make silly remarks too!

@game4funz

Sooooo, MS is the one that decides which games get cross play with PS4? So MS is the one keeping things back for other games too and not Sony?

game4funz3171d ago

Yes... Titan fall 2 could've been another title if Sony wanted it. It seems they don't.

Microsoft has control of the mine craft ip so of course that's a title that's doing it since MS is definitely open to cross play.

gamer78043171d ago

yah one day we'll get a cross platform game between sony ms and pc, something thats really huge, like a role playing game or mmorpg, oh wait, there was FFXI, but its impossible to do again! so weird! /s

Erik73573171d ago

guys...guys.....pc gamers wreck the shit out of all of you on FPS games.

arkard3172d ago

@Phear the mod support "issue" is growing old. The reason Fallout won't have mods is BETHESDA'S engine is made with Microsofts console/pc in mind. BETHESDA'S engine can not allow mod support as is on Sony console due to the way in interacts with the system. BETHESDA promised mod support knowing these limitations were in place. BETHESDA decided it was better to blame Sony than to fix its engine and deliver on a promise to its customers.

game4funz3171d ago

Nope. Bethesda wanted mod support on Playstation.

Aenea3171d ago

@game4funz

Bethesda wanted mod support on the PS4 using the same methods they use on Windows and the Xbox One. PS4 is not a Windows machine, they probably needed to change a lot of things to get it to work, instead they asked Sony to change a lot of things to get it to work. They then got a 'no' and blamed Sony...

AAWELLS093171d ago

Link stating this specifically? I didn't think you actually had proof of that.

sullynathan3171d ago

There is no proof for any of these claims

yeahokwhatever3171d ago

Playstation supported mods in 2007. In fact, they were the first system to allow mods if I remember correctly. Unreal Tournament 3.

arkard3171d ago

https://www.vg247.com/2016/... hows that for a link?

Sound files- Sony uses a proprietary format for this. BETHESDA'S mod engine does not work with it, they want Sony to fix.

MOD file size- The limits are to low compared to Xbox, this is the one issue mostly in Sony's court. But again BETHESDA knew about these limits and still promised mod support.

Textures- BETHESDA's mod engine uses PC textures which do not work with Sony's console. Again this is not anything new, BETHESDA knew about this before and still PROMISED mod support. They blame Sony on not creating a program that would re-format the textures. Maybe BETHESDA should stop being lazy and build THEIR mod engine to work for Sony's console.

But your right, there is no proof that this is mostly Bethesdas fault, no proof the over promised and failed to deliver.

Will cross platform play include every other platform that this game is on as well including 360, PS3, Vita, & Wii U?

Either way it sounds like PS4 can add XO to the long list of platforms it does cross platform play with.

game4funz3171d ago

More like Xbox can add Ps4 to its list.

Sony probably didn't want mine craft to be pulled from their console or.... They had no choice. As choosing not to allow it on their system would be to choose not to allow the game as released on consoles on their system.

Goldby3171d ago

.... youre joking right.

guess what, Minecraft is already out on Playstation, and if Ms pulled it from Playstation store because fo cross platform, Ms would be looking like a pretty evil company using extortion to get its way in the world, instead of lumps and piles of money

PhoenixUp3171d ago

PS4 already has a long list of platforms it can play with. Way larger than the one XO has.

Idk why you'd even think that Sony would be against the idea considering they've always championed cross platform play since it's very first implementation in 2002 on their very own console. You can't say the same thing about Microsoft.

Minecraft is already on PlayStation platforms. It'll be added to the long list of cross platform games on Sony's consoles.

darthv723171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

What long list of platforms are you thinking of? I only know of their own and the PC.

Seems pretty short to me.

What you typed there proves my point. Their "own" platforms and the PC. PC is what it is, it encompasses windows, mac, linux, whatever runs on a "personal computer" aka.... PC.

If they do add wiiu and xb1 then we could add two more platforms to that list but as of now its a short list.

PhoenixUp3171d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

You're kidding right?

- Helldivers allows PS3, PSV, & PS4 players to enjoy matches together.

-FFXIV & DCUO for example have cross platform play between PS3, PC, & PS4.

- Dreii has cross platform play across PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Wii U, PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android.

- When Dragon Quest X arrives on PS4 it will have cross platform play with Wii, 3DS, PC, & Wii U.

Like I said Sony has always been a supporter of cross platform play and there's no reason to believe they'd ever be against the idea, whereas Microsoft only recently changed their tune after many years of discouraging plenty of cross platform play on their consoles.

korgun3172d ago (Edited 3171d ago )

ON SECOND THOUGHTS, THAT DELETED PIC NEVER MEANT CROSS PLATFORM PLAY. They were just saying that game can be enjoyed on various platforms but people misunderstood so they had to delete and tweet with a new pic

Agheil3171d ago

I KNOW ! Lol people can't take a bit of time to read the article. The tweet doesn't even mention PlayStation. It mentions "competing devices". How did they get PlayStation?

Liqu1d3171d ago

Because the original tweet had a picture featuring a Dualshock 4, X1 controller, smartphone and tablet.

Agheil3171d ago

@liqu1d Ah, alright. I never got to see it just saw the text on the site. Thanks for letting me know. :)

ocelot073172d ago

Sounds good but only by the Minecraft server renting thing. I wonder if I will be able to chat to my friend who is on Xbox while am on my PS4 version?

TheUndertaker853172d ago

All depends on Sony who will likely not allow Xbox Live to be overlaid in the same fashion that is currently available.

Currently when you start Minecraft on an iOS or Android device you will be greeted by a Xbox Live sign in screen. If you have the Xbox app also installed it grants you the ability to message, see online status, and other features available in the Xbox app.

If you do not have the Xbox app installed it will suggest you do but it is not required. Without it you will be able to see your Xbox Live friends along with what they're currently doing. Invites can then be sent out, even to friends offline or on other devices outside of the Xbox ecosystem.

E3 2016: Minecraft Cross-Platform Play Announced

Hardcore Gamer: In the midst of Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference, the major publisher and console manufacturer announced that Mojang’s massive sandbox title Minecraft would have full cross-platform play. Starting today, Minecraft: Realms, thanks to what’s known as The Friendly Update, will allow Xbox Live, iOS, Android and PC players to all play together thanks to dedicated servers. These dedicated servers will also allow players to host their own worlds, potentially hindering the current server system.
