these things are always on sale and its been like that since a few months after launch but still lags behind ps4 in worldwide sales. i wouldnt be shocked to see xbox one on sale for 100 dollars during holiday season. i cant wait to see microsoft try to sell the xbox one scorpio for over 500 dollars when they cant even sell the xbox one now for basically a third of the original asking price. the xbox one has had 7 price drops and sales are still way behind the ps4

First of all, it's not a third of its original asking price, then it would be $168.
Second when it was that price ($499) it included the a $150 peripheral, so this first "price cut" you are talking about was not a price cut. It was $100 less without the peripheral, or still the same price with it.
Third their official price cuts were $50 off to $349, $50 off to $299, $20 off to clear out the old systems but still $299 for the slim, and now a further clearance sale for the old consoles but still $299 for the slim. So that is 3 official price drops ,(one to clear out the old systems) and one sale. I don't see where you get 7 price drops from.

Fourth, Sony is doing the same with their old version

My local Wal-Marts and Target have been clearing out stock for both X1 and PS4 at around $250 and below for whatever bundle they have in stock apparently. Special Editions included.

If you're trying to get a deal, I'd recommend looking around at the physical stores. Plus, Gamestop is never going to be the best deal in town.

Basically is not even close tho. It's 45% of the cost of the original sku with a Kinect and 57% of the cost of the console without the Kinect. So in reality it's not close to 33% of the price that Cindy is trying to spew out for no other reason but to troll

Honestly, you have to think that there are stockpiles of Xbox One bundles laying around that were never sold. So then the only option this holiday season for them is 199 bundles from last Christmas to combat the PS4 and the Pro.

Man why are guys so thirsty for bad news about Xbox. I just don't get it. Why wouldn't you want all platforms to succeed and be healthy. They don't care how cheap they sell the old systems for because they just want more people in their ecosystem. Yes sony is doing good with PS4 but that doesn't mean the Xbox has been doing bad. Why do you want that to be so? Competition is the reason these companies are fighting for wallets and the reason they've all made changes that benefit us the gamer (...except Nintendo we will see if they learn a lesson about online infrastructure with NX).

nobody is saying they are doing badly... but if not for unbundling kinect, utterly changing their original message and dropping the price every chance they get imagine how far they would be behind THEN? The thing it's done all that and it is still behind in all markets, just now with all these closeout sales and new Skus is it even selling on top in its home turf.... it's been the cheaper machine for literally years now and usually is still outsold... that's what people are saying. see when Wii was cheaper and outsold everything else one could look at that and say OK it's price and probably a good chunk of target audience being casual or young players and at a low price point very accessible...

when the xbox one and ps4 came out the value proposition of that kinect did MS no favors, and thought by your estimation it may have been more for the money and so technically a lower price point... ps4 outsold it so you cant say it was a different target audience or that it was price especially when they unbundled the kinect and the xbox became totally cheaper not just in total package value for the dollar.

now the xbox is cheaper for a reason... it's the weaker machine with fewer games and usually a slightly inferior version of multiplatform games... so if it does sell its not a value proposition helping it out, it's the low low price and Ms&retailers flushing out the old Skus which for MS if nothing else increases their installed base which is not a bad thing for existing xbox owners...

I suppose the real demonstration will be to see if by this time next year the worldwide sales gap has stopped growing or shrunk at all... it's not going to overtake playstation but with the very cheap cost up front and the barrage (couldn't watch YouTube without 2/3 of the adds beit xbox one) of advertising they've paid for, it may level it out in the US, and at least keep a good bit or market share in North America. .. which might help win it some at least timed exclusives ported from PC or who knows.. . it's too little too late but the xbox isn't dead either, it's not a Sega Saturn or the Wii u.

Yes. Competition drives each other in the race. Without it, there wouldn't be much incentive to strive for better. I'd still like to see Nintendo do better and become more relevant in the home console once again.

MS needs to clear out this old system stock to encourage retailers to purchase X1S shipments for the holidays. We're close enough now that they will be placing their orders, and with PS4P looming, and the Slim recently released, retailers aren't just going to order bucket loads of X1S systems if they have the old systems still laying around.

Some stores may be doing this sale on their own in anticipation for the holidays, but I'd imagine quite a few of them are getting rebates from MS because the older systems aren't going to be as desireable in light of the X1S being available with more features for not much more.

At the same time, retailers may be hesitant to stock a new product from MS right now if they've been holding onto X1 stock for a while now....although it's just speculation that it's been sitting on these stores shelves or warehouses for copious amounts of time.

Holidays though mean needing to make space for the stuff which is going to be easier to sell.

I bought an xbox1 two months ago from Walmart. It came with two contollers,gears ultimate,rise of the tomb raider and rare replay for 340$ not bad, but it's collecting dust.

Bought it to play uncharted as I never played uncharted on my PS3 before it, struggled through the first one so far, I can see what you mean about it being tough, want the last of us remastered and infamous SS as i liked those games on the PS3, and ratchet and clank are my favourite Sony franchise, gonna get that one too, just too many games have gotten in the way and too much destiny. I recall way back when, the Turbo Duo released and it came with 5 games. Good games too. Cost $400, which was a lot way back when(equivalent to about $30,000 when you're a teen working a job which doesn't pay much two days a week.....adjusted for inflation), and I found it to be the best purchase I ever made. I still have that duo to this day in fact.:)

Granted....there were more games on the Turbo Duo I wanted to play back then, than MS has now on the X1, although if I didn't have a PS4, there would be more games I suppose I could play on the X1 and make it worthwhile at $250 with quite a few games.

Anyhow, point is, it's a good deal if you're looking for a bargain. Never complain about customers being able to get more for less....despite the connotations it has for the console war in forums.

That's the issue here. The perceived value of the Xbox One is so low that people aren't willing to pay full price. There's always a huge sale or free game promotion around the corner.

Places like gamestop, eb games etc have deals for all consoles as even here in NZ you see ps4 deals going which includes some games alongside xbox deals so why is there an article about them everytime somewhere does this ......... edit good to see people disagree with a fact yet again

Here in the US, such deals are nowhere near as common. At least not on the price cut side. Only time you really see those is when the manufacturer offers rebates to the retailers to help move stock, with the hope they'll order more. There just isn't the same room to move price wise on the retailer end like they have in some other countries.

Bundles are much more likely, as the games get rebates from the publisher faster, and you can mark up the system price when you sell it with games as well, because it still looks like a deal.

It's been quite surprising to see how many of these bundle deals, and outright price reductions(sponsored or otherwise) that the X1 has had this gen. It's not very common to have so many in the first 2-3 years....outside the one or two official price drops which come in.

Only way to counter the onslaught of upcoming PS4 PRO and PSVR. Xbox one is on sale so much with free gifts that it's the only choice they have as there isn't any counter product this year to complete against Sony. Expect tons of marketing and downplay from the executives. Can't wait to see the first commercial targeting Xbox one as the only UL bluray player gaming system along with best games in history narrative.
